Yahoo, it's the maestro of Monday evenings (and the rest of the week) Kim Sorise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 9:23am Scraps:

I've been trying to get into the blues and failing, for thirty-plus years. It's the same chord structure all the time. It's mostly predicable, and I can't get into that, not even the most brilliant playing and singing. I know this is my fault... sigh
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 9:23am βrian:

@Scraps: what kind of whisky are you listening with?
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 9:24am KimSorise:

Check's in the mail and so is the premium master. I'm diggin' the final product - hope the listeners do as well. Almost Marathon time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 9:24am Stanley:

I love the blues and I gladly put up with the guilt and shame.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 9:25am Andy in Etobicoke:

Have you tried Mississippi John Hurt?
A fine gateway blues artist. Just a suggestion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 9:25am Scraps:

Right now nothin'. Sometimes Wild Turkey 100 (it's what I have at home).

Oh, you weren't serious?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 9:27am Scraps:

Andy: yep.
It's like tea; I've tried lots, but it's still tea.

Excepting Lapsang souchong.

This one's chord structure is different. My ears perk up!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 9:32am Doug Schulkind:

Flash Strap, my brother in sonic bewilderment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/24/17 9:32am doctorjazz:

Going to have to drop "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" as my theme song if I keep this up...went to 2 fun shows this past week, Mostly Other People Do The Killing (who had Steve Bernstein on trumpet, who I'd see if he played for toddlers), and then at the Village Vanguard saw Dave Douglas (another GREAT trumpeter) with Joe Lovano in a Wayne Shorter-inspired group Soundprints (Joe Lovano is one of those players I KNOW I'm supposed to love more than I do-he is a great musician, but I was just waiting for Douglas to play at the show. My bad, I'm sure). Anyway, great live music week on this end!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 9:33am Scraps:

I know maybe people will blanch at the comparison, but this Waters could be Hendrix
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 9:34am Parq:

Doc, glad you'e having a good time. I'll be happy to take over that theme song from you if you like.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 9:34am Andy in Etobicoke:

Indeed! Lapsang souchong is ambrosia.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 9:36am Matt F:

If you really believe it's the "same chord structure all the time", I don't think you've actually tried all that hard to like the blues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 9:36am Scraps:

I was so happy when the Times referred to "Mr Loaf"

Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 9:43am Doug Schulkind:

I have it on good authority that the story of the NYT referring to Meat Loaf as "Mr. Loaf" is apocryphal. Which is too bad, because I used to cite that story all the damn time!

Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:00am Doug Schulkind:

I've always followed that bit of wisdom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:00am Carmichael:

Heya Doug, Jeff G, Flash S, Uncle M, Kim S and all the other professional non-professionals.

UM, what are you doing out here in California?!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:01am still b/p:

For someone who follows almost no baseball a'tall, I got good kick out of watching a compilation of intentional-walk overthrows, associated with a story on possible rule changes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:01am Uncle Michael:

We're spending a few days in Santa Monica at my father's request and expense.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:02am Dave in Vermont:

Does the bus stop here?
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:02am Listener Gregory:

I'm happy to listen to a song called "LSD," but the "alt" version is likely too much for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/24/17 11:02am doctorjazz:

Don't know about high, but I'm getting a bit dizzy and nauseous...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:02am Carmichael:

What a great Dad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:03am Uncle Michael:

He'll do.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:03am Doug Schulkind:

Not sure if you did, Alex in Illinois. Please divulge!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:03am Little Danny:

  Fri. 2/24/17 11:05am Dean:

G'morning, and it's acid dropping time.

@UM (OT for everybody else): Yes, it's the Neon Park painting, which is titled, "Waiting for Columbus."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:05am Uncle Michael:

I had an inkling.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:06am Doug Schulkind:

@Little Danny
THIS is the Dutch band. The other folks were German.
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:06am Listener Gregory:

These Vogels are definitely Hippe.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:07am Jeff Golick:

In German, one would refer to "die Hippies."
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:07am Doug Schulkind:

Welcome aboard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:07am Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:07am Stanley:

I bet they were all singing naked
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:07am Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:08am Little Danny:

Wonderful LSD set
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:08am Alex In Illinois:

OKay, so John Waters used to participate in LSD studies at the nearby universities in the 1960s. And if you ran in to him some days and greeted him with: "Hi John, how's it going?" he would sometimes answer: "Placebo again today."
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:09am Dean:

If the Dutch Hippies collaborated with Valerie Solano, they'd be Die Hippies S.C.U.M.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:09am Uncle Michael:

Piero Oiccionie, he of the great Fumar de Londra soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:09am Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:10am still b/p:

Among the worst psychedelic purchase decisions (70s): "orange sunshine" from a shivering young hippie-ish stranger on the edge of the Boston Common. Stuff did nuthin'; coulda been anything. Brown acid bought at a Dead concert did nuthin' either. Damn placebo peddlers. Who can you trust?
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:10am KimSorise:

Aww come on, Uncle Michael, hippies are nice, but where is the best place to hide money or LSD, in this case, from a Hippie?
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:10am Little Danny:

Haha, right hand one key off UM
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:11am Doug Schulkind:

Nope, Uncle Michael. This comments board is like a chess board. Once you say it, you can't re-say it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:11am Carmichael:

@Kim: In a job application ...
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:11am KimSorise:

hahaha @carmichael - Under the Soap, man.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:12am Doug Schulkind:

The beginning of this F. Kenya number is pretty LSD-y.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:12am Dave in Vermont:

@still b/p have you considered that you have already reached that state that everyone else is trying to get to through LSD so it doesn't affect you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:14am Carmichael:

I got to that state WITH lsd many decades ago. It keeps coming back at inopportune times, and never when I want it to.
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:14am Dean:

Once had a really bad trip. When they told me I'd been given the placebo it got worse. Felt like I was flying with the folding tray down even during take-off and landing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:16am Uncle Michael:

Kim, thank you for breaking the seal on posting marathon premiums on social media. I didn't want to be first!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:17am KimSorise:

UM - do you think I should switch 2017 & Marathon - I am over English-teachering this I know but...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:20am Uncle Michael:

I think, ideally yes...but hardly a big deal.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:20am KimSorise:

Done. That's all I needed, thanks.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:21am Jeff Golick:

The Funky Afrosibi are well named.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:21am Jeff Golick:

They earned it.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:21am Little Danny:

Helluva groove, this
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:22am Andy in Etobicoke:

Beautiful chang on that guitar.

Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:28am George from Bristol UK:

Oh no, I missed the LSD set but I'm sure to get a flash back later.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:29am Dave in Vermont:

@George it has barely started kicking in. Thank goodness you are here to babysit.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:32am Dave in Vermont:

Poor Bill Mac. We're all going to be peaking with him in charge.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:34am still b/p:

@ D in V -- Those bad buys (bad buys, bad buys, whatcha gonna do) might have been the last times I tried, but in earlier purchases and consumption adventures, it...did...some...AFFECTING! Not the wildest, but enough. Without it, certain angles and degrees of perception, then and now, have to be called already naturally exaggerated fer sure, fer better 'n worse. Like everybody. I sometimes wonder if I'd ever be motivated to try it again. Eligible for senior discount soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:37am Carmichael:

My next band will be called Beautiful Chang.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:38am Doug Schulkind:

Cheech and Chong, opening for Beautiful Chang. Santa Monica Playhouse, December 5!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:40am Doug Schulkind:

Here, have some Kool Aid, George from Bristol, UK!

Wang Chung backed out?
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:40am Doug Schulkind:

It is my pleasure to have your company, Alejandroool!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:41am George from Bristol UK:

An interesting idea about Artificial Intelligence; feed a computer the digital equivalent of LSD. Read Andrew Smart's book "Beyond Zero and One; Machines, Psychedelics and Consciousness" (O/R Books NYC 2015). Highly recommended.
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:44am Mr C:

The great Chuck Brown!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:45am Doug Schulkind:

It wasn't a typo. Afrosibi it is. I should never have doubted myself.
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:46am Listener Gregory:

*We* never doubted you, Doug.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:49am Doug Schulkind:

I am riven with self-doubt constantly. Shit, I shouldn't have typed that! Well, maybe it's OK. No, you idiot, what are thinking?
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:50am Flash Strap:

came all the way into the house from laying around in the yard to find out what this Shakers & Movers track was
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

I haven't unearthed any info on it yet, Flash Strap.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

Anyone have the vinyl on this Movements 4 comp? Does it have liners with info?
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:53am Flash Strap:

god it's good. thank you for playing this !

  Fri. 2/24/17 11:55am Listener Gregory:

Now you're testing us, Doug.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:56am Andy in Etobicoke:

I stand corrected.
Cheech and Chang will now be opening for Cheech and Chong Santa Monica Playhouse, Dec 5
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:56am Doug Schulkind:

This is right up and down your alley, KimSorise!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:57am Little Danny:

The Carl Westmoreland track is a pt1/pt2 originally, a Detroit label if I recall correctly
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:57am Listener Gregory:

Of course, it SHOULD be spelled "Pharoah." I don't know why it isn't.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:57am Little Danny:

Definitely "Compared to What" inspired, the Westmoreland
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:57am Alejandroool:

Great show Doug, will hopefully catch up on archive - all these rhythms up my alley, cheers all!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:58am Doug Schulkind:

See you next week, Alejandroool!?!
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:59am Alejandroool:

I'll be waking up earlier these days, so hopefully ;)
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:59am still b/p:

Thanks for tabs of tasty music. You're the reliable supplier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 11:59am Stanley:

Freedom Road - my kinda road.
Thanks Doug, once again
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 11:59am KimSorise:

All over it, in fact! The Carl Westmoreland was a cracker too! Thanks Major Doug!
  Fri. 2/24/17 11:59am Dean:

August 15, 1970, issue of Billboard, p.38, mentions a Jazz Weekend at Jim Tarbell's Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati. Among the performers: singer Carl Westmoreland.
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 12:00pm Doug Schulkind:

Dean, the sonic detective!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/24/17 12:00pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Doug, have a peaceful rest of your day.
  Fri. 2/24/17 12:00pm Ramblin' Ray:

Thanks for the psychofeast Doug
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 12:01pm Little Danny:

Yes, that's right, and I stand corrected - Westmoreland was from southern OH not Detroit
Avatar Fri. 2/24/17 12:01pm Doug Schulkind:

You're welcome, Brian, Ray and everybody!
