Good morning Doug and somer Dougers.

Will have an early morning duck count for you rather shortly.

Won`t be a large volume this early, as the sun has only been up for an hour an a half.

Hi Doug! In other radio-like news: (From Former WFMU DJ Nicholas Hill):

This week, after being off the air more than twenty years, former Saturday Afternoon WFMU stalwart James Marshall returned to the radio - The Hound - Thursdays 6-8pm (Eastern) at the online radio station - Little Water Radio.
Join The Hound every week for early moronic obscurities, greaseball classics, rhythm & booze, hedgehog hop, and other flotsam found on vinyl, styrene and shellac.

Thanks, Henry, I'll be glad to tell my housemate & WFMU supporter Steve about The Hound's new program. It'll encourage Steve to get a computer.

Steve raves about The Hound, and what's funny is that of all the Sat. WFMU programs I used to listen to (like Laura Cantrell, Terre T., WildGirl), The Hound was one I couldn't place in my memory.

Greasy Kid Stuff still broadcasts. Hova, Belinda and DJ Georgia are on a station in the hometown Portland, Oregon.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 9:38am Doug Schulkind:

Don't know who was on steel, Brian. And I am in Steeltown, USA!

The T-Bone Burnett/Will Rogers comparison is an intriguing one. I am not nearly the historian to judge its relevance.

Yes, Doug. The only problem is that RIGHT NOW there's SO MANY choices of stuff being streamed that I hardly ever think of listening to archived material (let alone hard media such as CDs or even 78s).

Just last month while killing time on Spring St. in Newton NJ, I stumbled on a studio where DJs were streaming NewtRadio, a service that was just days old. From the storefront & the shelves of CDs, I'd thought it was a record store! NewtRadio's pretty good too, 24/7 with a majority of it live DJed; it's primarily to promote the Newton Theater, a venerable art house. It's sort of the reverse of what you did with Monty Hall, in that they were a performance space and opened a Webcast project across the street & down the block from them.

Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:42am Little Danny:

I do too Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/17/17 10:44am Uncle Michael:

Brian, how did the puttas like the eggs?
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:44am Little Danny:

And Doug is known to many as western PA's Weird Dylan.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:45am Doug Schulkind:

So interesting how just a few bassist have been so amazingly prolific: Richard Williams, Ron Carter, Reggie Workman, etc. Hello, Lore!
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:46am βrian:

They like them saucy and on a bed of black beans.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:46am Doug Schulkind:

@Little Danny
That's SOUTHWestern PA's Weird Dylan. At least, that's how the plaque reads.
  Fri. 2/17/17 10:47am Mr C:

Add Dave Holland to that list Doug.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

He's on the list, Mr C! And how blessed that Dave Holland is still playing. He was very ill a number of years ago.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

OK, now I'm hungry, βrian. Thanks a lot.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:52am Doug Schulkind:

More lovely bass here, this time from Barre Phillips.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:52am Jeff Golick:

@Andy: thanks! Oh, yeah, that's allowed! Gotta check that one out.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:52am Little Danny:

So much goodness in this set Doug, nearly all of it new to my ears
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:52am Jeff Golick:

This trio is fantastic.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:55am Jeff Golick:

Another for the bass list: Ray Brown. His discogs page lists nearly 1500 "instruments & performance" credits.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:55am Doug Schulkind:

Oh yes, Ray Brown. Possibily THE most prolific of them all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/17/17 10:56am doctorjazz:

1+, great set!
(while I love Dave Holland, he sort of is his own universe, the music is so unique to him, as is his style).
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:56am βrian:

So many cogs.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 10:57am still b/p:

Weird musical moment after Danny's show last night. Collage by Three Degrees -- a cover of something from The James Gang I was unfamiliar with -- came on the stream. The sung melody and cadence of the thing was really familiar...so similar to some harder rock thing, what what what was it..? Finally realized it sounds like BOC's Godzilla! The Three Degrees singing something quite reminiscent of Godzilla...'at's a head tilter.
  Fri. 2/17/17 11:03am Dean:

Earl Anderza echoes a made-up name I've been toying with for no reason whatsoever: Earl LaVerle. Extra virgin.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 11:06am Doug Schulkind:

@still b/p
Your head tilts because you have heavy ears.

Hallo, Dean. Thanks for getting up oily!
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 11:09am Doug Schulkind:

The Associated Press is reporting this on Twitter:

"Zimbabwe's 92-year-old President Robert Mugabe should run 'as a corpse' if he dies before the vote, his wife says."

That's weird, because I just sneezed. My head jerked over to scan my mixer. Mic is potted down. That's weird.

Doug, is The Elemnts correct?

Have you passed naughty yet?
  Fri. 2/17/17 11:16am Dean:

Synchronicity, or causal intervention c/o The Action 13.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/17/17 11:17am Brian in UK:

Causal Intervention, dull Prog band from 1970 on Vertigo. The Juggler's Promise was their only album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/17/17 11:19am Stanley:

Brian - I heard them on Tony's show. I thought they weren't that bad.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 11:20am Doug Schulkind:

This song is possibly the greatest ever thing out of all the things.
  Fri. 2/17/17 11:21am Dean:

I swear to Allah, I wasn't sure that there wasn't such a band, nor that Tony didn't play them. Had to check. Also, "gullible" remains an entry in the dictionary.

The only thing that is shameful about GTDR-related promotion is that we forget to do it.

@Doug I'm guessing the closing cover artist is Al Green.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/17/17 11:44am Brian in UK:

Doug, I would like to say that this is a great show.

Lane where were you earlier, Doug's second set has some wonderful steel intros, no idea of the players though.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 11:45am Doug Schulkind:

Lane Gray, I need to play me some Seldom Scene again. They were ubiquitous in the DC area when I was growing up.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 11:45am Lane Gray:

Or Lloyd Green/Charlie Pride Kawliga (look, I know the jacket says "in person" from Panther Hall 1967 says Charlie, but that's one of the finest steel guitar records EVER. Lloyd was on FIRE)
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

In fact, the Seldom Scene were from my hometown of Bethesda, Maryland.
Avatar Fri. 2/17/17 11:47am Doug Schulkind:
