Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:04pm Lane Gray:

Mixed blessings. I'm not working today, but I'm home with the lovely Missus

I'm sure Spicey will find some job in the private sector for 10x the cash. And that Melissa McCarthy will begin getting her Sarah Huckabee Sanders act into tune for the opening of the next SNL season!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:05pm Jeff Golick:

Welcome back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:06pm doctorjazz:

Too bad about Spicer, loved the Saturday Night Live routine...(Times says he actually talked back to Trump on an appointment, WOW)
Welcome back, UM!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:06pm Gary:

Spicer is the only one from this administration I'll miss. Great to see someone on their end whose face visually projects fear
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:07pm Uncle Michael:

Jeff! Doc!!
Fri. 7/21/17 12:07pm Rich in NC:

Hi Uncle Michael, where did you say you were broadcasting from?
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

Shit, if Spicey did actually talk back, then he was doing his job in the interest of the American people. Rara avis in West Wing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:08pm Uncle Michael:

Rich! Topeka, per usual.
Fri. 7/21/17 12:09pm Rich in NC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:09pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:09pm Jeff Golick:

Among the new legal hires at the White House, this name jumped out at me: Ty Cobb.
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:10pm Stãnley:

Digging this shit kicking music
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:10pm Uncle Michael:

Stanley!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Actually, the original Ty Cobb would probably be totally in the bag for 45, based on (possibly scurrilous) tales about the guy.
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:11pm Dean:

Heh, maybe Trump'll hire Frederick Douglass, too.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

So that wasn't me just brain-farting on that name, Jeff? Weird coincidence. Esp. with the first one's rep...
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

Or his friend Jim who can't go to Paris anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:11pm Uncle Michael:

Gotta hire a lawyer that'll come in spikes-high.
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:12pm Dean:

Heard a radio interview a few weeks ago with an author of a book about the original Cobb, an attempt to correct the myth of his virulent racism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:12pm doctorjazz:

Love this Blakey track (most Blakey), do my geeky personnel thing:
Bass – Reggie Workman

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:12pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

Steve!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:18pm Jeff Golick:

@Dean: I'm aware of that book, and what it attempts to do, which is why I hedged a little. Print the legend, though.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:26pm listener james from westwood:

Jeez, helluva 45, this and "Sanford and Son"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:27pm melinda:

no kidding, James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 12:33pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:39pm melinda:

I went and pulled up vines and weeds in my yard, now I feel yucky. This is good resting music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:39pm Uncle Michael:

If you gotta be hot, you might as well have umbrella drinks.
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:40pm Dean:

In some states, melinda, it's now legal to have weeds in your yard.

Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:42pm ndbob:

@Dean - heard an interview re the Cobb book
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:44pm Dean:

Same here, @ndbob. One of the arguments, iirc, is that it was hard at the time not to be racist. I simplify.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:46pm ndbob:

heat index here has dropped to 112:)
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:47pm davefromtoronto:

1975! Firmly into the Ford Era!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:48pm Lane Gray:

Sure sounds like Rock and Roll from Zeppelin.
Not like there are many 12 bar blueses
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:48pm melinda:

Yikes, Bob. I think 112-114 was the hottest I've experienced, and that was when I was a kid and more resilient. 89 with low humidity seems quite pleasant by comparison.
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:49pm Dean:

We're due to hit 74F this afternoon. I'll shut up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 12:50pm mauri:

Heyy uncle michael and gang!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:50pm Lane Gray:

It's hotter here than in Phoenix or Ludlow, Ca.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:50pm ndbob:

@Melinda actual air temperature here is upper 80s but it's always humid - upper 80s to mid 90s all summer
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:50pm Uncle Michael:

  Fri. 7/21/17 12:55pm Dean:

Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:55pm listener james from westwood:

I've had a strawberry popsicle to counteract dehydration.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

I just might. Beer fridge at my left elbow....
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:56pm geezerette:

Why aren't there beer popsicles?!
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:57pm Dean:

I had a *beautiful* Knee Deep triple IPA yesterday. ABV approaches wine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:57pm doctorjazz:

Nice to have a "beer fridge"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:57pm Uncle Michael:

I'm done with hoppy beers, Dean. I tried.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:58pm The Oscar:

Afternoon, Uncle and Unclites! An unpleasant 87 degrees here in Boston, but I'm lucky enough to hole up in the AC for a few hours more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 12:58pm Uncle Michael:

Oscar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 12:58pm Webhamster Henry:

I like the original French "Les Moulins de mon Coeur"
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:58pm geezerette:

Hoppy is better than sad.
  Fri. 7/21/17 12:58pm Dean:

What's your pleasure? I can't shake the hops, also enjoy sours, and occasionally a really chewy porter or milky stout.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 12:59pm Roberto:

Bruncle(?)
  Fri. 7/21/17 1:00pm Dean:

WOYM unavoidably invokes Bonzo Dog Band's Canyons of same.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:00pm Uncle Michael:

Porters, stouts, Lambics, Belgian Ales, an occasional bright lager...anything not hoppy...and not too crafty-cute.
  Fri. 7/21/17 1:01pm Dean:

I know *exactly* what you mean by "crafty-cute."
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:01pm geezerette:

Webhamster, me too,( I also).
Boy, this is a long recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:01pm Uncle Michael:

Very partial to Belgians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:02pm melinda:

Billy Paul was the name of the character played by Paul Simon in the SNL spoof of Billy Jack.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:02pm geezerette:

This is hilarious.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:05pm doctorjazz:

Love this Graham Parker, great album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:06pm melinda:

On the fbook page for a local establishment I saw a photo and description of a rose petal beer float w/honey vanilla ice cream. Probably qualifies as crafty and totally cute but I'd try it in a second.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:06pm Uncle Michael:

Parq!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:06pm melinda:

@Parq it still makes me laugh thinking about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:09pm doctorjazz:

I liked the Billy Paul but I also like that people found it hilarious and difficult.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:15pm Hams:

Hams! (woof)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 1:16pm Parq:

@ Melinda I like the sound of that so long as it's not served in a dog bowl or a shoe

What is that last line? Always sounded like "Ain't that sweet-ass blindness" but no way they would have put that on AM radio in those days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

half-blindness?
  Fri. 7/21/17 1:27pm Dean:

Looks like "sweet-eyed blindness."

I used to know the guy who composed the Union Label song, Malcolm Dodds. Yes, he said it was a pretty obvious rip off of "Look for the Silver Lining".

Hey NDBOB, thanks for the comment about,"the air that you breath", I'm always love learning about music

I always thought the magazine title Women's Wear Daily sounded better as Women Swear Daily.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:35pm Roberto:

Was there a comma between "coat" and "dress?" If so, that song would finally make sense to me some 40 years later.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:36pm Roberto:

Although I suppose there could be such a thing as a coatdress.
  Fri. 7/21/17 1:37pm Dean:

Lady Speed Stick, the deodorant, sounds better as Lady Speed's Dick. But that's pretty goddamn puerile.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:37pm geezerette:

!
  Fri. 7/21/17 1:38pm Dean:

Heard Thunders at the Whisky. He was blotto.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:39pm geezerette:

Winning pickup line.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:40pm listener james from westwood:

Lemmy!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:41pm Hams:

ah, you're speaking over BRYCE'S SHOW. i get it. interesting gesture.
  Fri. 7/21/17 1:41pm Dean:

Too bad the genre metadata didn't dub this one Easy Listening. That'd be cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

We're gonna ride out the last couple minutes of this terrible sounding MP3. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

hams...shhhh...don't tell on me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 1:47pm coelacanth∅:

hello and Welcome back Uncle M!
(i'm only here for a few then back to work.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 1:48pm Parq:

Harry, my dad knew him too. They were on the New York Board of Industrial Relations together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

Coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:53pm Brian in UK:

Uncle, flying visit, trying to help daughter get sorted for a triathlon tomorrow amongst other things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:54pm Uncle Michael:

Brian! good luck to her! How about Silverstone last weekend?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 1:57pm Brian in UK:

Glad to see Lewis win but I am more of a MotoGP watcher than F1.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 1:57pm ndbob:

@Rich ty - just saw your comment
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:00pm melinda:

@Dean Lady Speed's Dick would be a decent band name.
  Fri. 7/21/17 2:02pm Dean:

Rather, an indecent one, @melinda.
  Fri. 7/21/17 2:04pm Dean:

My copy of this Circle record is en route. Hard to believe Anthony Braxton, Chick Corea, et al., would head in this direction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:05pm Uncle Michael:

I only recently got hipped to Circle via a Brian Turner FB post. God bless WFMU.
  Fri. 7/21/17 2:06pm Dean:

Same here. Heard it on ... somebody's ... show this week. Promptly ordered it. And God bless Southern Lord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 2:07pm Parq:

As distinct from overcooked Rakkutta?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

Precisely, Parq.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:10pm geezerette:

Like this Circle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:11pm doctorjazz:

@Dean, you haven't heard Braxton/Corea do metal?
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:11pm geezerette:

(Do we care? No.)
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:12pm geezerette:

Was talking to myself @2:11.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:13pm Uncle Michael:

Talk amongst (or to) yourselves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:13pm doctorjazz:

One of these days will get to appreciate screamo (or not...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:14pm Uncle Michael:

Is this screamo? I know not from genres.
  Fri. 7/21/17 2:14pm Dean:

@doctorjazz, Not intentionally, no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:15pm doctorjazz:

The instrumental part of this is cool, though.
(not sure this is screamo, not processed, seems to be whispering hoarsely).
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:15pm geezerette:

Hot in here, my brain's melting like processed cheese.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:16pm geezerette:

Screamo sounds like a brand of processed cheese.
But what is it REALLY?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:17pm doctorjazz:

What my 18 year old daughter listens to (I get her back with Braxton)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:17pm Uncle Michael:

A dessert wax?
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:18pm geezerette:

!!! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:18pm melinda:

I've not heard of screamo until now.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:19pm geezerette:

Right? Neither have I.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:19pm doctorjazz:

en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:20pm doctorjazz:

It's a version of Metal, with processed, distorted vocals that sound like non stop screaming...
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:22pm geezerette:

Wow Doc! Never knew that had a name! And it's not even sightly new!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:26pm geezerette:

Western set! Yah-HOOOOOOO!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:27pm doctorjazz:

The benefits of having a teen girl.
(I've been to see some bands that use screamo with her, usually alternating with "normal" vocals. Skillet use it in some songs, sort of a "flavor" or spice. (I've seen Skillet 3 times-now that my daughter goes with her friends, likely won't ever see them again).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 2:28pm Parq:

Speaking of cooking, UM, we're in peak Greenmarket season here on the northeast, and since I am on light duty at work, I have had plenty of time to play in the kitchen. Even made a credible gumbo last weekend, as credible as possible without roux or filet powder.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:28pm geezerette:

Haha, that sounds like a break for you Doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:28pm Uncle Michael:

Parq, you gotta try Alton Brown's roux trick.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:29pm The Oscar:

This song always bends my brain. It's about a truck-driving man, who goes to a diner and repeatedly requests the waitress play a song called "Truck Driving Man"-- but, by all logic, it CAN'T be this song, because he's inside it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:30pm Uncle Michael:

And this is the original version of the song, Oscar.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:31pm listener james from westwood:

Taking you into the car, UM, so no typing for the next set; thanking you in advance!
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:32pm The Oscar:

IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 2:33pm Parq:

Baking it, you mean, UM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:34pm Uncle Michael:

Yes...it works 100% perfectly. Simplifies the whole gumbo thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:34pm Uncle Michael:

See ya, James.
  Fri. 7/21/17 2:35pm K Wilde:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:35pm Uncle Michael:

KW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/21/17 2:38pm Parq:

Amanda! We all had a crush on her in the summer of '10.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:38pm Uncle Michael:

"listen to my idiot hoots"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:51pm doctorjazz:

Have heard "Chinatown..." often, not with the vocals too often, cool.
Avatar Fri. 7/21/17 2:51pm geezerette:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:52pm Uncle Michael:

Usually go with the Mills Brothers but this is pretty cool.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/21/17 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the company, friends! See you next week in 1975.
  Fri. 7/21/17 2:59pm Dean:

For folks tired of Pachelbel's Canon, head for this recording: https://www.discogs.com/Pachelbel-J-S-Bach-Handel-Vivaldi-Musica-Antiqua-K%C3%B6ln-Reinhard-Goebel-Pachelbel-Kanon-Gigue-JS-Bach/release/2463981 It's a blast.
