Good morning, fellow Cubs fans.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am
Uncle Michael:

What can I say? I woke up tumescent.
Avatar 9:09am
Kurt Gottschalk:

i had to look that word up and now wish i hadn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Uncle Michael:

I mean the second definition. Not the first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Uncle Michael:

maybe
Avatar 9:14am
Kurt Gottschalk:

ah. i got freaked and quit reading so i still don't know how you woke up. i'll assume rooster crowed.
Avatar 9:17am
V Priceless:

Heya KG! Uncle! Sorry I'm late - as a formerly-alive employer used to lament 'I am up to my ass in alligators' here! : )
Avatar 9:17am
Kurt Gottschalk:

alive at the time of lament, i assume?

morning, veep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am
Uncle Michael:

I see what you did there.
Avatar 9:20am
V Priceless:

@ Kurt: indeed! I've got pages upon pages of some of the greatest quotes ever - 'if we can't do it right on time, we'll do it wrong', 'don't take my name in vain', etc.
Avatar 9:21am
V Priceless:

'I'm fighting tigers and gnats are biting my ears'.....
Avatar 9:21am
Kurt Gottschalk:

ok, unk, i went back and read the second definition. it's actually amazing that word has both of those meanings. i'll have to queue it up for a wake and bake word of the week!
Avatar 9:21am
glenn:

somehow i suspect that uncle michael might be the only cubs fan amongst us.
Avatar 9:22am
Kurt Gottschalk:

he's certainly the only cubs fan amongst me and i used to live in chicago!
Avatar 9:25am
glenn:

i'm an indians fan for the rest of this season.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am
Uncle Michael:

Did I see you recently reference Harvey, IL, Kurt? When I lived well south of the city and was going to school at SAIC, Harvey was a stop on the I.C.
Avatar 9:30am
V Priceless:

@ KG: read a blurb from Andy Partridge about the Moulding/Chambers collab - when asked the inevitable XTC reunion question, he said, 'why would you marry your ex?' Kinda sad, but I, for one, am very excited about this release!
Avatar 9:31am
glenn:

is phillip wilson canadian? lester b. pearson was one of our prime ministers.
Avatar 9:37am
Kurt Gottschalk:

unk, yes, some band was from there or something. i forget now.

veep, i am excited about that record as well, but i'd be dubious about a new xtc.

glenn, phillip wilson was from st. louis. the reference is to lester bowie.
Avatar 9:40am
glenn:

better than calling him l. bowie, i suppose.

It's nice to see Supertramp getting more love these days.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am
Uncle Michael:

Should I go see The Darkness next April?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am
Uncle Michael:

I might...but it's on a school night.
Avatar 10:53am
Kurt Gottschalk:

i'm guessing you woulnd't need to stay till the end but you'd have fun anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am
Uncle Michael:

I never leave shows early. It's over an hour away.
Avatar 10:56am
Kurt Gottschalk:

you shouldn't travel over an hour for the darkness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
Uncle Michael:

I live in Kansas. I have to travel for any show. It really comes down to whether a show on a school night is worth taking time off from work the following day for.
Avatar 10:58am
Kurt Gottschalk:

i don't think you should take off time from work to see the darkness. i have quickly become thoroughly against your going to see the darkness.
Avatar 10:59am
Kurt Gottschalk:

plus they probably look old now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am
Uncle Michael:

I look older.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
Uncle Michael:

OK, I'm not going to go see The Darkness.
Avatar 11:00am
Kurt Gottschalk:

good. don't.

P-90:

Hi Kurt, UM, and everyone sharing the darkness
  11:01am
Dean:

From the notes for this MAE recording, re: this piece by Dave Ballou:

'Saxophonist Steve Lacy was quoted as saying “the difference between composition and improvisation is that in composition you have all the time you want to think about what to say in 15 seconds, while in improvisation you have 15 seconds.” For me, composition is notated improvisation and improvisation is instantaneous composition. for brass quintet and percussion comes from this perspective.'
Avatar 11:04am
Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks, dean!
  11:08am
Dean:

I could post from the Orbison liner notes, too, but I won't.
Avatar 11:13am
Kurt Gottschalk:

i don't see why not...
  11:17am
Dean:

Suffice to say the notes refer to "the evil trolls, Mediocrity and Obscurity," and state that "Roy HAS ARRIVED and the party is going on now--inside this cover. Shall we join him?"
  11:18am
Dean:

Woulda been cool if the Orbison notes had also mentioned Steve Lacy.
Avatar 11:18am
V Priceless:

this is putting me in the mood to hear 'I Bought Me a Cat"
Avatar 11:18am
Kurt Gottschalk:

consider it sufficed!
  11:22am
Dean:

I used to sing "I Bought Me a Cat" in the car with wary passengers. I'd add a verse--"I bought me a dog"--and when I got to the line, "My dog says...," instead of "woof" or "ruff," I'd let out a full-throated bark like a rabid German Shepherd. Scary and funny as hell.
Avatar 11:22am
Kurt Gottschalk:

haha!
Avatar 11:23am
V Priceless:

@ Dean - haha nice!

Hey, late to the party, hi! (I'm in transit Thursday mornings, tried to listen in the car with the FMU phone app but wouldn't work. Any technical glitches today? Sometimes my phone/car just doesn't cooperate).
Avatar 11:29am
Kurt Gottschalk:

welcome, dr. j. i haven't had any reports of tech glitches. do you have the tune-in app? it's handy as a backup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
doctorjazz:

Have to try Tune-in, used to have it at some point, but been using the FMU app for most mobile situations.

Listening to the Waterman piece, wondering why Eddie Izzard's bit about sawing wood in the back yard is leaping to mind.

"I don't like 'Star Wars.'" Amen.
