Ridgewood Radio features live sets by adventurous bands and experimental musicians, recorded at clubs and galleries running along the L-train corridor through Brooklyn and Queens from Williamsburg to the Rockaways. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the blossoming Ridgewood neighborhood, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Hey! Stuart Davis just came up in a college-level textbook on art that I'm editing!
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 3:01pm david w:

Yes we did this just for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:02pm steveo:

greetings; now i'm wondering how much my 7-year-old can take, but we'll give him a good dose :)

Hi David and all you out there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:04pm steveo:

(he and his brother loved the sound art out at the outpost last year)

Wadada Leo Smith is playing tonight with Deerhoof at Le Poisson Rouge in Manhattan (wish I could get to it, not likely).
Mathew Shipp is playing with Roscoe Mitchell At Carnegie Hall/Zankel Hall Jan 27.

Greetings all! The mouses and the hee-haws are gone for now. We groove onward...
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 3:11pm david w:

Hmmm. My radar must have picked this up and influenced my radio desires for the week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:13pm steveo:

we're dancing
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 3:15pm david w:

If you have a kid dancing in 7/4, you are achieving greatness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:15pm fred:

Good afternoon David and all. I wish I could go to that show too (Wadada Leo Smith / Deerhoof)
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 3:18pm david w:

Hello, Fred. I didn't even see this LPR gig on the calendar! Just stumbled on this recording over the holidays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:19pm steveo:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:29pm fred:

Jeff Golick played a great set of Wadada Leo Smith last month
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:29pm northguineahills:

I missed Wadada Leo Smith in NYC (see date) Phew!, I was still in uni back then.

One of the most mindblowing shows I've seen was Leo Wadada Smith w/ Anthony Braxton. They played as if they once shared the same uterus, totally telpathically brilliant.
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 3:33pm david w:

I wander into jazz somewhat tentatively because there are master collectors out there, like Golick, who leave me in the dust(jacket).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:45pm fred:

These Andrew Cyrille sets are fitting for the drummer stream. (Also, great)
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 3:49pm david w:

Thanks, Fred. I thought so too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:57pm fred:

I saw a very nice trio (hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, guitar) yesterday where the guitar was the percussive instrument (sometimes through actual banging, but usually not)
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 3:58pm david w:

I like that combination!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 3:59pm northguineahills:

(I miss my kalimba :(

Another really interesting and cool show today, David. I don't always get to tune in, but I always enjoy it when I do. There's really nothing like it on the radio, or, really, anywhere
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 4:23pm david w:

Ruth is blushing. She says our motto should be "annoyingly irresistible"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 4:28pm fred:

That sure beats "irresistibly annoying", which was already claimed by Kenny G anyway (I still miss that show)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 4:30pm doctorjazz:

Definitely a cool show, really enjoyed, deliciously refreshing (as long as we're looking for catch phrases).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 4:51pm Sem:

Much obliged, David and Ruth, for today's show. A window on work I otherwise would not have heard anywhere. Anyway, what Mark R. said above. See you next time.
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 4:54pm david w:

Thanks Sem. And Mark. And Fred. We can't deny that positive comments help get us up and running, at least in part!
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 4:55pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Coming up next on the Drummer stream: "Not A Single Thing" Dreamy, strange, scary, mysterious, memory-bending, often beautiful collage today, with surprise listener phone calls, all improvised spontaneously into existence. With a little bit of Joe Frank (r.i.p.), sadly joining my other radio idol, Negativland's Don Joyce.
Come play: wfmu.org...

Sliding into Kenzoland... thanks all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 4:58pm listener james from westwood:

What the what, we lost Joe?! Aw damn!

Thanks for the fine pieces, suitable for editing and Twitter-chatting, David and Ruth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 4:59pm Stanley:

That was wonderful stuff. Your show does it every time. Many thanks David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 1/17/18 4:59pm fred:

Thanks David (and Ruth) for another great show
