I've been trying to get into the blues and failing, for thirty-plus years. It's the same chord structure all the time. It's mostly predicable, and I can't get into that, not even the most brilliant playing and singing. I know this is my fault... sigh

Going to have to drop "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" as my theme song if I keep this up...went to 2 fun shows this past week, Mostly Other People Do The Killing (who had Steve Bernstein on trumpet, who I'd see if he played for toddlers), and then at the Village Vanguard saw Dave Douglas (another GREAT trumpeter) with Joe Lovano in a Wayne Shorter-inspired group Soundprints (Joe Lovano is one of those players I KNOW I'm supposed to love more than I do-he is a great musician, but I was just waiting for Douglas to play at the show. My bad, I'm sure). Anyway, great live music week on this end!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am KimSorise:

hahaha @carmichael - Under the Soap, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Doug Schulkind:

The beginning of this F. Kenya number is pretty LSD-y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Dave in Vermont:

@still b/p have you considered that you have already reached that state that everyone else is trying to get to through LSD so it doesn't affect you?
Avatar 11:14am Carmichael:

I got to that state WITH lsd many decades ago. It keeps coming back at inopportune times, and never when I want it to.
  11:14am Dean:

Once had a really bad trip. When they told me I'd been given the placebo it got worse. Felt like I was flying with the folding tray down even during take-off and landing.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:16am Uncle Michael:

Kim, thank you for breaking the seal on posting marathon premiums on social media. I didn't want to be first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am KimSorise:

UM - do you think I should switch 2017 & Marathon - I am over English-teachering this I know but...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:20am Uncle Michael:

I think, ideally yes...but hardly a big deal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am KimSorise:

Done. That's all I needed, thanks.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:21am Jeff Golick:

The Funky Afrosibi are well named.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:21am Jeff Golick:

They earned it.
Avatar 11:21am Little Danny:

Helluva groove, this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Andy in Etobicoke:

Avatar 11:28am Alejandroool:

I'm never around at this time but glad to catch some of your show here!
Avatar 11:28am George from Bristol UK:

Oh no, I missed the LSD set but I'm sure to get a flash back later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Dave in Vermont:

@George it has barely started kicking in. Thank goodness you are here to babysit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Dave in Vermont:

Poor Bill Mac. We're all going to be peaking with him in charge.
Avatar 11:34am still b/p:

@ D in V -- Those bad buys (bad buys, bad buys, whatcha gonna do) might have been the last times I tried, but in earlier purchases and consumption adventures, it...did...some...AFFECTING! Not the wildest, but enough. Without it, certain angles and degrees of perception, then and now, have to be called already naturally exaggerated fer sure, fer better 'n worse. Like everybody. I sometimes wonder if I'd ever be motivated to try it again. Eligible for senior discount soon.
Avatar 11:37am Carmichael:

My next band will be called Beautiful Chang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Doug Schulkind:

Cheech and Chong, opening for Beautiful Chang. Santa Monica Playhouse, December 5!

Wang Chung backed out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Doug Schulkind:

It is my pleasure to have your company, Alejandroool!
Avatar 11:41am George from Bristol UK:

An interesting idea about Artificial Intelligence; feed a computer the digital equivalent of LSD. Read Andrew Smart's book "Beyond Zero and One; Machines, Psychedelics and Consciousness" (O/R Books NYC 2015). Highly recommended.
  11:44am Mr C:

The great Chuck Brown!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Doug Schulkind:

It wasn't a typo. Afrosibi it is. I should never have doubted myself.
  11:46am Listener Gregory:

*We* never doubted you, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Doug Schulkind:

I am riven with self-doubt constantly. Shit, I shouldn't have typed that! Well, maybe it's OK. No, you idiot, what are thinking?
Avatar 11:50am Flash Strap:

came all the way into the house from laying around in the yard to find out what this Shakers & Movers track was
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

I haven't unearthed any info on it yet, Flash Strap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

Anyone have the vinyl on this Movements 4 comp? Does it have liners with info?

I stand corrected.
Cheech and Chang will now be opening for Cheech and Chong Santa Monica Playhouse, Dec 5
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Doug Schulkind:

This is right up and down your alley, KimSorise!
Avatar 11:57am Little Danny:

The Carl Westmoreland track is a pt1/pt2 originally, a Detroit label if I recall correctly
  11:57am Listener Gregory:

Of course, it SHOULD be spelled "Pharoah." I don't know why it isn't.
Avatar 11:57am Little Danny:

Definitely "Compared to What" inspired, the Westmoreland
Avatar 11:57am Alejandroool:

Great show Doug, will hopefully catch up on archive - all these rhythms up my alley, cheers all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Doug Schulkind:

See you next week, Alejandroool!?!

Thanks Doug, once again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am KimSorise:

All over it, in fact! The Carl Westmoreland was a cracker too! Thanks Major Doug!
  11:59am Dean:

August 15, 1970, issue of Billboard, p.38, mentions a Jazz Weekend at Jim Tarbell's Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati. Among the performers: singer Carl Westmoreland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Doug Schulkind:

Dean, the sonic detective!

Thanks Doug, have a peaceful rest of your day.
  12:00pm Ramblin' Ray:

Thanks for the psychofeast Doug
Avatar 12:01pm Little Danny:

Yes, that's right, and I stand corrected - Westmoreland was from southern OH not Detroit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Doug Schulkind:

You're welcome, Brian, Ray and everybody!
