@LJFW - i saw your comment on the Boom-Boom board (after the fact) re: Kid Koala/Charlie Brown - did you find the track?

Hi! The packagings look nice!
Avatar 12:07pm

Hey, JtotheK!

Yes, Thom is always fun -- glad you enjoyed! I'll let him know....

In! Hey, Tony!
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Hi, Yvang! Yes, the La 1919 cassette in particular is nice-looking....
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola, Nick S.!

Tony Coulter:

I may go to hell for this, but I decided to fiddle with the channels for this Sleaze Art tape. I'm boosting the right channel, as it seemed too weak to me -- but who knows ... maybe that's the way it was supposed to be.....
Avatar 12:15pm
Tony Coulter:

Channel imbalance is a big problem with a lot of cassettes. Sometimes it's the unavoidable result of a limited recording setup -- other times it develops during the dubbing process.
Avatar 12:16pm
Tony Coulter:

This track on now is live, btw....
Avatar 12:21pm
Tony Coulter:

Can anyone ID the LP underneath today's cassettes? I'll be super-impressed if you can.....
Avatar 🥁 12:22pm
Nick S.:

Don't have a clue. I like the colors, though.
Avatar 12:24pm
Ozkär Krapö:

Oh Sleaze Art. Featuring El Mofo... which was later in Blutt, a Parisian band... he's still doing a lot of mastering nowadays.
Avatar 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Ozkär Krapö! Have never heard of Blutt -- are they worth investigating?
Avatar 12:26pm
Tony Coulter:

Today's mystery LP jacket is: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 12:27pm
Mayuko:

This Sleaze Art is beautiful.
Avatar 12:28pm
Ozkär Krapö:

well... maybe not exactly your cup of tea. but their 3 singles were crude and sophisticated kind of garage-punk... raw as a dirty needle
Avatar 12:28pm
Tony Coulter:

Hi, Mayuko!! Nice to see you here....
Avatar 12:32pm
Tony Coulter:

The track on now is live. Two of the four tracks on this tape are live -- hence the title, "Half Alive."
Avatar 12:45pm
Cecile:

Hola!
Avatar 12:45pm
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Cecile!
Avatar 12:49pm
Cecile:

how goes it?
Avatar 12:50pm
Tony Coulter:

It's going ... somewhere....
  12:59pm
Dean:

No little Richard Pinhas influence here.
Avatar 1:01pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Dean! There are also Henry Kaiser and Fred Frith influences, I'd say....
  1:05pm
Dean:

It is fitting that the "Alexia" tune prompts a typo in the album title.
Avatar 1:06pm
Tony Coulter:

Not a typo -- it's eye-talian.
  1:06pm
Dean:

I see.
Avatar 1:08pm
Tony Coulter:

er, actually now I get you: fixed. I put too much trust in auto-fill.
  1:10pm
Dean:

And here I thought you were punning the lapsed letter!
Avatar 1:10pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, let's pretend that's what I was doing.
Avatar 1:38pm
Cecile:

this should be re-issued.
Avatar 1:38pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, it should be. Seems to be really obscure.
Avatar 1:39pm
Cecile:

it would fit in to the sounds the kids like today, too.
Avatar 1:41pm
Tony Coulter:

Lots of nice Beefheart-style action, for sure....
Avatar 1:49pm
Cecile:

that is Kaiser's solo note for note from The Golden Palominos "Omaha" - released 2-3 years later!
Avatar 1:50pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, I think he used these recordings to try out lots of ideas. The disjointed quality is actually kind of fun.....
Avatar 1:51pm
Cecile:

Well, that was a hell of an idea. I'm glad he ended up using it!
Avatar 2:00pm
Tony Coulter:

and ... here's the cover of Beefheart's "Alice in Blunderland"
Avatar 2:27pm
Ozkär Krapö:

it's really cool to have the opportunity to listen to this rare cassette.
Avatar 2:29pm
Tony Coulter:

Glad you're enjoying it, Ozkär! All the Mystery Tapes releases are quite hard to come by....
Avatar 2:30pm
Ozkär Krapö:

There are a lot of good things in it... Cecile is right, a reissue would be a good idea.
Avatar 2:38pm
Tony Coulter:

These Tape Hiss shows are good for making me listen to my own damn cassettes. Before planning today's show, I hadn't heard this tape in years. I'm glad I revisited it.....
Avatar 2:42pm
Chris from DC:

Catching the tail end of this Kaiser tape. Nice.
