Is she? Makes sense, but I had never put that together!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 9:25am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff. When do the clocks move? Ours are next weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 9:26am doctorjazz:

Some how that sticks in my mind, though I can't find information either way so far on the Google.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 9:27am doctorjazz:

March 12,2 weeks from now over here, Brian.

OUTstanding show so far, Mr. G! Greetings, assembled masses!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 9:30am Jeff Golick:

Hey there, @Brian in UK. I think they ("they") moved it to mid-November here this year for some reason.

Douglas! Hellooo. Stackin' this fine morning?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 9:33am annie:

Thanks, @annie! ::puts on 56 min record; heads over to annie's::
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 9:43am doctorjazz:

Bagels and bacon, my upbringing won't allow it (and I LOVE bacon, but I can hear the Rabbis turn over with that combo) .
Great set, Jeff, love the Smith track!
  Sun. 10/22/17 9:45am JtotheK:

Good Morning Jeff, Good Morning - everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 9:46am Jeff Golick:

Top of the morning to you, @JtotheK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 9:48am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @doctorjazz. That Wadada record came in just a tad too late for the Monk show a couple weeks ago, but couldn't resist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 9:48am coelacanth∅:

no bacon for me either, thanks. nothing to do with upbringing. i'd make a smoked salmon and onions run if i wasn't here, stranded inna house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:02am doctorjazz:

Any Dizzy today? Yesterday was his 100th Birthday Anniversary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:03am Brian in UK:

Thanks normally you folks are two or three weeks ahead changing and I miss the first hour of programming.

Chilly here today after Storm Brian, yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:03am doctorjazz:

(all the 40s bebop is around 3 minutes long...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:05am Uncle Michael:

Out? I'm in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:06am doctorjazz:

Yankees out too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:06am Jeff Golick:

Heyo!

Greetings, @Uncle Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:07am Jeff Golick:

No Dizzy, @doc. (You didn't get your fill yesterday on WKCR?) I've never really warmed to much of his stuff, tbh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:08am Uncle Michael:

Well, the two best teams in baseball are meeting in the WS...which isn't always the case. So that's cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:08am doctorjazz:

Have to clicky star this Syringe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:12am Jeff Golick:

My feelings exactly, @UM. Go, Astros.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:13am doctorjazz:

Really Jeff? Interesting... When I started exploring bebop, Dizzy was my entry point, found him easier to "get" than Bird at first. Saw him live many times (later on, of course), was always great to see him. Still think he was great (even though, or maybe because, he also thought about the entertainment aspect of performance)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:13am Uncle Michael:

Yes, go Altuvestros!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:14am Jeff Golick:

Veering into Tony Coulter territory here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:17am Jeff Golick:

@doc: I think my very first encounters with Dizzy on records were poor choices (by me) and that sort of set the stage...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:25am Uncle Michael:

Is anyone else as excited about the possibility of Lewis Hamilton clinching a 4th world championship this afternoon as I am?

No?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:27am Jeff Golick:

Uh...no. But: did he kneel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:28am doctorjazz:

One can make the case that, while there were certainly adventurous composers and musicians before bebop, the drive (in jazz; classical was much earlier) to search for "out" sounds starts seriously with Bird, Diz, Monk, Bud, etc (which also coincides with jazz's decline as pop music).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:29am Uncle Michael:

We don't know yet. It hasn't transpired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:30am Uncle Michael:

Coleman Hawkins sought a bit of adventure. Arguably so did Pops and Sidney Bechet before Hawkins did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:31am Brian in UK:

@Uncle, have you seen the MotoGP from Phillip Island in Australia today. Man, that is some racing. F1 is OK but where is the racing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:32am Brian in UK:

Is it true that Coleman Hawkins gave the saxophone a credible place in the musical world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:35am coelacanth∅:

i've never disliked Diz' music but i've never been compelled to listen to it either. once in a while's good.
be bop in general doesn't always excite me. (and i don't consider Monk be bop, though i've seen him in that category, strangely, i think.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:35am Jeff Golick:

I'm gonna say yes to that, @Brian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:36am Uncle Michael:

Today the racing will be Lewis and Seb going into the first turn. There's great racing in the mid-pack all of the time. The grid is basically three tiers and there's racing within those tiers but not between them. I don't recall a time when 2-3 teams didn't dominate. As long as it's not *one*, I'm fine with it. That happens sometimes and it's boring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:38am Uncle Michael:

Coleman Hawkins went to Topeka High School.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:38am doctorjazz:

Absolutely, UM, and Duke and others...but the idea that finding a "new thing" was a big part of the reason d'etre of the music starts, to some extent, with beboppers. (of course, lots of beboppers then idolized Bird and institionalized lots of the innovations, leading to another "revolt" in the 50s. And this stuff is never really all that linear, but it's a useful framework for me...).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:41am doctorjazz:

Gotta go, been fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:42am Jeff Golick:

By @doc -- AND THANKS FOR THE PLEDGE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:43am Brian in UK:

So sad that Alonso is stuck with a poor engine and that engine is a HONDA, especially with their pedigree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:44am Brian in UK:

Kings of Hits, Stormin' Brian Eno.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:44am coelacanth∅:

nice surprise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:45am Uncle Michael:

Alonso just re-signed wit McLaren and Honda is OUT. Renault is in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:46am Uncle Michael:

I expect McLaren to join Red Bull in nipping at Mercedes' and Ferarri's heels in 2018.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 10:46am coelacanth∅:

honda certainly can make a shitty motor though, sometimes. (don't buy a honda lawn mower, i.e.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:49am Brian in UK:

Alonso had no choice, all the other seats worth having are taken. What has Renault done to justify faith in them recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:50am Brian in UK:

Oh yes Red Bull!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:52am Uncle Michael:

Built an engine that reliable and pretty quick in a chassis that are inferior to Mclarens and damned good in a good chassis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 10:55am Uncle Michael:

Eugene Berman makes a joke, but that's literally how I live my life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 11:04am Jeff Golick:

I appreciate that outlook.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 11:05am Stanley:

Hear for the last hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 11:06am Uncle Michael:

When the electric company took me off the air on Friday, the scene was pretty much like the first time you see the creature in Forbidden Planet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 11:09am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Stanley! Welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 11:09am Jeff Golick:

Ha, @UM. (Or too soon?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/22/17 11:10am Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/22/17 11:38am coelacanth∅:

today Hans-Joachim Roedelius is at suny new paltz - essentially where i live...probably for a couple bucks. i've looked forward to it for over a month.
yesterday i took a ride out of state to work for 4 days, as i have transportation issues and would've been foolish to not take the opportunity.
so much for seeing Roedelius. he's 82 years old.
