Good morning.

Does anyone know if the stream issues Bill Mac had were solved?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:06am Uncle Michael:

46, melty, muddy and slightly foggy here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:07am Jeff Golick:

@Stanley! It also me.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:08am Andrew Waterloo:

good morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:09am Jeff Golick:

Guests...my kids have had guests sleep over the past two nights and that's about the worst thing that can happen to our weekends, in my view.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:09am Stanley:

@fred: Jeff Moore might know, if he's around. and, of course Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:09am Jeff Golick:

What is up, @Andrew Waterloo!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:12am Stanley:

What a bummer for Bill, yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:12am Jeff Golick:

Ah, @Brian. Welcome and thanks for the link. That looks like it was...not fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:13am Jeff Golick:

I guess now would be a good time to ask if you are hearing solo piano?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:14am Stanley:

Happy to say I am and it's a lovely piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:16am Jeff Golick:

Phewf.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:20am Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 9:57am doctorjazz:

Live CT bootleg, cool!
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:03am Doug Schulkind:

I like this (love this) considerably more than Keith Jarrett’s Koln Concert recording. Just thought I should let you know where I stand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:04am Jeff Golick:

Ayo, @Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:05am Jeff Golick:

Y'know, I'm not sure I've ever heard the Jarrett concert...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:06am fred:

I only saw Cecil Taylor once, but it was a great set. A solo set, though he was supposed to perform with Amiri Baraka, who did a solo opening performance instead. Seems they got into an argument right before the show and didn't want to perform together
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:07am Jeff Golick:

That sounds about right, @fred. What was the venue?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 1/21/18 10:09am sberger:

Good morning everyone...nice selection Jeff. If interested, here's an extensive piece on the recordings leading up to this Kohn gig,and the concert itself. '78 was quite a remarkable year for CT, to say the least. burningambulance.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:09am fred:

Cité de la musique, a big fancy concert hall in Paris
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:10am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for that link, and good morning, @sberger!
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:12am Doug Schulkind:

Wow wow wow is this great. Just found a link to it at Inconstant Sol: http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2009/11/sirone-with-cecil-taylor-unit-live-in.html?m=1
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:13am JtotheK:

Hi Jeff, hi everyone. I am picking up what you are putting down this morning! (My attempt at sounding cool...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:15am Jeff Golick:

Oooh thanks for that link, @Doug! Everyone should avail themselves...

Hey, @JtotheK! You have upped the hip quotient! As the kids say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:15am fred:

This Sunny Murray track is wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:16am doctorjazz:

Saw CT a few times, great shows. Jarrett and CT are so different, apples and roast beef. Only went to see Jarrett once at the Vanguard. He came out (solo}, started to play, heard some noise, stopped and sat there. Started again, some noise again, stopped again. Sat straight, didn't say a word. Started again, again heard some audience noise, got up and left. End of show. Couldn't listen to him for years after that. Got to like him again when I heard the 70s "American" quartet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:17am Jeff Golick:

Yeah.

I'll confess that I am looking forward to listening to the new Jarrett/Peacock/DeJohnette standards album, tho.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:31am Dean:

J/P/D have another standards record coming out? I play those endlessly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 1/21/18 10:32am sberger:

This Threadgill album is wonderful. Just picked it up last week and listened through a few times since. Guys like him and Roscoe, are living legends and to be able to continue to produce on this level after having done it for decade after decade is mind blowing. Recording it is one thing, but to then go out and play live like they still both do is quite another. I'm envious that you're going to see the Shipp/Mitchell gig Jeff...Happy Birthday, btw!
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:34am Dean:

Heard CT a few times, most memorably at Victo in the big arena. He had trouble crossing the border into Canada, so John Oswald and Paul Plimley started the show, not having been on the program at all, to be followed by Marilyn Crispell, who was to have opened for CT. O&P played a full set, as did MC...and then CT arrived to play a full set. It was extraordinary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:34am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Dean! See: www.amazon.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:35am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @sberger! And yeah: agreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:35am Jeff Golick:

@Dean: what a night!
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:36am Dean:

Oh, man, looks great! But I didn't know that Mark E Smith wrote standards.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:37am Dean:

Been listening to a lot of Bill Evans and Jarrett lately. Even spun Jean-Yves Thibaudet's Evans tribute a couple times.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:41am Dean:

I've told this before, but can't resist retelling: Whenever I went to Victo I'd stay at the B&B of a retired nurse who of course knew of the festival, but had no idea what the music was like. She would clip all of the local paper's (French) stories about it and save them for me or send them to me. One year a couple attendees and I decided to give her a gift consisting of a ticket to a show. The show was the CT show with MC and O&P. She went with us and thoroughly enjoyed the l-o-n-g program.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:41am Doug Schulkind:

I have zero tolerance for Jarrett’s pomposity.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:46am Dean:

I'm afraid that even if I learned Jarrett eats children I'd love his standards playing. (His Handel ain't bad, either.) For me, the trio is very much about the three musicians and their mutual inspirations. I love Peacock and DeJohnette, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:46am Uncle Michael:

Don't hold back, Doug!
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:47am JtotheK:

@Doug - how much tolerance would you have if Jarrett had a pompadour?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 10:47am fred:

@Doug: did Jeff Moore manage to fix whatever was wrong with the stream yesterday?
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:47am Doug Schulkind:

The opposite of pomposity: Anthony Braxton.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:48am Dean:

Opposite of Pomposity should be the name of the next Braxton issue.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

Oppomp City
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:50am Dean:

This News from the 70s disk is one of the handful I have from DMG purchases c.'98 or'99 that remain sealed. No good reason. Just are.
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:52am Dean:

Opposite of pompos-8C
  Sun. 1/21/18 10:52am Dean:

Rather, compos-8C
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:02am Jeff Golick:

Gary Sullivan of Bodega Pop/GTDR did a whole Zamrock show, btw: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:06am fred:

So it's time for the freeform part of this show. I love it (probably showing my age there)
  Sun. 1/21/18 11:09am Dean:

WFMU should play more Ferron. This song reminds me of her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:11am Brian in UK:

When I was young I could go for details of records and how little links could take you to other records and find gems. Now I cannot give a toss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:12am Brian in UK:

I found it rather sad in Neil Young's autobiography he spent several pages on the time he spent in Costco Hawaii.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:13am doctorjazz:

Like this Fussell, have a soft spot for this style, some Mississippi John Hurt in there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:14am doctorjazz:

New to me...
  Sun. 1/21/18 11:15am Dean:

In high school a bunch of buddies would get together and write what we dubbed "feder" (FADE-er, i.e., feather) stories, short stories composed spontaneously and individually over 15 or 20 minutes, sparked by a shared title, e.g., Picket Fence to Death, Bins at Arcadia, etc. Paradise of Bachelors would have made a great title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:19am Brian in UK:

Dean, most WFMU daily/weekly show names would fit the bill. Look up any DJ and see their show names for the year.
  Sun. 1/21/18 11:20am Dean:

That is true, BiUK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:20am Brian in UK:

The Ambiguity of Rain is my two pennyworth.
  Sun. 1/21/18 11:21am Dean:

I shudder to imagine how a story called Hinky Dinky Time would turn out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:21am Brian in UK:

Well there are exceptions to every ruler.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:21am Jeff Golick:

Probably pretty hinky.
  Sun. 1/21/18 11:23am Dean:

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The rooty poots were out in droves..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:23am Brian in UK:

Does anyone read Rolling Stone these days? Last time I looked it was advert city.
  Sun. 1/21/18 11:24am Dean:

Taibbi now and then.
Avatar Sun. 1/21/18 11:25am glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:27am Jeff Golick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:29am Brian in UK:

glenn, funny it is one of those records I have been wanting to get for ages but I do not keep lists. So I forget. On a similar line when I bought you countryman Ron Sexsmith's Other Songs; I must have played Strawberry Blond into double figures the first day.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:41am Jeff Golick:

I think I saw them on an off night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:42am Brian in UK:

Watched Spinal Tap last night with someone who had never seen it. Always good entertainment watching the watcher.
  Sun. 1/21/18 11:44am Tranrewreck:

Wonderful show this (early west coast)morning. The whole has been better than the sum of its parts and the parts have been singularly marvelous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:44am fred:

@Brian: A classic. The metal umlaut over the n also makes the name a good test for unicode support
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 1/21/18 11:45am doctorjazz:

Iris Dement was in Brooklyn about a year and a half ago, with John Prine, one of those "kick yourself for not making it" shows...
