Schoolmates asked me what that word meant, and tried to get me to ask the teacher. From their tone of voice and snickering, I knew that was a bad idea.
So I waited until I got home and asked my mom. She, to her credit, calmly and accurately defined it, then asked me where I'd heard it. In all she handled it quite well, better than if she'd heard me using it. (By this point she'd already played the very explicit "Hair" original cast soundtrack and answered my questions about that show's language, so I guess it wasn't too much of a stretch.)

people act like "cunt" is the worst word, but it's just a word. i think it's because of the actual sound of it - starting with "K", ending with "T", it's a harsh sound.

This video came out in 1999, I see. Interesting re: support groups, b/c that's the same year the movie of the novel "Fight Club" came out, in which support groups featured as a catalyst for the eventual development of said clubs in the film.

Rickwaukee:

Back in olden times, people greeted each other with "How do you do?" and it was NEVER meant to be answered with anything other than "How do you do?" right back. I think you can get away with not saying anything in reply to "How are you" - or just answer "hello" - falls under "it's just an expression" - although I always like replying, "not so good" or "I've been better" and then wait for the awkward silence

Some people find "light therapy" helpful for winter blues-pretty simple, inexpensive (less expensive than therapy), no side effects (like medication), probably pairs very well with aggressive music.

@Rickwaukee: We have the same thing in france ("ça va?" should be answered by "et toi?", answer optional). I've had fun answering "no" ("ça va?" translates to "are you fine?") with a smile. Nobody notices because nobody cares about the answer. Does that make it a rhetorical question?
  1:21pm
Rickwaukee:

Weather/winter really can do a number on you. I don't mind a couple days of sun, but I've come to the point where I prefer clouds and gray - because extended sunshine doesn't jibe with my insides and seems to be mocking me.

@Yvang yeah, I think you're right, in any place there's certain expectation among people which I believed I had met but apparently not, haha. They were all nice and their stories were very moving though, I have so much respect towards all of those people. It was a good experience.

In the midst of depression some goofy silly thing in a TV show or movie, usually something I've previously seen/heard, will make me laugh and remind me of the light - I always think I should make note of them and administer them to myself when needed, but I never do - it is fun to stumble across them - perhaps greater relief that way ??

I suspect the intention at the group wasn't to be unsupportive (though, since I wasn't there and don't know them, I'm just guessing). I'd guess it was more what happens sometimes at a concert or other performance, when the audience is so struck and moved and/or stunned that there is just silence at the end. If it's too raw, sometimes people just don't know how to deal with it (but, it could just be that the group sucked). Well, hoping you feel good, Mayuko, certainly love hearing your musings and feelings on the Stream!

hey, listener james - i had meniere's syndrome to a debilitating degree. was told nobody had a clue what caused it, it'd gradually get worse, i'd gradually lose my hearing. so i did some research and started controlling my blood sugar, using blackstrap molasses, chromium, copper, manganese; getting weekly chiropractic adjustments; getting more exercise and stretching every day. it got to a steady slight dizziness i could live with, though not happily. then i had one acupuncture treatment and within a day i had no symptoms. for about 10 years now i get some minor symptoms for a few weeks every year, usually in july. that's it. maybe this can help.
