A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 28 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. [On hiatus.] (Visit homepage.)

Favoriting June 28, 2017: (Show #311) Whatever Happens Will Happen Again

A lost episode of Kenzo's from 2004 (from the Austin years), never published or rebroadcast prior to today's debut.

Originally created live on KOOP radio in Austin, TX, on May 1, 2004.

Relive that place and moment in time, complete with ridiculous phone callers, in this dazzlingly complex and absurd environmentally immersive and once live improvised sound collage.

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I'll be observing a temporary vow of comment silence today.

Please make up for it for me: Lead lively sound-collage-inspired conversations, have profound revelations, spark a revolution, and send love.

Barry Bliss:

Namaste.

Yay! I've never been to Austin.
After this show I expect my tolerence for super hot chilis to be vastly amped up.

Heya Kenzo and all! Sounds like "Lawyers in Love" is poking its way through there.

fred:

Lively conversation, profound revelation, revolution, and love? Uh, sorry, I just blundered here after hearing Please Call Stella (accent.gmu.edu). Thought it was Kenny G. I'll show myself out

Another interesting link Fred, thanks for posting.

Looks like Kenny G was first: wfmu.org...

I'm playing the Kenny G Stella-fest at the same time as this show

Well, I finally got a job, and one that I actually want, doing what I want, living where I want (well, except nyc, but leaving nyc was part of the plan). It only took all year.

I keep trying to dismiss Paul McCartney, and then stuff like this happens.

@NGH: Wonderful news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm

Stuff like this makes it much easier for me to dismiss Paul McCartney.

Congrats, ngh!

Thanks fred & james. Just found out. Now, I just need to figure out how to move.

So it's not the one could bike to? Where is it?

hi all

melinda:

I grew up in Austin and moved away permanently around '91. If KOOP was around in the 80s I didn't know about it.
Avatar 5:47pm
northguineahills:

It's in Gainesville. I'm mostly in Jacksonville where my stuff is (I still also have stuff in Brooklyn), The office is on the outskirts of town, so, it's a rather long bike ride from where most of the town is located.

fred:

@NGH: Well, there will be plenty of time to bitch about the drawbacks later. Enjoy the moment!

Gary:

Hey, congrats on the job, NGH! That's terrific

Gainesville is quite the groovy college town, I hear

I have to bail out and go to sleep. I really enjoyed it when Kenny's Stella overlapped with yours. I hope you don't mind my playing another show on top of yours. I just couldn't resist: this was one of my fave Kenny G shows

Barry Bliss:

How often do you think about not working anymore?
Avatar 6:18pm
northguineahills:

Yeah Gary. Plenty to do, but it still has a small town feel. Housing is cheap, variety of cheap restaurants, galleries, music venues, bars, etc. I even saw more record stores there then when I went to college there 20 years ago.

@fred: I might be mistaken, but my "Please Call Stella" show happened earlier than Kenny G's (one night before the show you're hearing now). lastever.org...

This era is the one by i was introduced to the show five years ago, choosing one from the archives! it does often bring a speechlessness! Aspects of its depth (in this era and of course others!) provide a lozenge of tremendous truth!
