h'lo hey
  3:10am
Mark R:

Morning, Scraps! Nice long track to give everyone a chance to settle in...

One of my old girlfriends died this weekend. She was 62. Haven't talked with her in, I guess, 35 years.
  3:13am
Mark R:

Oh, man, it's like part of you died with her, right?
Avatar 3:14am
Scraps:

Yeah, anything called Something Jam is probably going to be at least eight minutes long. (I know this one is a whole album side)
  3:15am
Mark R:

Two sides of an album, actually!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15am
pacific standard simon:

The part of me that would really like to tell her how much I liked her.
Avatar 3:15am
Scraps:

Ow, sorry, PSSimon

See? I don't really know Eat a Peach
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21am
pacific standard simon:

So, you know, do that if you can. And suspect you might feel that way.
  3:22am
Mark R:

Sometimes the biggest regrets are the things we didn't do.
  3:27am
Mark R:

This is the part of the song I like to call, "The End of the Prom."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am
pacific standard simon:

"It's No Secret" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Huge emotional punch.
  3:39am
Mark R:

Yeah one of my faves, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40am
pacific standard simon:

"Plastic Fantastic Lover" seems like more of a Paul Kantner song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41am
pacific standard simon:

But I could be totally wrong..
  3:41am
Mark R:

Marty has the sole writing credit on the album, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44am
pacific standard simon:

And I am wrong, although that doesn't sound like Marty on the vocals to me.
  3:46am
Mark R:

I agree--usually he was more of a sweet singer, but he liked to cut loose and rock out once in a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50am
pacific standard simon:

Who is the woman on this Mott track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52am
pacific standard simon:

Mott The Hoople in Rocky Horror Picture Show would have been awesome, right?
  3:54am
Mark R:

Would've fit right in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57am
pacific standard simon:

Must have been COLD on that rooftop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am
joeray:

Let It be was recently available on YouTube and it was a lot more enjoyable than I remembered it when it was originally released. It had to be at the time of the Beatles breakup that made it seem so depressing.
  4:05am
Mark R:

They were better when they were fighting and breaking up than most bands are on their best days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05am
pacific standard simon:

I'd bet the rent that Marty still works out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10am
pacific standard simon:

I wonder who will be the first rock 'n' roller to run for president. We've had movie stars, and TV stars. Maybe Lady Gaga?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16am
pacific standard simon:

Ringo and Paul should form a supergroup with Pete and Roger. Drums, bass, guitar and vocals. There you go.
  4:16am
Mark R:

I'd be interested in hearing what they came up with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18am
joeray:

Fantasy supergroup: Moon, Entwhistle, and Hendrix!
  4:21am
Mark R:

Moon and Entwhistle played on "Beck's Bolero" and apparently considered forming a group with him. There were also rumors at the time that ELP formed that Jimi might be joining them, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23am
joeray:

There's a picture of the three of them together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24am
pacific standard simon:

I'd love to hear Daltry and McCartney screaming, "Yay-uh-yay-yay!" in unison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33am
pacific standard simon:

Somewheres pretty close to 42 years ago, I bought my first Art Ensemble of Chicago album for a buck or so at a dime store cut out bin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am
pacific standard simon:

Poulenc is pretty much my favorite 20th century composer. Especially his piano and woodwind sonatas.
Avatar 4:42am
Scraps:

I got up temporarily to say, Poulenc! Love Poulenc, Honegerr, Milhuad, the three major composers in Les Six.

This is so lovely. Thank you!
Avatar 4:43am
Scraps:

And yeah, all of Poulenc's chamber music is wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44am
pacific standard simon:

There's a classic Nonesuch album that was in every public library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am
joeray:

The 2-LP set on EMI of Poulenc's chamber works ain't too shabby either!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14am
Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Mark!

Morning, Guido--thanks for joining us!

Good morning everyone. Great show this morning Mark and guest!
  5:30am
Mark R:

Wow, just from the intro!
Avatar 5:31am
ausmanx:

oh i was a dedicated fan way back when
  5:32am
Mark R:

Back when they were an interesting "prog rock" band
Avatar 5:35am
ausmanx:

in my dotage i now think that the best thing to come out of early Genesis was the Anthony Phillips solo albums, but NO ONE ever plays them (although i note there's been some kind of 300-disc retrospective of him released by Cherry Red). but i also sold a lot of genesis bootlegs around the world in the 70s so it made me into the ruthless vicious capitalist i am today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44am
joeray:

I saw Genesis during their "Lamb Lies down On Broadway" tour at the Palace Theatre in Providence. One of the most memorable concerts ever! The Palace theatre's roof was leaking due to a rainstorm that evening, so the electricity had to be temporarily shut off. Phil Collins came out onstage telling jokes and doing card tricks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Mark R. Enjoy your time off. I hope your trip goes well.
  5:58am
Mark R:

Thanks, Ken! Enjoy our guest DJs, everyone. See you at the Marathon!
