Was trying to figure out who had the well known version of "Greenback". Turns out it was the Kingston Trio. Also turns out that Hoyt Axton had some kind of hit with it.

melinda:

The first time I heard Greenback Dollar it was someone singing it badly on a camping trip, and it was thus tainted for a long time.

Passaic River Blues:

Someone call Light in the Attic--that "Greenback Blues" track would be golden for the next edition of their "Country Funk" collection.

Dammit, Anita Carter has a voice! I was first hipped to her work when I won the "Songbird" compilation as an Emcee prize during marathon one year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am
Parq:

Melinda, hah! The first time I heard Greenback was when I was taught it by a counselor in summer camp.
  11:43am
melinda:

@parq it must be a campfire favorite! I like Anita Carter, too, almost didn't recognize her here due to the fancy arrangement and different style.
