Listener comments!

  Mon. 6/26/17 12:05am PJ:

Midnight Rambler is probably my least favorite Stones song, mostly because it is an interminable about a serial killer, but somebody got the right combination of drugs to the band on this night, because this version is smoking.
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:05am PJ:

interminable song
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 12:06am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mick Taylor. Not bad, yerknow.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:08am SMPL PRTL_:

Fuck yeah, Mick Taylor!
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:09am Jeff Conklin:

This is one of my favorite songs. Not just because its long but because MT just rips it up almost every time. Great version. Also, I'm a Stones nut and have never played them on the show before.

Good morning, all.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:11am SMPL PRTL_:

Afternoon! :)

Good evening from The Valley
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:14am SMPL PRTL_:

First time playing the Dead on this show as well, right? ;)
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:15am sam:

Evening from NorCal. Great segue! Brussels is the Stones at their best(although the Aussie '73 tour is even wilder).
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:15am Tidy666:

Greetings from Catskills Mr Conklin!starting off with a bang...always nice to be in the ghetto!pigpen!!
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:17am PJ:

Well, now we can see why The Dead were not signed to Stax. (Apologies to the Dead fans, but the vocals, among other things, have always left me blase.) But I do appreciate that they had good taste.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:19am Jennifer_PNW:

Good evening from a sultry Oregon, ~100 degree peak today
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:19am sam:

Knockin' the Pig...bad form :)
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:19am Tidy666:

Sometimes urine and vinegar are just a valuable as "talent"!
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:19am Jeff Conklin:

You're just a fountain of positivity this evening, PJ.

The Dead and Stax were just fine without any association.
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:21am PJ:

Sorry, Jeff, I am actually enjoying the program. I will refrain from further commentary.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:21am SMPL PRTL_:

I kind of appreciate the ragged but right approach.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:21am Jeff Conklin:

@PJ: No need to refrain, just bustin' yr chops a bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 12:22am fleep:

Jennifer_PNW we beat you, it hit 110 here, but the Santa Anas have lifted, the windows are open, and the Dead are serenading the neighbors and their yippy little dog.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:25am Jeff Conklin:

Straight levitation from Jerry on this.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:27am Jennifer_PNW:

Wow, Fleep! Just opened my windows, only the Dead are serenading the yippy neighbor children here.

levitation blues
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 12:34am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Levitation' is an Elevators word to me - but they all had relations, naturally.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 12:35am Jeff Conklin:

The Elevators had levitation for sure but the Dead had a lot more ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 12:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a point you have made, & which I now bring up w/ everybody: the simple fact that the Dead played - all - the - time - allowed a whole different sort of thing to happen around them...The Elevators code *was* to never play unless tripping - but they certainly had no scene like the Acid Tests which the Dead had the freedom to develop in - quite the opposite in Texas...
  Mon. 6/26/17 12:45am MONEYBAG$:

my dad got to see the dead in 1967, a show that doesn't even circulate

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 12:54am upsetter5001:

I didn't realize that Dead tune was from 67'. The harmonica sounded like " Smokestack Lightning" but everything else sounded like 1969 to me.
Avatar    Mon. 6/26/17 12:55am BEAVO:

Yeah, If the "Elevators" weren't tripping all the time someone might have said, "Hey, mabye lets NOT have the fucking jug on EVERY number.

goats head soup: the last great 'stones album. midnight rambler: the one song that keeps let it bleed from being the best 'stones album.

Late in, afternoon Jeff. Nasty work, will interrupt.

I don't hate midnight rambler. saw the stones a few years ago and they wheeled Mick Taylor out just to play it
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:07am Jennifer_PNW:

Arghh, this Farm record is too expensive on Discogs
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:08am Jennifer_PNW:

Just for the record, I vote yea on Midnight Rambler
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:09am Guido from Cologne:

Hello Jeff, hello people.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:10am Jennifer_PNW:

Hi Guido
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 1:10am coelacanth∅:

Mick Taylor composed the git part for honky tonk woman; wrote moonlight mile; wrote can't you hear me knockin', and most of the rest of sticky fingers - the 'stones best album....etc etc....midnight rambler has very little to do with the Great musician, Mick Taylor.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:11am Aitch:

Too much filler on Stones albums. Nothing of note for way too long either. Dead horse flogged.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:12am Aitch:

Do love Keef though
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 1:13am coelacanth∅:

no filler on sticky fingers, or between the buttons, for that matter.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:14am Jeff Conklin:

Well, seeing as how MT played on that version and all notable versions of Midnight Rambler, I'd say it has quite a bit to do with him.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:14am Jennifer_PNW:

Bummed that Mick Taylor never received songwriting credits from the Glimmer Twins
  Mon. 6/26/17 1:15am MONEYBAG$:

I love Metamorphosis and there are almost no Stones on it
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 1:15am coelacanth∅:

...maybe the guitar part...but it's notably un-sophisticated for Taylor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:19am Mark R.:

These Tripsichord folks are pretty groovy.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:20am Jeff Conklin:

@coel: I'll take that "un-sophistication" any day of the week.

Anybody else want to piss and moan for a bit? Let's get it all out tonight
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:20am Aitch:

I can't complain. But sometimes I still do.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:22am Jeff Conklin:

@Aitch: You're good. Opinions are fine. Telling someone else theirs isn't valid, not so much.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:24am Johnny Sal:

@Jeff: Uugghh! Mazzola, my least favorite Fingletoad album.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:24am Jeff Conklin:

@Johnny: HAHAHAH
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:25am Aitch:

I mean I'll listen again, could be wrong, often am. A project. Stones have a load of my fave songs, just they're all on different albums
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:25am Johnny Sal:

I know nothing of Fingletoad. Kinda digging this, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 1:26am coelacanth∅:

hey Jeff - was anyone here telling anyone else their opinion wasn't valid?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:30am Mark R.:

I love the Mick Taylor era of the Stones, but I think it's true that he was cheated out of many songwriting credits, which also happened to Ron Wood for many years. I'm glad they finally released "The Brussels Affair" officially. I had a cassette copy of it from "The King Biscuit Flower Hour" that I played to death. They were really playing great that night and it's a nice chance to hear some "Goats Head Soup" tunes like "Dancing with Mr. D." and "Heartbreaker." I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Taylor briefly in a hotel lobby a few years back when he was doing a few tunes with them on their tour. A very nice gentleman, he looked great (I know he'd had his struggles over the years, but he seemed quite healthy), and he said he was really enjoying the tour.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:30am Jeff Conklin:

@Coel: You're there telling me Midnight Rambler has nothing to do with MT, which, I mean, is demonstrably false.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:33am Jeff Conklin:

And I said I loved that version because of MT's playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:33am Mark R.:

Mick was not on the original recording on "Let It Bleed" (which is great in its own way), but on all those great live versions, he was a big part of it, especially as time went on, he developed that great slide part for it, which you featured tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 1:34am coelacanth∅:

yeah, he played git on it.
...so because i said this i'm telling you your opinion is wrong?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 1:38am coelacanth∅:

it was composed before Taylor joined the band, and shows nothing of the sophistication that was obvious on the entirety of sticky fingers.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:45am Jeff Conklin:

I like the Stooges and Yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:46am Mark R.:

Me, too, eff--there's room for the sophisticated AND the unsophisticated, sometimes in the same song!
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:47am Aitch:

Stones never did a record to compare with Revolver. Hand grenade thrown. For me as an aussie go to band(s) for Brit pop Kinks, Donovan et al
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:47am Mark R.:

Uh, that's Jeff with a ""--not eff!
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:47am Jennifer_PNW:

Agree 100% Mark R
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:48am Aitch:

Stooges, good lord. My big bro (I'm old) bought Funhouse new. Changed my world.
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:49am Jennifer_PNW:

I saw Yes 20 years ago. Not the greatest show ever but to a 17 year old prog stoner, I was stoked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:50am Mark R.:

That is quite a hand grenade, but I'll say what I'd say if I was running for office--honestly, I love both bands, and "Revolver" was a wonderful album, and so was "Let It Bleed," and they're very different and fabulous, each in their own way. Please vote for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 1:54am Mark R.:

I saw Yes on their "Going for the One" tour, the first one where Rick Wakeman rejoined the band, and it was everything I hoped it would be, right down to flowing sleeves and the waist-deep fog during the "Get Up Get Down" section of "Close to the Edge."
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 1:55am Aitch:

Jeff's still a gold darn hippy though whatever we think
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/26/17 2:00am coelacanth∅:

hahaha! the stones never did anything like rubber soul or abbey rd. either...or like fun house or relayer...but the beatles never did anything like beggar's banquet or sticky fingers; or forever changes or electric ladyland...
revolver is Great because the Great songs are Great - but...it's not all good! (in my ever so humble, but obviously invalid opinion!)
Avatar Mon. 6/26/17 2:03am Jennifer_PNW:

Mark R, that show sounds epic. Jealous! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/26/17 2:08am Mark R.:

I enjoyed it--I was just the right age (late teens); Donovan opened (he actually had a brand new record out), and I expected to hate him, but I loved his set, too!
