Ok, there we go! Hey there, @Scaps deSelby! How you?
Welcome, @davefromtoronto.
@UM! What brings you to our rainy shores?
@Brian in UK: i've got no beef with the atomic clock. What are its demands? Also: hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 9:14am Uncle Michael:

We're getting ready to head out soon to visit the Wright Brothers Memorial. I'm down in Nags Head.

I remember the store, Doug.
Happy almost Thelonious Monk birthday, all! (Tuesday wkcr will do their 24 hour birthday broadcast, I believe they have an on line stream)
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 9:44am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 9:45am doctorjazz:

I can see why Monk's angular sense of time would be hard for the rhythm section of the time.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 10:17am doctorjazz:

Aww, got a phone call had to take, missed Dollard Brand. Loving the rest of the set, though. Fun to hear Dr. JOHN play jazz.

anything by mike murley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 10:19am doctorjazz:

Steve Lacy playing Monk could probably be its own set...
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 10:19am glenn:

but i'm not a jazz expert, by any stretch.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 10:20am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for that, @glenn.

And yeah, @doctorjazz, Lacy really dug deep. Nothing planned today, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/8/17 10:24am coelacanth∅:

greetings Jeff and OUTies
...is it Monk's birthday?
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 10:26am Jeff Golick:

Hi hi hi, @coelacanth∅! Monk's actual birthday is Tuesday; it's his 100th. Celebrating a little early.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 10:28am Jeff Golick:

@doc: Steve Lacy is actually on this Anthony Davis cut, so...unavoidable, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/8/17 10:36am coelacanth∅:

whew, i was worried he died - again.
...so i'll take the chance of repeating myself rather than possibly neglecting to say it at all that your Monk marathon premium cd is pretty Stellar. one of the ones that gets listened to repeatedly.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 10:38am Jeff Golick:

That's wonderful to hear, @coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/8/17 10:47am Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 10:50am doctorjazz:

Cool track, this Kwambe. Interesting personnel (don't hear either of those great trombones, though...).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/8/17 11:01am doca:

Hey, Jeff G, long time no hear. Great Monk tribute, unfortunately didn't catch your premium CD as @coelacanth had.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:02am Jeff Golick:

@doca: Yeah! Thanks! Great to see you here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/8/17 11:02am doca:

Monk and Coltrane were the first jazz musicians into whose works I consciously delved, after seeing Ken Burns' jazz documentary as a teenager. There's a lot of misses and flaws in the series, but it surely started a lot of people into jazz.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:03am Jeff Golick:

@doc: yeah, both 'bones are on side two.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:05am glenn:

best headline i've read today. nationalpost.com...

Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:08am Jeff Golick:

@glenn: their reaction seems appropriate
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:10am glenn:

there was much shooting of wild boar when i was in italy. less radioactive, or perhaps the italians are made of sterner stuff.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:13am Jeff Golick:

wait for it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 10/8/17 11:15am doca:

Why did the boar became radioactive?
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:15am glenn:

fallout from chernobyl, or so the theory goes.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:24am glenn:

ewwww. don't throw up on the playlist.

Got a lot of time for Richard Williams. He put together a Salsa comp around 1970 on Island. First time I had heard that wonderful music. It was called Salsa!
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:28am glenn:

so who was ronnie scott?
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:33am Jeff Golick:

I keep hoping someone more knowledgeable will answer that, @glenn...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 11:36am Brian in UK:

glenn an English tenor player who ran a jazz club in Soho with I think Pete King from the Sixties until his demise a few years ago. The club was getting a bit sad. In the last few years it has been revived. His club had some of the greats appearing. I remember seeing Bill Evans there in the late 70s.
Bizarrely he also ran a car racing team if my memory serves.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:36am Jeff Golick:

Apparently, he's also the guy who took the solo in "Lady Madonna."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 11:39am Brian in UK:

Old joke, the doctor says I need a hip joint. Well you better go to Ronnie Scotts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 11:40am Brian in UK:

Interesting premise for Richard Williams' blog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 11:41am doctorjazz:

Loving this South African Township music!
(went to Ronnie Scott's a few years ago, caught the late, after hours set, liked the club, have to say (But, I'm easy...)
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:42am Jeff Golick:

Remind me what that premise is, @Brian?
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:42am glenn:

the first i heard of tronnie scott's was from watching a jeff beck show on youtube. i thought it was a new etablishment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 11:46am Brian in UK:

I quote "how Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue had influenced half a century of modern music"
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:46am Jeff Golick:

This show is going to run long...this Osborne/Tracey will take us a little past the top of the hour.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:47am Jeff Golick:

@BinUK: ah, yeah. Huh. Ok, then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 11:47am Brian in UK:

Nothing major.
Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:47am Jeff Golick:

Guessing then previous track might be for Johnny Clegg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 10/8/17 11:51am doctorjazz:

Avatar Sun. 10/8/17 11:51am Jeff Golick:
