True to your word, a long Sun Ra recording right out of the gate!
  Mon. 5/22/17 3:24am Mark R:

Yep. Your friend's tribute is Tuesday night on WRIU, do I have the call letters right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 3:29am joeray:

Yes, Gordon Forman is the DJ, but it airs from 8-10am on WRIU 90.3 or wriu.org Archives are available but only for 2 weeks. One of the differences of "college radio" compared to WFMU!
  Mon. 5/22/17 3:30am Mark R:

Cool, well, now people know where to tune in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 3:35am listener james from westwood:

w00t! First time I'm hearing the show live! Ridiculous work deadline has me awake at 3 and how great to wake to Ra!
  Mon. 5/22/17 3:36am Mark R:

Thanks for tuning in, James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 3:52am listener james from westwood:

Kate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 3:55am joeray:

"Meat/Light" is a three cd set. It features the original Uncle Meat, a somewhat different running order version with some different tracks and mix by FZ and Dick Kunc, and a disc full of unreleased tracks from the Uncle Meat sessions.Highly recommended!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 4:22am listener james from westwood:

Kate Bush and Diamanda Galas, two artists who I first encountered in college and who are their own ground-up phenomena.
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:23am Mark R:

Believe it or not, I only recently discovered Diamanda Glass, from hearing her on FMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 4:25am listener james from westwood:

Excellent! Always something new to learn thru the station!
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:26am Hippie Jesus:

From Diamanda Galas to Elton John......and it works so well!
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:27am Mark R:

Thanks for tuning in, Jesus! Glad you're enjoying...
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:34am Mark R:

The producer of "Madman Across the Water" was Gus Dudgeon, in case you were losing sleep over it. I should have known that--he did all the early Elton John albums.
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:36am Hippie Jesus:

@Mark R I'm down along the bottom of the map, closer to the Gulf Of Mexico than I am the Sabine River (Texas side)
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:40am Mark R:

Cool, Jesus--I'm assuming it's starting to get rather steamy down there (talking about the weather!)
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:45am Hippie Jesus:

74' at 0345 in the morning. The humidity is high and Hell is around the corner (July & August). Weatherman says we will drop to the upper 50's on Thursday, which will be cooler that we were on Christmas
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 4:45am listener james from westwood:

Second Rhyton track I've starred at some point.
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:46am Mark R:

Those cool days are a relief down there, I'm sure. James, I really like these guys--a lot of interesting sounds...
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:53am Hippie Jesus:

James Newton Howard and Paul Buckmaster reworked Elton's, Madman Across The River, for his performance with the 88 piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra back July 87......almost 30 years ago.
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:55am Mark R:

Wow, sounds interesting--I mean, the string section was already there, right? Paul Buckmaster's a genius.
  Mon. 5/22/17 4:57am Hippie Jesus:

Thanks for playing my song :)
  Mon. 5/22/17 5:04am Hippie Jesus:

Buckmaster is a Genius, you can hear his influence all over the reworking of so many Elton classics for that live album: The King Must Die, Have Mercy On The Criminal and Burn Down The Mission, are my favorites.
  Mon. 5/22/17 5:05am Mark R:

I remember he did the strings on "Sway," and I've got this foggy memory of him working with Miles Davis, although I might be mixed up about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 5:32am Scraps:

Love Greg Brown. If you haven't heard his way earlier album 44 & 66, you must, really.

Did you know he's Iris DeMent's husband?
Avatar    Mon. 5/22/17 5:38am Sem Chumbo:

No foreign sound to this ear. Good morning, Mark, and all.
  Mon. 5/22/17 5:40am Mark R:

Morning Scraps and Sem. I'll have to check that album out, and no, I didn't know about Iris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 5:50am Scraps:

He's very good live too, very funny. Lots of songs that haven't got recorded. Very prolific, apparently. One Night is a really good live album (CD has many more tracks).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 5/22/17 5:57am listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Mark!
