I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Soldier’s laments, heart-songs, and patriotic tunes have been an essential part of the American sound-scape for many generations. Most of these compositions, however, have been identified with the Vietnam War or with World War II. This newly minted collection presents performances captured between 1924 and 1939 of songs originating from the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and the war to end all wars, the First World War. These recordings were the folk foundation both of the common soldier’s perspective of the battlefield and of the family and loved ones that were left behind.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:24pm Stepchild:

11x17 or even bigger, but you'll probably have to fold them for mailing I guess... wonder if I could pledge *extra* for a rolled mailer, or better: volunteer during mailing time and get a flat one then??
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 12:25pm Dave in Vermont:

haven't tuned in live here in a while; I was being lulled by the Becky on Michael Shelley's when I checked my email and lo I was reminded I should be here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 12:29pm Dave B:

Will you be posting the give away winners here in the chat? I'm off line for a spell...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:30pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: Hah, I did initially think it was equipment weirdness!
  Sat. 3/10/18 12:30pm rw:

Sorry, I'm kind of a dork and wasn't paying close attention. Western music was censored in Japan in the '40s so Japanese artists covered popular songs from the West?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:32pm fred:

@Dave in Vermont: The art is not the cover, it's the premium! You get the poster and a download link for the music
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 12:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Thank you for the explanation, Second Co-Host Fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:33pm Stepchild:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 12:34pm Dave in Vermont:

is the broadcast coming from hq?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 12:35pm Dave in Vermont:

@fred thanks for the clarification- I kinda wish I knew that before I decided on my premiums
  Sat. 3/10/18 12:36pm rw:

Since we're requesting the unreasonable I'd like my poster signed by the artist please!

@Dave in Vermont: you'll get a second chance come October
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 12:40pm Dave in Vermont:

it was cool, Michael Shelley's daughter just went on before i flipped over with a piece of paper that had all the budget items:48,000 for the mortgage something like 157,000 for transmitter rental, 20,000 for electricity, 50,000 for computer, etc etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:48pm doctorjazz:

I am using the app in the car, so I didn't see the poster. Just parked and was curious, so I checked it out. Man, that is a beautiful poster !
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:48pm Mayuko:

@rw yes, jazz and anything from the west were considered to be "enemy"'s music and banned during the war time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:49pm Scraps:

Any CDs giving away?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:51pm Stepchild:

@doctorjazz Right!?!! Don't want to gush and embarrass, but Mayuko does beautiful work. I am lucky to have a small book of like 8 pages. This deserves to be BIG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 12:52pm listener james from westwood:

Riffing off the censorship theme of your poster. Where I work, University of Maryland libraries, we have this thing called the Prange collection. Gordon Prange was an aid to General MacArthur during the occupation years. He ran a review (censorship) office. All publishers in Japan had to submit one copy of everything to him. Many institutions in Japan at that time chose not to retain periodicals (magazines, newspapers etc). Prange's collection, now digitized, ended being the only complete collection for many publications in those years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 1:07pm Mayuko:

@fred thanks! hope you have a great time there!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 1:34pm Andrew Waterloo:

I framed Mayuko's poster from last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 1:35pm listener james from westwood:

Last year's poster size was ideal. Don't make yourself wild by printing it in numerous sizes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 1:36pm Stepchild:

I'm gonna say 17" x 22" would be AMAZING
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 1:37pm Jesse Kaminsky:

What if I want the image without the poster, can you just send me the ink?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 1:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 1:47pm listener james from westwood:

Caretaker!
Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 1:48pm Tamar:

Five more poster-sized pledges ($75) would put Mayuko so close to her goal that we would count it as a cigar.
Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/10/18 1:49pm Tamar:

And the poster size itself is flexible :)
  Sat. 3/10/18 1:49pm melinda:

I love the caretaker!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/10/18 1:51pm Doug Schulkind:
