Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

the salena jones version of "I've Got the Blues" is a 45 high on my want list ... didn't know this Marvin Jenkins.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:05pm Little Danny:

Oh wow, didn't know the Salena Jones version
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:05pm Little Danny:

Hyde, I think you should stay! How can I make that happen?
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:06pm still b/p:

Play things with plenty of atmosphere and appealing vibes but with back-masking that'll encourage productivity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 10:07pm JtotheK:

@Flash - I had to duck out for the 2nd half of your program, will catch that in the archives - i very much enjoyed that first half, looking forward to the rest!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:07pm Little Danny:

How's everybody doing this evening? I'm on the cusp of a cold, the worst place to be.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:08pm Little Danny:

Heya still b/p! I think I can accomplish that minus the subliminal productivity messaging
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 1/5/17 10:09pm melinda:

I'm doing well. No cold.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:09pm Flash Strap:

Thanks J-K!

I'm at the end of a cold, but it's not so hot here either LD
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:11pm hyde:

@LD haha, i want to stay. but i have to get up at 6. EST. just can't! it's cool, i always soak up the archive :)
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:13pm Little Danny:

@hyde, I reluctantly accept your exit. I mean, 6am is brutal
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 1/5/17 10:16pm melinda:

No one should have to get up at 6 am.
Thu. 1/5/17 10:17pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Hi Danny and listeners, greetings from sweltering Melbourne in the land of Oz, love Ernie Fields, made some killer instros
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 1/5/17 10:17pm melinda:

Hellooo Pistol Pete! Thanks for joining us across so many time zones
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:22pm Little Danny:

I'm glad Melinda! You have good tastes
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:30pm still b/p:

Not a complaint or boast, just a note of shift: I was up before 6:30 every work day for almost 25 years. Verrrry different now -- oh, don't see that hour too often -- since a large work change led to irregularities in schedule and life. Gotta be at a work location by 5 AM one day later this month though.

Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:36pm Little Danny:

I had to wake up at 7am for years for a gov't job. That was rough enough for me. Every morning I felt a antipathy to the world
  Thu. 1/5/17 10:37pm MrFab:

I work evenings now. It's a drizzly night, Bunker Hill, downtown LA. Which isn't as noir as it sounds. But I did bring a trenchcoat!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:37pm northguineahills:

Very nice Peter Wright into an old favorite John Chowning piece.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:39pm Little Danny:

Even if it's not as noir as it sounds I can totally picture that, Mr. F. Do walking basslines follow you around?
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 10:40pm Little Danny:

thanks NGH, and thanks for being here! I've tried to keep up with Wright's discography, but it's overwhelming
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:03pm JtotheK:

oh my, three rooms is fantastic!!!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:07pm Doug Schulkind:

{ 7" 45 }

Thank goodness this is something that Little Danny uses for good and not evil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:10pm JtotheK:

@doug - belated thanks for the link to Moon Gas readup - i read and enjoyed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:11pm coelacanth:

hello Little D and all
'been enjoying in the background
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:12pm Little Danny:

Haha, I made you wade through some high-minded headiness before we got to the R&B, J2tK! Glad you dug
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:12pm Little Danny:

Hi Coel! Thanks as always!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:14pm Little Danny:

@Doug 45s don't hurt people, only people blah blah blah. Hello sir!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:15pm Doug Schulkind:

@JtotheK
Happy to oblige.

@Little Danny
In your hands, 45s are holey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:18pm JtotheK:

@Danny -- I enjoyed the headiness, too, especially the John Chowning.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:19pm still b/p:

Some family member at Christmas wore one of them necklaces featuring a metal (or real plastic one dipped?) center-hole adapters for 45s.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:25pm Little Danny:

@still b/p: neato, is yours a record-collecting family?
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Will catch the rest from Horizontalland. Thanks for the magnificence, LD!
Thu. 1/5/17 11:26pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

This Human Touch tune is nice
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:27pm Little Danny:

Thank you Doug, happy trails, and see ya tomorrow AM!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:27pm Little Danny:

Thanks Pete!
Thu. 1/5/17 11:30pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Dig the George Braith as well, one of my fave LP's is his Happy Soul with grant Green, think from 66?
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:32pm northguineahills:

Gotta boogie, thanks LD!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:33pm Little Danny:

Don't know Happy Soul, Pete - thanks for the tip, tho
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:34pm Little Danny:

thank YOU ngh - g'night, and see ya around!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:35pm JtotheK:

note to self: it's been a while since George Braith 'extension' lp has been on the turntable...give a listen soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:38pm JtotheK:

from my internet research:
George Braith is a soul-jazz saxophonist from New York. Braith is known for playing multiple horns at once, a technique pioneered by Roland Kirk. Braith is credited with the invention of the Braithophone, two different horns (straight alto and soprano) mended together by extensions, valves and connections.
Thu. 1/5/17 11:38pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Sorry Danny, thats Laughing Soul by George Braith, on Prestige, features Grant Green, and Little Flame is a lovely gem
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:39pm JtotheK:

i wonder how many braithophones are in use today.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:42pm Little Danny:

J2tK, that's right! I saw Braith play live with one o' them in the early aughts.
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:42pm still b/p:

Noooo, LD (going back a bit), no crate-diggers or vast-music-brain-filers in the family that I know of. The particular sister just seemed to find novelty, nostalgia and distinction in her jewelry choice -- a token of growing-up years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:45pm JtotheK:

great show this evening, Little Danny -- thanks!
Thu. 1/5/17 11:51pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Love the Amos Milburn, track never heard that one before, and was a hugh fan way back in the late 70's as a young R&B collector, he always had a killer band and dunno who his guitarist on this one, but wow!! Grat show as usual, thanks Danny
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:53pm Little Danny:

Thanks all! Pete: I thought of you during that Milburn solo. Don't know who the guitarist is either, though, alas
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 1/5/17 11:56pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks LD!
Avatar Thu. 1/5/17 11:59pm Little Danny:

The pleasure was mine, coel!
Avatar Fri. 1/6/17 12:00am Little Danny:

Anyone care to spell "A mon Ami Lucien Jolibois" phonetically before I embarrass myself?
Avatar Fri. 1/6/17 12:06am still b/p:

Ah mohn ah-MEE loo-SHE-AWN Zho-lee-BWAH.
Pure unsupported stab! And late!
Avatar Fri. 1/6/17 12:08am Little Danny:

Thanks still b/p! I was too late to keep myself from some butchery
Avatar Fri. 1/6/17 12:09am Little Danny:

See y'all around these parts, friends! G'night!
