Ridgewood Radio features live sets by adventurous bands and experimental musicians, recorded at clubs and galleries running along the L-train corridor through Brooklyn and Queens from Williamsburg to the Rockaways. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the blossoming Ridgewood neighborhood, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Listener comments!

howdy, David and Ruth and Denman and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 2:08pm northguineahills:

I'm probably the only person who is rather adverse to the venue, The Stone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 2:13pm northguineahills:

I should clarify, I'm not into the rarified air they try to enforce w/ no beverages (not even coffee). Music should be part of culture, w/ people being people, and enjoying sound as a part of the every day. Not, as a something to be ogled in a cultural vacuum as if it were in a museum, devoid of human context.

(I need either caffeine or alcohol to sit in the dark when taking in a show). I can at least bring in either at the Unitarian Church in dowtown Brooklyn.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:14pm weinstein:

We have heard this before. It is a fair gripe.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:14pm weinstein:

James, welcome always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 2:23pm Webhamster Henry:

The Stone is closing next year anyway, so maybe on the last days, you can walk in with some coffee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 2:26pm northguineahills:

Now, I just need to get my arse back up to NYC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 2:26pm doctorjazz:

Hi all!
I'm sorry to hear about The Stone, will need to get there this year while it's still around.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:27pm geezerette:

Hey David!
Hiya, W Henry,NGH, James!
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:28pm geezerette:

..docjazz!
  Wed. 3/1/17 2:30pm Dean:

Just in, sorry to have missed the Maroney/Rothenberg, not least because CIMP is such a wonderful label, both in terms of programming and production. Marc Rusch is a master engineer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 2:31pm fred:

Good afternoon David, Ruth and Ridgewood denizens
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:33pm weinstein:

Hey everybody! Watch your news feeds today about the closing (or...?) of The Stone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 2:38pm Webhamster Henry:

I wonder if Mr. Maroney knows about the work of Kevin Hobby on making piano strings have inharmonic partials on purpose so as to "harmonize" with unusual scales like 10EDO.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 2:45pm doctorjazz:

? News Feed? WFMU home page? Elsewhere?
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:46pm weinstein:

We are tracking down Hobby info. Denman not familiar...
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:46pm weinstein:

Elsewhere.
  Wed. 3/1/17 2:50pm Dean:

Profane Oratorio?! Splendid. Just two nights ago I listened to P.D.Q. Bach's "Hansel and Gretel and Ted and Alice, An opera in one unnatural act."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 2:50pm fred:

Here, for instance: www.thestonenyc.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 2:53pm doctorjazz:

That one I've previously seen, that's the one that says The Stone is closing in a year. Just reacting to David's (or...?) part of his 2:33 post...
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:56pm geezerette:

So interesting. Terrific interview.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 2:57pm geezerette:

(Love P.D.Q. Bach too.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 3:01pm doctorjazz:

What a great sounding piece, just loving it!
  Wed. 3/1/17 3:06pm Dean:

'nother great label, Clean Feed. And Victo above. And Tomato, especially Townes' double live LP from Houston. That particular record puts the performer, TVZ himself, right there in the living room with you.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:06pm geezerette:

Yes, it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 3:07pm Webhamster Henry:

I concur - this is really good!
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:14pm weinstein:

I'm enjoying all these links and tips and tracking it all down with one hand and keeping the radio flow going with the other.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:15pm weinstein:

Denman Stone days are 14-19 March and his website is denmanmaroney.com. Simple.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:16pm weinstein:

Shelley Hirsch makes an appearance! on this Optimist piece...
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:20pm weinstein:

Denman would like to compliment Dean with thanks for some cool thoughts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 3:21pm doctorjazz:

Fine labels, as Dean has commented. Just love this stuff. Have to check out the Townes record, have quite a few of his (and saw him, Bottom Line, if I recall correctly), that sounds very appealing.
  Wed. 3/1/17 3:24pm Dean:

Please *do* get to Bleckmann later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 3:27pm Webhamster Henry:

There's clearly a vocabulary collapse going on in the experimental piano world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 3:28pm fred:

Does Denman have any plans to play in (or near) Paris? I'd love to hear him live
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:34pm weinstein:

He was at the Eglise de St. Merry in October but nothing on the horizon.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:34pm weinstein:

I found an old Bleckmann tape in the Roulette archive that I am curious to show side by side with his new stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 3:38pm fred:

Damn, St Merry is across the street from where I work
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:40pm weinstein:

Denman is reshuffling our playlist here so we squeeze in the Bleckmann!
  Wed. 3/1/17 3:41pm Dean:

Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 3:45pm Webhamster Henry:

WFMU is all request now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 3/1/17 3:46pm northguineahills:

Liking the Maroney/Tamnen, reminds of a runaway 40s era Cage prepared piano rolling downhil.
Wed. 3/1/17 3:48pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

Sorry I got here late. I will have to check archive. Loving what I have heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 3:49pm fred:

@Webhamster Henry: foreshadowing the Yo La Tengo special maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 3:51pm doctorjazz:

Checking The Stone schedule, this trio is playing Sunday 3/19.
Avatar Wed. 3/1/17 3:52pm weinstein:

3/15 and 3/19 as well.

Kurt Gottschalk leaked it on Facebook.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 4:04pm doctorjazz:

(not too much of a secret if the NY Times put it out, glad to hear it, though).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 3/1/17 4:05pm fred:

Thanks David and Denman
