Dearest Gaylord, hello! My heart bursts with love for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 1:57pm Webhamster Henry:

Good snowy day music!
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 1:58pm Mary Wing:

Is it snowing upstate, Henry? We got a little wet snow here but it's not sticking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 1:59pm Gaylord Fields:

Mary, I adore and miss you too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:03pm northguineahills:

I'm jealous of all of your snow, even when it's cold down here, we never get snow :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:05pm Webhamster Henry:

Your idea of '3 of a kind' is like those cultures that count "1, 2, many"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:05pm Webhamster Henry:

We have about 8-10 " here in Kingston.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:06pm doctorjazz:

I can live without clearing more snow this winter (but seems I likely won't).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:06pm Webhamster Henry:

or in your numerical system, "many"
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:07pm Mary Wing:

Many, indeed!
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:08pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, NGH, didn't see you pop in!
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:09pm Mary Wing:

Forget the horns, dig that wah-wah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:11pm northguineahills:

I've never heard that Chicago song before, and I own a Chicago LP.
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:12pm Mary Wing:

<sputters> WHUT?

I know you were a late bloomer, musically speaking, but WHUT?
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:12pm Mary Wing:

;-)
  Wed. 1/17/18 2:12pm Spaceman One:

Hello Mary, will we be hearing the Bruce Foxton version of 25 Or 6 To 4?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:13pm Webhamster Henry:

"In what may be a coincidence, the song's writer, Robert Lamm, had recently written and sung another Chicago hit, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", for which this song's title can be seen to serve as an answer." -- WikiPedia
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:13pm Mary Wing:

Hi Spaceman One, unfortunately yes. He did not do a good version, I am sad to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:16pm Carmichael:

Awesome, got back in time to hear 25 versions of 6 to 4 ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:17pm northguineahills:

En serio, I've never heard this song before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:20pm Carmichael:

Back when Chicago was good ... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:20pm coelacanth∅:

okay this one's very good
  Wed. 1/17/18 2:20pm Dean:

Back in 1970 you couldn't NOT hear this song. It was played constantly. I have to say, too, that Chicago's version has held up. Terry Kath was amazing, and the horns were hot. Wish I'd kept the LPs.
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:21pm Mary Wing:

The voice sounds a little autotuned, though, don't you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:21pm doctorjazz:

It was so present, one wanted to get away from it at the time (at least, this one...). Nice to hear now, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:22pm coelacanth∅:

yes now that i'm in the room i hear the autotune. blugh... but it's still good, except for that. makes up for the last 2!
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:24pm Mary Wing:

Why, Bruce, why?
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:25pm Mary Wing:

He also made sure to put his bass really far up in the mix, just cause he can, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:26pm northguineahills:

My parents only met in late autumn, 1970, and my father stopped listening to music shortly after I was born (My mother never did).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:27pm doctorjazz:

Like a Zep/Chicago mash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:28pm coelacanth∅:

this almost has a zep's ripoff of babe i'm gonna leave you thing going on.
  Wed. 1/17/18 2:29pm Spaceman One:

"Baby, I'm gonna leave you"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:29pm coelacanth∅:

oh^ never mind!
  Wed. 1/17/18 2:29pm Dean:

OMG, Vince Neil covered it: https://www.whosampled.com/Vince-Neil/25-or-6-to-4/
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:29pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh.
  Wed. 1/17/18 2:30pm Dean:

You're gonna play it, aren't you? Aren't you?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:31pm northguineahills:

And I thought I knew my classic rock (I even used to dj a classic rock night in Brooklyn, ages ago).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:33pm doctorjazz:

Like this vocal treatment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:34pm Webhamster Henry:

I like the vocal & marching band versions. I should try making a music box version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:34pm doctorjazz:

And Marching Band! (Monica used to play marching bands regularly, miss them)
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:35pm david w:

Hard to remember when marching bands were only allowed to play Sousa and school anthems. Playing this helped the poor kids feel cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:36pm Webhamster Henry:

I have two records of Hal Leonard Marching Band arrangement demos from I think the late 70s and early 80s. Probably found at the WFMU Rec Fair.
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:36pm Mary Wing:

Howdy, David and the Ridgewood crew!
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:37pm david w:

Howdy to y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:39pm coelacanth∅:

damn. this one's so close to being really good...just - why the rearrangement toward a major key here and there? bad idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:40pm steveo:

Hi! Unfortunately, I'm home sick today with my son and not listening. I'll have to circle back for the "25 or..." covers (We played it while we were in marching band too!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:40pm coelacanth∅:

yeah, new singer please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:41pm Webhamster Henry:

It'd be good on banjo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:42pm steveo:

(i'm not sure we thought it was cool, though, david)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:42pm coelacanth∅:

sorry! it's frustrating! so many good musical ideas in that one but then enough bad decisions on the singer's part to throw it off.
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:42pm Mary Wing:

Hi Steveo, sorry to hear your son is sick, I know how he feels!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:43pm steveo:

thanks, we're both sick! I hope you're feeling better though....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:43pm northguineahills:

I schlepped through marching band my HS years, playing the coolest instrument around, the mellophone! (marching French Horn).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:44pm steveo:

(i mean we thought is was fun, sure, but by the mid-80s, probably not cool :)
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:44pm david w:

Band leaders just got sick of kids whining about playing pop music and this one was just "brassy" enough to make the case. Eventually I even heard Purple Haze on the football field.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:45pm doctorjazz:

Love the Ukelelists version! (is that really the word for ukulele players?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:45pm steveo:

smoke on the water was a big one
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:46pm doctorjazz:

Maybe Rocky meets Chicago?
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:46pm Mary Wing:

Is this guy for real with the vocal histrionics?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:47pm coelacanth∅:

haha, smoke on the water. that should not happen. all those instruments and they're going back and forth between 3 chords.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:48pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Blasmasters - wince!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:48pm steveo:

well, we were the tigers, so there was the obligatory "eye of"; yeah coela, the low brass was pretty repetitive on that one...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:49pm steveo:

ok i'm listening now :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:50pm Sem:

Lovely idea, Mary. Getting a kick out of these covers, thanks for getting it together for us all. See you next time...and I hope your healing continues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:50pm steveo:

wondering how much I can take....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:50pm coelacanth∅:

ha more zep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:51pm Carmichael:

Maybe Amanda did a version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:51pm northguineahills:

I played Smoke on The Water in HS on a football field.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:51pm coelacanth∅:

...and ,classical gas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:52pm Listener Bob in PGH:

I'm sure there is a MIDI version of this song out there in the ether
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:52pm Webhamster Henry:

Funny interpolations in this Moogy one!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Has anyone at the Hoof 'n' Mouth done this song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:55pm Gaylord Fields:

Someone oughta give Ridgewood Radio a heads-up. I think Mary will be playing versions of this song until 25 or 6 to 4.
Avatar Wed. 1/17/18 2:55pm Mary Wing:

Hi Bob and Dean, thanks for coming with me to the home stretch! The last cover will be the BEST ONE, I promise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:55pm Listener Bob in PGH:

@ steveo - I initially took your comment about not being able to take much more literally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:56pm coelacanth∅:

Gaylord haha
  Wed. 1/17/18 2:56pm Dean:

Gotta admit, the Vince Neil is pretty solid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:56pm steveo:

it was ambiguous! (i've only heard a couple though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:56pm steveo:

pretty straight cover though

(vince i mean)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:57pm coelacanth∅:

the Vince Neil is good. i don't love the vox but i don't hate 'em.
  Wed. 1/17/18 2:58pm Dean:

In fact, Chicago stole the tune from JA&G.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/17/18 2:58pm coelacanth∅:
