The Bumpus hounds of commitment stole the big juicy show time right off the table of my earlier evening! Now swearing big gibberish! I will happily eat some of what's being served here for a little while.

Engelbuddy, wave The Last Schmaltz for me!
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:10pm Funky16Corners:

The Last Schmaltz should be made into an epic documentary with a cast of easy listening stars
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:16pm Gary:

How did I not know the Soft Cell was a cover?
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:17pm Funky16Corners:

The Gloria Jones is a HUGE Northern Soul record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/7/17 10:20pm Parq:

She and Marc Bolen had an encounter with a tree. The tree won.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:21pm Gary:

Ah, I'm guessing that's how SC first heard it?
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:25pm Funky16Corners:

I heard that Marc Almond was a soulie in his days before Soft Cell
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:26pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Parq! She and Bolan had a son together I believe.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:26pm Gary:

I first heard that song in San Francisco in late 1983 or 84 and assumed it was (a) an original and (b) responding to the AIDS crisis
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/7/17 10:28pm Parq:

I remember the Marc Almond Band from the mid 70s, but they didn't make much of an impression on me.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:28pm Funky16Corners:

Differnt guy. That was Mark Almond, Johnny Mark and I forget who Almond
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:29pm Funky16Corners:

Gary - I wonder if there was an intentional subtext in the SC cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/7/17 10:30pm Parq:

Ohhh. Gary, now it's my turn to admit what I never knew.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:30pm Funky16Corners:

Uh oh...
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:30pm still b/p:

The Soft Cell "official" video for Tainted Love....well, I just watched it...and....well....I feel a little tainted myself. And bemused. And making a gesture that says what the f and why the f. Ohhhh, them early burps of the video boom.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:33pm Funky16Corners:

It's amazing having lived through that and come all the way out on the other side. I wonder what it all must look like to kids today?
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:36pm Funky16Corners:

Hey, somebody cues up the wrong song...cough
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:38pm Gary:

I always thought there was, Larry, but I just looked it up and SC released their version in 1981, so I'm guessing not
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:39pm Funky16Corners:

It works that way though. Prescient?
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Hitting the spot like a mini-sledge to a roofing brad. Blammo blammo blammo goes Testify!
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:41pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doug!
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:43pm Gary:

I mean, the single was that b/w "Where Did Our Love Go?" ... so, yes, totally
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:51pm still b/p:

Back to the vids: Once videos started to rise out of awful, all kinds of credit was bestowed, strangely. I know budgets matter, but still, they didn't have to be THAT awful. I wondered at the time why SO damn many were so damn goofy or so hamfisted, awkward and primitive in concepts and production approaches, aside from budget constraints. Simple attentions to examples from unhidden sources all around could've bumped up the class and creativity, eased the crudeness and cock-eyed conventions. This, this I would pontificate to the kids looking back today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/7/17 10:52pm Parq:

Is Larry breaking up or is it my player?
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:53pm Gary:

Sounds okay here
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 10:59pm Funky16Corners:

As far as I can tell I've had a steady signal on this end
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/7/17 11:02pm Parq:

Must be on my end then. Never mind, time for a late dinner.

Love the hell out of this music.

Avatar    Wed. 6/7/17 11:10pm geezerette:

Psychedelic music brings back visions of kerosene lamps on crocheted lace table cloths, antique tables and chairs, crystal pendants hanging in stained glass windows, Moroccan leather wool lined coats and a widespread belief that you could live in the previous century simply by pretending, that things would be better there. I had a lot of older friends who lived in various canyons. They were glamorous and crazy in equal measure. I was never a hippy, but some of my best friends...
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:11pm Funky16Corners:

I mean, thank you on behalf of the Everly Brothers
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:13pm Funky16Corners:

Geezerette - There are so many varieties, and I love them all
Avatar    Wed. 6/7/17 11:13pm geezerette:

Me too. :)
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:15pm still b/p:

Love the boomp-boodoomp beat so strong in the Everly mix. Wonder if someone had to argue for it.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:15pm Funky16Corners:

That's an amazing album
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Is that Hal Blaine boomp-boodoomping on drums with the Everlys? Dennis Diken just published a feature on Blaine and a terrific interview, both in Modern Drummer (online).

Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:19pm Funky16Corners:

I wouldn't be at all surprised
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:23pm still b/p:

Paul Young. Was looking....I thought there was a much more familiar version when I heard Waylon...didn't know who, and still don't know. Not the Four Preps.
Avatar    Wed. 6/7/17 11:26pm geezerette:

Nudie's suits?
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:26pm Funky16Corners:

Yes, suits by Nudie Cohen, the great western tailor
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:27pm Funky16Corners:

Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:28pm Funky16Corners:

Cohn not Cohen
Avatar    Wed. 6/7/17 11:33pm geezerette:

After his shop closed his daughter opened a coffee shop decorated with photos of Nudie with stars proudly wearing clothes he'd made for them. I see it's moving to Nashville, started in North Hollywood's Valley Village. Thanks for link!
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:34pm Funky16Corners:

You're welcome!
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:38pm still b/p:

"Rodeo Tailor" surely should make a good song title/topic. I'm thinking someone surely shoulda....and someone did: Eddie Jo Downs.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:39pm Funky16Corners:

A unique occupation!
Avatar    Wed. 6/7/17 11:39pm geezerette:

S B/P, gotta look that up! :)
Avatar    Wed. 6/7/17 11:42pm geezerette:

Larry, been smiling for nearly two hours solid. Great show man.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:44pm Funky16Corners:

Thank you!
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:50pm still b/p:

A couple weeks ago, listened several times to original God Only Knows. If I'm going to sing it in private with a terrible weak falsetto, I finally wanted the notes of the darn sung melody line correct.

Nudie born in Ukraine. Some of that colorful art influence seen in the designs?
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:52pm Funky16Corners:

That's very likely with Nudie. I'd never considered that!
Avatar    Wed. 6/7/17 11:57pm geezerette:

Yes, S B/P,,that really makes sense! Never made that connection either.
Avatar Wed. 6/7/17 11:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Deeply magnif effort, Larry.
Avatar    Thu. 6/8/17 12:00am geezerette:

What Doug said.
Avatar Thu. 6/8/17 12:02am still b/p:

Fine show every angle. Thanks!
Avatar Thu. 6/8/17 12:02am Funky16Corners:
