Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

  Fri. 6/2/17 12:28pm Listener Gregory:

Indulging in pedantry,I imagine that the label misspelled Gregg's name with TWO g's, not one. Unless they spelled it Gre. I hate it when that happens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 6/2/17 12:32pm Uncle Michael:

You make a point, re.
Avatar Fri. 6/2/17 12:32pm Funky16Corners:

This is one of those records that (like the Lovin' Spoonful's 'Six O'Clock') where the vocal sounds like it was recorded at the end of long night and several takes.

The car repair shop where we get oil changes, etc., also services Duane's daughter's car. True fact.

As far as I can tell the Hour Glass version of 'Power of Love' is the only one. Penn may have recorded a version himself much later on, but nothing contemporary to the Hour Glass
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 6/2/17 12:59pm annie:

I wonder if speedy was playing the Bigsby that Deke Dickerson just acquired from the Hall of Fame and is getting restored (my codriver wanted to chat so I'm playing catch up, looking forward to the hillbilly set, awesome as usual)

The folk art museum is cool. All of museum hill is.
Avatar    Fri. 6/2/17 2:18pm geezerette:

New Mexico is practically another country. I'd trade L.A. for Santa Fe if I could.
Yes UM! The Folk Art Museum, everyone should see that! We haven't been in so long, don't even know what else is up there.

I'm a Puddles fan.

I don't know them but will definitely look into them. This Big Star song is really nice too. Great show, UM!

It's a him. He's a 6'8" mute clown...till he sings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 6/2/17 2:31pm doctorjazz:

We're in "soft cover version" territory, nice stuff (not familiar with the Puddles either).

If you saw that viral video a few weeks back, with the clown singing "Pinball Wizard" to the tune of "Folsom Prison Blues," that's Puddles.
Avatar    Fri. 6/2/17 2:34pm geezerette:

wow, Louie could croon!
Avatar Fri. 6/2/17 2:35pm Lane Gray:

JP, I associate Folsom Pinball with Bill Kirchen
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 6/2/17 2:35pm Uncle Michael:

Puddles definitely got that from Kirchen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 6/2/17 2:36pm Parq:

Never heard that Jordan version of "Down and Out". Not sure, come to think of it, that I've ever heard him do a down-tempo number.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 6/2/17 2:37pm Uncle Michael:

Right, Parq?
Avatar    Fri. 6/2/17 2:38pm geezerette:

Parq, UM, surprise to me! That was beautiful.
Avatar    Fri. 6/2/17 2:39pm JP from KC:

That explains why it seemed so familiar when I saw the video. I guess I had just forgotten the original. Never knew where I heard it or who did it, I just felt like I'd heard it before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 6/2/17 2:39pm doctorjazz:

Definitely "Disco Heaven"
