Ridgewood Radio features live sets by adventurous bands and experimental musicians, recorded at clubs and galleries running along the L-train corridor through Brooklyn and Queens from Williamsburg to the Rockaways. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the blossoming Ridgewood neighborhood, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Hi Ruth and David, and other folks out there!
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 3:14pm weinstein:

Doctor Jazz I have a good one for you special today. Gospel of Mars. coming next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/29/17 3:17pm doctorjazz:

This Tom Chiu and Michael Schumacher is quite fine, drifts into free jazz territory at times.
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 3:23pm fred:

Good afternoon David, Ruth, james and doctorjazz.
Is that the Gospel of Mars that features Aaron Moore?
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 3:25pm weinstein:

Welcome! It is A Moore indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/29/17 3:31pm doctorjazz:

We're definitely in my territory here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/29/17 3:38pm doctorjazz:

Really fine date!
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 3:39pm fred:

@doctorjazz: My territory too. Well, musically; geographically this seems like a long shot. Though I suggested to a friend he should try to play with Aaron Moore and Quentin Rollet (he has recorded with both) and he liked the idea...

In case I raced past it, Gospel of Mars at Pianos NYC March 30
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/29/17 3:47pm doctorjazz:

Be nice to make it. Not to bad for me territorially (though Manhattan is such a pain).
  Wed. 3/29/17 3:58pm Dean:

Brown's guitar has the quality of microtonal Carnatic music. Like the mandolin of U. Srinivas.
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 3:59pm weinstein:

As we say in Queens, when the L train shuts down, that'll be the end of Manhattan!
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:01pm weinstein:

Che Chen has that microtonal guitar thing too, based on non-Western scales, and maybe that's why he likes this band so much??!!!
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:04pm fred:

Speaking of unconventional tuning, a guy at work once told me a composer he worked with compared a bunch of soft drink brands, to know which cans made the best sound when crushed
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/29/17 4:07pm doctorjazz:

Great Guitar!
Closest thing I've heard was Nels Cline recently, also gets some amazing sounds out of that thing.
Avatar Wed. 3/29/17 4:08pm 75 Dollar William:

Greetings, Ridgematarians!
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:10pm weinstein:

Whose hiding under that curly wig?
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:11pm weinstein:

Fred, as an unreformed sound effects junkie I can sympathize with the soda jerk. Some things have that little extra magic but you have to do the time!
Avatar Wed. 3/29/17 4:18pm Post no Williams:

This radio show is like having a front-row seat to the coolest shows in town. That's pretty wonderful.
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:23pm weinstein:

Is there a keyboard shortcut that just says "aw shucks" or maybe I should start using emojis to talk to "Williams" ...
Avatar Wed. 3/29/17 4:27pm William E. Moji:

Own it, Weinstein. And Ruth.
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:28pm weinstein:

In case I don't have time to gab about this... David Grubbs is giving a talk for the Musical Ecologies series, with Dan Joseph, tonight in Prospect Park. Grubbs wrote "Records Ruin the Landscape".
Avatar Wed. 3/29/17 4:38pm Will.I.Am.:

Devouring Grubbs in Prospect Park. Sounds like a plan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/29/17 4:40pm doctorjazz:

Like the time shift, makes for a great Wednesday line up.
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:41pm weinstein:

We are delighted with the 3pm thing and love having Mary Wing in front. Like we've discussed, a move from late coffee to early cocktails!
Avatar Wed. 3/29/17 4:44pm northguineahills:

Thanks for sets, gotta skidoodle!
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:44pm weinstein:

Oh yeah, Grubbs is also performing at this (and his name must sound pretty in some language, "Will")
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:44pm weinstein:

Soon again, thanks!
Avatar Wed. 3/29/17 4:45pm northguineahills:

Isn't Grubbs still a prof at Brooklyn College?
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:46pm weinstein:

He is teaching there yes.
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:53pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi David, I had my sound down in anticipation of a call which still hasn't come in. I'll have to catch the show in the archives! But I like this end bit!
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:56pm weinstein:

Thanks. These things usually get archived by the end of the day (because the FMU crew is totally on it, shout out to Jeff Moore).
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:56pm fred:

Thanks as usual, David. I'll miss next week's show: Les Filles de Illighadad are in town
Avatar    Wed. 3/29/17 4:56pm weinstein:

Thanks, Fred. Enjoy!
