Heyo, Sir Scraps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 9:04am listener james from westwood:

Good morning, Jeff, Scraps, and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:06am Jeff Golick:

How do, @listener james!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 9:09am listener james from westwood:

You can't spell Braxton without "tax," which is what I'm putting together right now. Fortunately he and his bandmates are sanding down the edges of the task.
Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:09am Listener Robert:

Actually every date in March is a sentence. Should marching be the 30th thing I do? "No. March 31st!"

You could even make some of them 3-word sentences. How many men should I send there; all 50 at once? "March 20 first."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:09am Jeff Golick:

Ah, you have my sympathies, @ljfw. May it all turn out in your favor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:12am Jeff Golick:

@Listener Robert! I march corrected. Welcome!
  Sun. 3/4/18 9:15am Doug Schulkind:

Greets, Mr Golick and all Outbounders!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:17am Jeff Golick:

In struts @Doug! Hey there! Stackin' this morning?
  Sun. 3/4/18 9:31am Doug Schulkind:

Stacking’, never slacking’!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:36am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff.
On your marks, get set........
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 9:39am listener james from westwood:

Zero idea if I'll get anything back, but it's for damn sure my WFMU donations from last year will raise a middle finger to ill-spent revenues this year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:43am Jeff Golick:

Oh, yeah, @Brian in UK. It's just about that time. Nice to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 9:54am doctorjazz:

Morning all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 9:55am Jeff Golick:

What's up, @doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 9:59am Ken From Hyde Park:

It's 3/4, the one day of the year that's an imperative sentence: "March forth!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:05am Uncle Michael:

Good morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:07am Jeff Golick:

Hellos, @Ken from Hyde Park and @Uncle Michael from Topeka!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:09am Uncle Michael:

I'm a couple hours west of Topeka this weekend. 7:09 here in the desert.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:10am Jeff Golick:

Oh nice. Up early! Which day are you coming East?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:13am Uncle Michael:

The 13th. Early? This is sleeping in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:16am doctorjazz:

FULCRUM Ensemble track was very cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:18am doctorjazz:

Good vibes on this set so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:19am Polyus:

Jeff! The Sonic Universe Project performance last night in Mpls was really really good. One continuous improvised piece that felt short but actually ran about 1hr 20 mins or so. Everyone did a really nice job of allowing everyone else space to work in, and then of course there were times when everyone cut loose at once. The stage looked great too - a huge mess of instruments and a number of tapestries and masks hanging at the back of the stage. Douglas Ewart even recited a couple lengthy poems at various points.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:20am Jeff Golick:

Here's that Fulcrum Ensemble album: timdaisyrelayrecords.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:20am Jeff Golick:

Oh man, @Polyus, that sounds amazing! I wonder if it was recorded.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:28am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @glenn! I think that was actually a bass clarinet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:29am Jeff Golick:

Seems about right, @Polyus. Thanks for those links.
Avatar Sun. 3/4/18 10:30am glenn:

okay, maybe, but what sense does clarinetdon't make? huh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:30am doctorjazz:

Another great instrument combo on this Tri-Factor Trio track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:30am Polyus:

As far as a recording, we can only hope. There was a similar performance at the Walker in 2008, featuring Yusef Lateef (which I missed,) that was released on CD. So who knows?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:31am Jeff Golick:

It's a fair question, @glenn.
Avatar Sun. 3/4/18 10:31am glenn:

firm but fair.
Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:35am Listener Robert:

Wow, the station bar graph to goal went up another 1% with no pitching! Must be the economy, as I said last year, when it got near 20% in 2 days. Me, I'm waiting to get another couple PineCone Research studies to earn my pledgeable $.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:44am sberger:

Morning from the West Coast. My 2 favorite FMU shows begin (this) and end(Avant Ghetto) Sunday's, and both are manned by Jeff's(not that would be a good Drive coupling!). I give gladly to both for the listening pleasure and education.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:45am sberger:

Meant to say "Now that would be a good coupling"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:47am doctorjazz:

It's the didgeridoo apocalypse
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:48am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @sberger! Man, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:48am Jeff Golick:

@Listener Robert: I wonder if that's in part due to the increased push for monthly Swag for Life pledgers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:53am doctorjazz:

Nice change up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:54am doctorjazz:

Dolphy
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:55am Jeff Golick:

Seems like only one channel on this Dolphy :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 10:56am doctorjazz:

(oddly recorded, sounds on this end like he's only in the left channel.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 10:57am Jeff Golick:

It's from the 1960 Five Spot date with Booker Little.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:00am listener james from westwood:

@Jeff: Hoping that also means folks are sending checks in pre-Marathon! I'm glad DJs have been mentioning that Swag for Lifers got an email recently re: their ongoing pledge, along w' a link through which to re-allot the shows they want to support, b/c I just completely spaced on the email.
The real test will be how much flex Clay can exert. If everyone who he name-checks at roll call were to do a Mouse pledge, we'd be in great shape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:01am doctorjazz:

Hmmm, have that on vinyl,, have to check it out later and see if it is that way on the lp
But it would make sense, if he was on that side for the set. But I'd think the engineer would correct it in the mix later..
Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:09am Listener Robert:

I doubt Swag For Life pledges would've sent the widget up by $15,000 during this time. However, it could be as James wrote, that a pile of envelopes had accumulated, and that this morning the first shift of volunteers has been opening them and passing the checks to the one with the adding machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:11am Jeff Golick:

Y'all are on your marathon game.
  Sun. 3/4/18 11:17am Dean:

Can I be any more goddamn stupid? Last week UM announced we'd next here from him from "Marathon," and I'm thinking, "Wow, he's traveling to Greece." Today he reports he's in my time zone. "Is there a Marathon in the US?," I speculate.
  Sun. 3/4/18 11:17am Dean:

*hear from him

I've had plenty of coffee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:19am Jeff Golick:

Take it easy, my brother @Dean!
Avatar Sun. 3/4/18 11:20am glenn:

there's a marathon in northern ontario.
Avatar Sun. 3/4/18 11:21am glenn:

there's also an upsala, for that matter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:22am listener james from westwood:

Their Upsala outlasted East Orange's!
Avatar Sun. 3/4/18 11:23am glenn:

which is the source of that great joke -what's black and yellow and has forty finns?

an upsala school bus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:29am Uncle Michael:

Dean, I'm in Palm Springs, but Kris Holmes used to live in Marathon, TX.
  Sun. 3/4/18 11:30am Dean:

Palm Springs, Greece?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:31am Uncle Michael:

So, a couple weeks back, Michael Shelley played a Luis Bonfa track, and I've been on a Bonfa binge ever since. I have my own little Bossa Nova sets planned for after the marathon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:31am Uncle Michael:

Not far from there, galactically-speaking, Dean.
  Sun. 3/4/18 11:33am Dean:

Heh, speaking of Sinatra and Palm Springs, I'm planning a baked cellentani with Frank's recipe for meatballs this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:34am Uncle Michael:

I'd like to see that recipe...and any evidence Frank ever got up to his wrists in ground pork.
  Sun. 3/4/18 11:36am Dean:

https://themccallumsshamrockpatch.com/2014/04/17/frank-sinatras-italian-tomato-sauce-and-meatballs/ (see excerpt from cookbook). I figure if I can make it here, I'll make it anywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:38am Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Dean.

Here, the streets all have names: "Frank Sinatra," "Bob Hope," "Dinah Shore," "Ginger Rogers," etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:40am doctorjazz:

I'm in love with the modern world meself .
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:42am doctorjazz:

Heading to a Manhattan family brunch, thanks Jeff, great show.
Great Marathon all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:44am Jeff Golick:

Bye, @doctorjazz! Thanks as ever for being here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:44am Uncle Michael:

I'm heading to a family brunch as well. Thanks for the hangover cure, Jeff. Find me in the Global Grease comments, tomorrow evening!

Jeff, this Boston set needs some Buffalo Tom. They played L.A. last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:45am Uncle Michael:

See all y'all later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:45am sberger:

Real Kids would work too...huge lot of archive stuff about to hit the shelves shortly via Crypt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:46am Jeff Golick:

Bye, @UM! Looking forward to seeing you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:47am Jeff Golick:

You all know Boston better'n me.
  Sun. 3/4/18 11:48am Dean:

More than a feeling?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:50am Jeff Golick:

Is that a request, @Dean?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 11:52am listener james from westwood:

Thanks in advance of the last little bit! Calming tax-doing music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 11:53am Jeff Golick:

My pleasure, @lfjw. You at the station this week?
  Sun. 3/4/18 12:03pm Dean:

Not a request, an uninspired comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 3/4/18 12:05pm listener james from westwood:

Monday and Friday this, Thursday next!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 12:06pm Jeff Golick:

That's great, @ljfw! Outstanding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 3/4/18 12:07pm Jeff Golick:
