@coel: that was my gateway as well. I love his Fennesz stuff as well, and I can dig his stuff back through to some of the 80s, and some of the early walker bros. stuff works w/ its naivety.

UM, exploring his back catalogue but still with scant experience i would agree. -and i'd heard him before soused but only the "hits", which i'm not into. i had to hear the most extreme first, and now i've also found some not-as-noisy-but-certainly dark-and-weird stuff that i like. (though i couldn't name titles at this point)

Coel, he did whore himself out in the '70s with some pop records that he now disavows (but I like in places), that are off the arc. That right after the Walker Brothers he was the first to record Brel in English (in a non-cast-album context, THEN made those four amazing "Scott" albums" THEN started getting really wierd on his portion of a Walker Brothers reunion album in the '80s...

Eb is the "normal" character on the show (not Oliver Douglas), because he's not the fish out of water. He's basically the Greek chorus. He's subversive because he's naturalistic, but *bent*.

The nuttiness of them and other characters doing their "thing," -- Haney, Kimball, etc. -- is fun, but like other shows of its time, it was primarily a frustration comedy...the endless frustration of Oliver, which makes it tough to take in anything but small doses.

i do not remember that character. when we were little we watched green acres but laughed AT it nearly as much as with it. dumb country bumpkins and spoiled city slicker(s?) ironic because where did we get that but from our parents, and each of them (independent of each other, as they became) ultimately revealed a great fondness for country music.
