@βrian: "Filmy porno polskie."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:26am Brian in UK:

Prague is a beautiful city. Except the building that houses the municipal art gallery. You can use ironical, in its truest sense as it is Sixties functionality. Designed by a committee that was not talking to each other.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:27am Doug Schulkind:

I am about to crack open my third liter of seltzer during the show. I need an intervention.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:27am βrian:

Well, I've never been a fan of municipal art, anyway.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:28am βrian:

Alka seltzer?
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:28am burke:

Czech that seltzer consumption, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:29am Brian in UK:

Doug, you comment at 10:20 reminds me of the old joke.
Woman talking to her friend about a man of god coming round later, saying "I'm going to lay on a trifle for the vicar".

(a) The tap water in Pittsburgh is godawful
(b) I drink seltzer in such quantities that it wouldn't be prudent.
(c) Really godawful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:34am Brian in UK:

@βrian Guess it is what is on show inside. This stunning collection was there when we visited.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:34am Uncle Michael:

Quantities is why it WOULD be prudent. No disposable bottles, a fraction of the cost. Get a water cooler and buy 5 gallon jugs of spring water. Again, a fraction of the cost and no waste.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:35am melinda:

re: Bobbie Gentry- true, there is so much more than Ode to Billy Joe. But that's such a great song, it seems like it should make people more interested in her work. To each their own, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:36am Brian in UK:

Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:40am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:42am βrian:

Bathrooms are hazards for some older folks. My father had a few falls, always in the bathroom. Hope that turns out ok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:42am Uncle Michael:

Ugh, sorry Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/16/16 10:42am annie:

.... a broken rib... minimal, but still troublesome. yeah, what brian said; hope it's a simple thing
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:43am glenn:

not too many soft surfaces in most bathrooms.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:44am burke:

My best to your family. Music is the leading pain reliever on the market.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:44am βrian:

BTW, I didn't realize "seltzer" was still in current usage. I associate it with classic movies like The Thin Man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:44am doctorjazz:

Any broken bone is no fun, but legs/hips would be much worse likely, hopefully just bad bruising, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 10:45am doctorjazz:

Free jazz time? cool!
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:45am Doug Schulkind:

I was planning to dash over to see Pops right after the show. We'll see if I have to leave any earlier. (Fingers crossed.)
  Fri. 12/16/16 10:45am Listener Robert:

A broken rib is minimal in some senses, but not usually when it comes to pain -- ouch! Because you can't immobilize it unless you stop breathing.
  Fri. 12/16/16 10:46am Listener Robert:

Playing rugby, I pulled an abdominal oblique by its attachment to a couple of ribs, and that was bad enough.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:46am Doug Schulkind:

Do you make house calls, docjazz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/16/16 10:47am Parq:

Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:48am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for you well wishes, folks. My dad has gone almost three months without falling. He fell about four times in five days back in early September.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:48am Jeff Golick:

Keith Tippett, of Ovary Lodge and many other lodges, is in my humble opinion, an under-recognized genius. (The mutton-chop sideburns probably did him no favors in this regard.)
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:49am Jeff Golick:

@glenn: Someone should really come out with a line of soft bathroom fixtures.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Are vegetarians allowed to wear mutton chops?
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:50am Jeff Golick:

On the outside, yes.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:51am still b/p:

Hope your dad's not got much hurt. As Robert mentions, I know anything with ribs means coughing, sneezing, laughing, bending all get uncomfortable. Even when I just wrenched or zoinked the intercostals, I wanted the doc to say yes, a rib was officially cracked or broken -- "Say it IS so, Doc!" -- so the discomfort would be recognized or certified or something and I wasn't just being a baaaaby.
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 10:52am glenn:

anything rib related takes forever to heal, in my experience anyway.

Absolutely understandable, @Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 12/16/16 11:06am Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/16/16 11:11am annie:

i know nursing homes are really picky about outside medicines, he may benefit from the homeopathic remedy Arnice Montana for bruising..
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 11:13am βrian:

I'm a fan of arnica gel, applied externally. I can't imagine they'd have a problem with that.

Mostly I just want to get over there so the don't send him to the emergency room.
  Fri. 12/16/16 11:16am Listener Robert:

Not just nursing homes, annie. Now they're not allowing his wife, even though she's a MD, supply General Stubbebine in the hospital with dietary supplements he was doing very well on.
  Fri. 12/16/16 11:17am Listener Robert:

And since they were withdrawn, Gen. Bert is doing much worse. And his condition is life-threatening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/16/16 11:18am annie:

i hate the way "modern" medicine has changed
  Fri. 12/16/16 11:18am Listener Robert:

I should've been clearer: Gen. (retired) Bert Stubblebine (correct sp).
  Fri. 12/16/16 11:19am Listener Robert:

You may have heard of him in the lampooning "The Men Who Stare at Goats".
Avatar Fri. 12/16/16 11:20am Doug Schulkind:

I love how Dees sings "somewhat like a boomerang" instead of just "like a boomerang." Interesting that he felt the need to qualify it!

My mother gets medication against 0steoporosis (porous bones). Quite common among elderly, particularly women. Risk increases with age. Nothing serious has happened, though she broke her wrist once, but now fully healed.

Best of luck to your dad, Doug.
