Doug: I realize that I point out the coincidences between my life & your programming all the time, but…just last night I was going through records to sell at the FMU fair & I pulled out the Jumping on the Hill LP on Policy Wheel. I thought, there’s no way I can sell this, it has “Squinch Owl Moan!”

Not familiar with Catherine Irwin, but she has one of those voices that gets under your skin (in a good way). A bit like Iris Dement (in feel, not so much that I'd confuse them).

Brand new one from Alasdair Roberts, coming up!
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 10:12am Doug Schulkind:

I know of one dog in England that does not like Iris DeMent's voice. I disagree with that pup. Catherine Irwin is one half of the duo Freakwater, with Janet Bean.

What is a "Tettet," other than a palindrome?
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 10:45am Doug Schulkind:

@Dave in Vermont
The best part about the freakout is the chocolate chip cookie bingeing. Because chocolate chip cookies.

@Jeff Golick
I hope you didn't find the tettet offensive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 10:46am David D:

Good day, Doug and all!

The Tettet is definitely music to freak out by - don't know if I could write a paper to it, though. The name of the track is inventive as well.
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 10:46am Flash Strap:

I can basically only write to Debussy, Satie, and field recordings of rain and water... any other kind of work, if there's not music playing I languish! I anguish!

yeah 64 doesn't even sound true. I couldn't believe it when I realized what I had coming. I went through all the stages of grief. and that was just the prologue to getting a masters, which required a lotta scribblin as well

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:08am Scraps:

Basically, yes. But often, not much. (Sometimes, are.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:11am Scraps:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:12am doctorjazz:

Much of the time at home I'm listening to music I don't know (as I wind up listening to stuff I've purchased after hearing it here or reading about it). So, not really.
I do need to have some music playing, may not be able to really focus if I'm doing something else, but still need it around. I go nuts if it's not playing.

You are speaking of the amazing Record Mart store. It was in the Times Square subway stop complex. You actually had to pay a token (back when they still had subway tokens) to get in the subway in order get tot he store. I probably purchase 200 salsa records at that place.

Greetings, Theo In The Netherlands!! Yes, I read that news earlier. Misha was a wonder. Glad you joined the conversation!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:42am Scraps:

We are ALERTLY trying. ;-)
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:44am Doug Schulkind:

Remain alert. America needs more lerts.
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:44am Flash Strap:

good point Scraps, though I think the pleasure we try to get from music is less about being comfortable than discovering the ecstatic, sublime, or being awakened to/shown something, that sort of thing. in that way, even "comfort" music does something far more complex to you than a pacification or numbing effect
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:45am Doug Schulkind:

Hope no one's allergic to tomatoes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:45am Scraps:

Not sleepily trying, comfortywumforty trying
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:45am JtotheK:

Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:48am Flash Strap:

I'm still too sleepy to be writing such long-ass comments! I recuse myself from here on out

right on Scraps

A week holiday behind and Im still beat. Hey Doug and hey all.
Fri. 3/3/17 11:49am Theo In The Netherlands:

should have scrolled back, should have known it was probably earlier known by your listeners, and your part of the world than in mine. Your playlist is always an inspiration, not able to listen live most of the time
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

Earlier this set we heard from Lois Lane. How about some Superman?!

@Flash Strap
Never stop sleepwriting!

Howdy, mauri!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:50am Uncle Michael:

No matter what I type into my playlist, it comes out "Daisy, Daisy...give me your answer, do..."

Algorithm, schmalgorithm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:50am Scraps:

Lying down now. Language hard. Cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:50am Brian in UK:

@Carmichael, I thought that when I wrote it. Do you want fries with that comment.
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:50am Flash Strap:

Superman please
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

It's great to jump in whenever with whatever you want to say. You can't assume that others have scrolled back either.
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:52am still b/p:

Just want to take a moment to thank the Drummer stream for being a gateway drug. After Bodega Pop the other night, a Dickie Wells track came on but was interrupted for me. I went to find it on the YouTubes, and listened quite happily for a while to the autoplay series they fed me of Dickie and others. This operation here is a springboardin', catalyzin', path-marking sumbitch, y'know? "Gimme gimme good nudgin', every ni-ight!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:52am JtotheK:

will we hear the sensational guitars of dan and dale performing "robin's theme" (flip of batman theme) next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:52am Brian in UK:

Thanks Doug, very nervous for the marafun this year.
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:53am Doug Schulkind:

still b/p is speaking truth to power, babies.
  Fri. 3/3/17 11:54am Dean:

I rely on logarithms to recommend artists. That's why I currently have about 33,554,432 records still unsealed in a "must hear" pile.
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:54am Doug Schulkind:

JtotheK, I like the way you think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:55am Brian in UK:

On Irwin's premium recently, the Tom Wilson special, there was Robin doing a number, when I say number I mean a kind of song.
Avatar    Fri. 3/3/17 11:55am Webhamster Henry:

The Bee Gees done right!
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:55am Doug Schulkind:

Pretty damn lovely Gibb Brothers cover here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:56am Uncle Michael:

I think I could do six hours of covers of this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:56am Stanley:

UM - that'll have all in tears!
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:58am Doug Schulkind:

I think maybe you have, Uncle Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/3/17 11:58am Stanley:

*us* (I really don't know what's wrong with me today)
Avatar Fri. 3/3/17 11:58am Doug Schulkind:

Nothing is wrong, Stanley. Don't change a thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/3/17 11:59am Uncle Michael:
