Hello Henry - the summer time here neatly coincided with summerly weather - long may it reign!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 4:16pm Webhamster Henry:

I need to take one of those Internet Quizzes to find out which German City I "am".

Hello David and David-ites!

I'm Baden-Baden!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 4:47pm David D:

Welcome to Leipzig, Baden-Baden!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 4:48pm Scraps:

Than you! I'm a spa-town, he said proudly
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 4:48pm doctorjazz:

This is Yiddish, no? (my Yiddish is pretty rusty).
Love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 4:50pm David D:

That was indeed Yiddish (more later?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 4:52pm doctorjazz:

Love to hear more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 4:53pm David D:

All towns welcome here, spa, ska, ski...
Avatar Tue. 3/28/17 4:57pm still b/p:

Su-Su-Su-Su-Su-Su-Sugartown?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 4:59pm doctorjazz:

There's still a lot of Klezmer in Europe?
Are there many Yiddish speakers around?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 5:00pm doctorjazz:

(that's a silly question, there is Klezmer in the US, though I don't think there are many Yiddish speakers here).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 5:00pm doctorjazz:

It's a bit like the Blues revival.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:04pm David D:

Yes, a lot of Klez-vival here in Germany, with workshops and the like. I know there is a big one in Weimar each summer (another good town to choose to be). Not a large number of Yiddish-speakers, I'm afraid. Although a woman once did randomly ask me directions in Yiddish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:06pm David D:

Wow, Time really was the thief at the end of the Bread, Love, and Dreams track
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:07pm Scraps:

Maddy Prior is so distinctive. You can hear her in one second
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:08pm David D:

Still b/p - still at the top of my page - welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:08pm David D:

Maddy is the best!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 5:20pm doctorjazz:

My parents were Yiddish speakers, can understand a bit, took lessons at one point, but never practiced enough to actually be able to speak.
  Tue. 3/28/17 5:23pm Mark R:

Man, that Renata Lú track was smokin'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:24pm David D:

doctorjazz: Passive knowledge is already a great advantage. I wonder if you can also understand some German then, the similarities are extensive, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:26pm David D:

Yes indeed, Mark R!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:31pm Parq:

Great Latin set. A simple conversation about Santana with a co-worker last Friday started me on a Latin-music journey that lasted all weekend. May I heartily recommend Trueba "Calle 54" to anyone who hasn't seen it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:32pm David D:

Thanks, Parq -I'll cue one more up then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 5:33pm doctorjazz:

I do recognize some German words as well, lots of Yiddish comes from German (and Hebrew, and whatever else was spoken in the area.
Also loving the latin set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 5:34pm Parq:

Also, for real nerds on the subject (como yo), "The Latin Tinge" by John Roberts is well worth the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 5:44pm doctorjazz:

The Latin Tinge was what Jelly Roll Morton said he brought into jazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 3/28/17 5:58pm doctorjazz:

Gotta run, catch you next time, thanks for the fine show, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 6:02pm David D:

Thanks for listening, doctorjazz!
Avatar Tue. 3/28/17 6:47pm Doug Schulkind:

@Parq
John Storm Roberts is one of my heroes.

Greetings, David D and all Subwayfarers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 6:48pm David D:

Good evenmorning, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 6:50pm Parq:

Doug, have you seen Calle 54? Not only is the move great, but the DVD includes a "Side B" feature-length interview program about the history of Latin jazz in the US and Latin America. You (Doug) probably know much of the info already, but I think you would still really enjoy it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 6:51pm Parq:

David, that Shura L. was astonishingly lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 6:52pm David D:

Agreed, Parq, I just recently discovered her and she is fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 6:52pm Webhamster Henry:

I'd say! Here are the lyrics, transliterated, translated and in Yiddish orthography.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 6:54pm Parq:

There's a duet of "In Time" with Dean Martin and Judy Holiday that's just wonderful. I discovered it via Monica (natch).
Avatar Tue. 3/28/17 6:58pm Doug Schulkind:

@Parq
Saw it ages ago. Would love to do so again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 7:00pm David D:

Thanks everyone for listening -all the best from Leipzig!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 7:00pm Parq:

Great, great show, David. So good to have you along for my Tuesday evening stints at my desk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 3/28/17 7:01pm Webhamster Henry:
