Being a contemporary dance fan, I wish I could see the works this was made for
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 2:15pm doctorjazz:

I'm not hearing anything...
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 2:16pm weinstein:

Zeena says: this was from a live performance at St Marks' Church/Danspace in collaboration with /choreographer Jennifer Monson
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 2:16pm listener james from westwood:

Coming through clear (and lovely) via iTunes on this side.

@Zeena
Fellow Hampton Elementary School alum Matt Weingarden (aka WFMU's "Mr. Fine Wine") sends his greetings!
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 2:21pm weinstein:

Big smile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 2:28pm fred:

From their site (www.ilandart.org), it looks like this company doesn't travel much if at all. So my seeing Jennifer Monson's work in France looks unlikely
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 2:30pm listener james from westwood:

Agreeing with Ruth. Likewise blissing out.
Wed. 12/28/16 2:30pm Alf from Upstate:

So glad to be a Captiva audience.
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 2:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 2:33pm fred:

Happy birthday Ruth!
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 2:39pm weinstein:

Ruth is blushing for the radio... and welcome Alf!
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 2:39pm Mr. Fine Wine:

Thanks, Doug. I knew Zeena's younger sisters M and S. Haven't been in touch with any of them since about 1975. They lived on the next street over in Detroit. Hampton, a small Detroit public elementary school, was a hotbed of musical talent. Besides the Parkins sisters: Regina Carter, Derrick May, John Idan (Yardbirds frontman for the past 20-odd years), all around the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 2:40pm doctorjazz:

Happy Birthday Ruth! Hope it's a fun one!
(just LOVING this set!)
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 2:45pm Mr. Fine Wine:

Zeena Parkins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 3:07pm Scraps:

gosh, I saw Zeena Parkins with Fred Frith and Tom Cora, must have been 25+ years ago, in Seattle
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 3:10pm Doug Schulkind:

"Elbow Piano" makes me think of the wonderful LA pianist Carl Perkins. Perkins had polio and played with his left arm parallel to the keyboard. He used his elbow to hit the bass notes. 1.bp.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 3:11pm listener james from westwood:

The path into that building sounds like some dreams I've had: wandering thru old, huge schools, trying to find classrooms, lockers, exits....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 3:14pm fred:

@james: did you start having these dreams before or after seeing Spinal Tap?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 3:15pm listener james from westwood:

Heh, before! They started with high school; didn't see it until 1st year of college. But that had to have added grist to the mental mill.
  Wed. 12/28/16 3:15pm casper:

I dream of electric harps
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 3:17pm Scraps:

this is excellent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 3:18pm fred:

@Doug: Sophie Agnel can probably use ebow and elbow at the same time
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 3:23pm Doug Schulkind:

@fred
Yes indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 3:24pm fred:

Wow, this is amazing! I would favorite the whole show, but I can't because I already did
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 3:30pm Webhamster Henry:

I was using a "Wond" on a piano just last week - a Wond is something like an E-Bow, but it tunes itself (or at least tries) to the excited object's harmonics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 3:35pm fred:

@Henry: nice resonance with Doug's first comment
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 3:41pm Webhamster Henry:

Yes, we are all excitedly resonating with the GTDS Stream!
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 3:47pm Doug Schulkind:

I was just watching this video recently: Zeena talking about using lace and knitting patterns as scores: youtu.be...
  Wed. 12/28/16 3:52pm casper:

Weinstein's fluency in the subcultures of New York City's avant garde music scene is beyond compare
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 3:53pm fred:

@Doug: if someone based a knitting pattern on WFMU programming, that could make for a unique sweater
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 12/28/16 3:55pm fred:

I guess this is the project Scraps saw in Seattle
Avatar Wed. 12/28/16 3:57pm Doug Schulkind:

@fred
Maybe that will be the big marathon premium for 2018!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/28/16 3:59pm listener james from westwood:

What a great end-of-year gift to have Zeena Parkins in recorded and live form in the studio! Thanks, all, and thanks also for all the great music since the start earlier this year!
