Whoever you are, tonight is the night to break out.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:11pm Kris Holmes:

i found some rock 45s tucked away in a box so i thought i'd break them out for the first bit of the show tonight
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:20pm still b/p:

I don't know anyone who had many rock 45s, with most "rock" selections in the period found on everybody's albums and 8-tracks. 45s were the poppy thing. Wonder what kind of sales these acts reached with 45s?

Oh geeze...it's like before puberty all of the sudden.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:26pm Uncle Michael:

I may have been the world's leading 12-year-old Tull fan in 1972.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:27pm Kris Holmes:

That's why I had to pick up unplayed rock 45s when I saw them, not as common clean as you'd expect.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:27pm Kris Holmes:

Uncle Michael, not a bad place to be, they had their moments
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:28pm Uncle Michael:

Up till War Child.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:28pm Little Danny:

Looking forward to this! The stoner side of Kris

I (age 13 or just 14) bought Aqualung and Thick As a Brick at the same time, because the guys I was hanging with liked 'em. So I hadda!
Was at a backyard party this fall with several musicians playing around the circle, and a guy started playing Locomotive Breath...on an autoharp.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:30pm Kris Holmes:

ah, i didn't pull a lot of it Dan, just the first little bit of the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:31pm Uncle Michael:

I have a pretty big collection of UK Clash picture sleeves.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:44pm Little Danny:

Probably my fave PE track
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:44pm Kris Holmes:

Locomotive Breath on an Autoharp?? That could be incredible!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:45pm Little Danny:

How did American rap work its way down to NZ in the late '80s?
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:46pm Kris Holmes:

NZ was an early adopter of Hip Hop. It was huge. One of our NZ groups even traveled to the US to perform with PE & PE toured there a couple of times in their prime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:47pm Little Danny:

Wow, that's awesome
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:47pm Kris Holmes:

the production on these PE albums is so amazing
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:51pm Kris Holmes:

I pretty much gutted my extensive hip hop 7" collection back in the late 2000's when Japanman & Euroman were paying good money but I kept a few classics.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:52pm still b/p:

The autoharp moment was pretty fun. He starts the riff...."Wait, what is that...? It's.....no,wait it's..." And then someone hit the vocal. I don't think they made it all the way through, but given the surprise and setting, I say well played, gentlemen.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:53pm Kris Holmes:

yeah, sounds like a moment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 10:56pm Uncle Michael:

I didn't see lot of hip hop live, I saw Ice Tea wit Body Count opening. Body Count was the loudest band I ever saw. I saw the Beasties on Lollapalooza one year.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 10:58pm Kris Holmes:

I just read Body Count are doing some festival soon!! Had no idea they were still a thing. I still have Ice T's debut 45 on Saturn "The Coldest Rap".
Avatar    Tue. 1/17/17 10:59pm Doug Schulkind:

I like every single thing about this stupendous radio programme.

Thanks Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 11:02pm Uncle Michael:

Somene made a cool documentary about DJ Monica and De La Soul are in it.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 11:05pm still b/p:

Is that a sample from Best of My Love by the Emotions in there on Say No Go? Reminds me that I just caught a mid-70s TV appearance by Labelle doing Lady Marmalade with lyrics apparently and surprisingly altered to clean up some of the suggestiveness. Kept us safe from devil music.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 11:13pm Kris Holmes:

yeah it's an emotions sample
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/17/17 11:29pm Uncle Michael:

It's lights-out time here. Play me out, Kris. Great stuff.
Avatar Tue. 1/17/17 11:31pm Kris Holmes:
