(Tom's Tracks, Providence, RI, most likely)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Funky16Corners:

It's weird, I probably have something like 7-8,000 records down here, LPs and 45s, and the ones that I can definitely assign point of purchase to are things I bought new in the 80s
Avatar 10:18pm
hyde:

holy crap, Zen Arcade and Double Nickels on cassette is an *awesome* birthday present

- hi Larry and all
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey C!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
coelacanth∅:

i never didn't listen to hüsker dü, but it's been >30 years since i listened to it as much as i have in the past week - and i've enjoyed that side effect of the sad departing.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, lots of amazing music there to savor
Avatar 10:25pm
hyde:

@coel yep, that's often the way
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Funky16Corners:

I never got to see Husker Du, though I once stoof on line behind Bob Mould to get into the bathroom at Maxwells
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Funky16Corners:

And that was tonight's brush with greatness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
coelacanth∅:

haha!

...i never went to maxwells that much. maybe 10-20X. i went to the dirt club a lot; and patrix and the court tavern in new brunswick.
i saw the hüskers at city gardens though.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Funky16Corners:

Went to all of those spots except for Dirt (I have no idea why not). Loved City Gardens back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
coelacanth∅:

city gardens was great but pretty far for me. we/i only went there for the bigger ones...and hüsker dü, who wasn't big yet but my friend was friends with them.
(we all went to the diner after the show...touché!)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Funky16Corners:

Now THAT is a brush with greatness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
coelacanth∅:

patrix was pretty crazy right! so many punk bands and mostly friendly, but wild moshing...then it just stopped.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Funky16Corners:

It was in a house in the middle of New Brunswick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
coelacanth∅:

i barely remember the outside. i don't think it's there any more.
it did seem like a house inside though, now that you mention it. 2 rooms on the first floor, bathrooms upstairs.
- it got so crowded that sometimes coming downstairs the thing to do was jump over the railing onto the dance floor. some lovely lady once landing right in front of me and we started dancing!
Avatar 10:43pm
hyde:

love this record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
coelacanth∅:

- really liking this set
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm

Doug Schulkind:

Good evening, Larry and sonic true believers!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Doug!
  11:09pm
Dean:

Dang. Missed the Moby Grape.

As it happens, a box of 8 Hot Tuna LPs remastered (very well) to CD arrived yesterday, and I've just learned that the first HT album was recorded in a space two blocks from my abode.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Funky16Corners:

Very cool! I like me a bit of HT now and again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
coelacanth∅:

hey Doug!

...i need to explore the sir douglas quintet some. i don't know that song that mott covered, and i'm not sure i know anything of theirs beyond the first album or 2.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Funky16Corners:

Mendocino, where that song originated is a killer. They moved from Tribe to Mercury after those early 45s like She's About a Mover. Lots of it is available in reissue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm very fond of the first ht album. (entitled"hot tuna", but reissued with a different title, apparently)
  11:20pm
Dean:

I'm certainly growing fond of it.

The venue, formerly New Orleans House, is now an auto repair shop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll check out mendocino. thanks!

...Syd Barrett took those ideas from the i ching. (you probably knew that)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Funky16Corners:

I remember going to see Jorma back when he had a punk band called White Gland. Most of the audience was hardcore, overall wearing HT fans, with the shouts of 'Fuckin' A Jorma'. He played some HT stuff but the punk band was weird
  11:23pm
Dean:

Jorma punk?! Pat Smear has a thing or two to teach him. But then vice versa, too.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, he had two or three punkish bands for a while there. Not very good if memory serves
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
coelacanth∅:

i have to relocate. it might take a while to prime and kick-start the other computer.
- be right back. don't play anything while i'm gone.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Funky16Corners:

Radio silence commences...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Funky16Corners:

Shhhhh...don't anybody say anything...
  11:32pm
Dean:

Booger!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Funky16Corners:

Sorry about that, something weird just happened
  11:33pm
Dean:

Other than "Booger!," you mean.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Funky16Corners:

Yes, the odd truncation of Coconut Grove, but I'm down with BOOGER per Dr John Caravella
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
coelacanth∅:

cool - you started playing music again right as i logged on!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Funky16Corners:

I meant to do that! TA DA!!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Funky16Corners:

See how I planted that landing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
coelacanth∅:

pretty expert i'll say. you're ready for the dj olympics then.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Funky16Corners:

Short events only. I need to set aside plenty of time for beer and records
  11:41pm
Dean:

Where I live, beer and records are called a biathlon.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Funky16Corners:

I will bring home all of the medals, then
Avatar 11:46pm
northguineahills:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:47pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Funky16Corners:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
