Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/18/17 10:52am Sam Segal:

A friend of mine and I interviewed Ewart a few years ago for the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. He lived in the Twin Cities for a long time. The interview got edited down to 45 minutes, but our initial conversation lasted about three hours. Douglas was very generous and brilliant, obviously. Check it out here:

Merry Isthmus, βrian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/18/17 11:25am fred:

@βrian: You mean they were fake-fake-glasses? All that fake stuff is getting annoying. I hear fake Mr Softee trucks are a big issue in NYC

@βrian I could fix you up with a cannula to save that messy business of drinking.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/18/17 11:34am fred:

My favorite Konono N°1 show took place outdoors on a hot summer day. I saw them with a much better sound on other occasions, but that free show in a park seemed more appropriate, with people who didn't know them at all just drawn in by the sound. Alas, those free shows are not happening these days, for "security reasons"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/18/17 11:35am Uncle Michael:

No pressure!
Avatar Fri. 8/18/17 11:36am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/18/17 11:43am doctorjazz:

It does look that way, but if you enlarge it, it's actually a map.

Doug, forgot to mention this but you probably know already.

Sad to say, Lucinda has rerecorded Sweet Old World. Funnily, I played it the other night, what a beauty. Gurf and band are tops and her singing is spot on. Those days, compassion and caring were palpable in her song writing.
Now her voice is shot in my opinion. Why would you. Money, I hear you say.

When my little family goes on long car trips, we bring a go-to box of CDs (we just can't switch to MP3s, it seems) and many Lucinda discs are in the box. The most recent of the batch is Essence. After that record (and the departure of Gurf, as well) I things went in a direction I find harder to adore.

Totally with you there Doug, I tried but was left waiting. (no typo)
Thanks again for all you do.

Peak Lucinda + Gurf is the song "Sundays" recorded live on KCRW radio. It appears on the self-titled Koch compilation.
