Hey Jeff and GO'ers, Happy Sunday-posting early, will be listening mostly on the road. Heading to Philadelphia to hear Nels Cline/Larryy Ochs/Gerald Cleaver (maybe a guest or 2), playing at a house concert there (again tonignt at Johnny Brenda's). Saw them there Thursday night, great skronking, WAY OUT show, would recommend tonight to anyone that can make it.

Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:00am Jeff Golick:

Holla, @duke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:02am fred:

Good morning Jeff and listeners
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:03am Jeff Golick:

@fred!!! How are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:08am fred:

Still hurting in many spots, and some things are not right yet, but I can listen to the station, and that's a major improvement
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:10am Jeff Golick:

Yes. It's certainly heartening (ahem) to see you hereabouts. Best of luck with the recovery. Any requests?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:14am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hullo.
Ya gotta get Into it if ya wanna get Out of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:14am fred:

What I like best about the station is hearing stuff I don't know or forgot about for years. Requests don't go well with that
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:15am Jeff Golick:

Howdy, @Revolution Rabbit! True words. Now I'm hungry for In-n-Out Burger (and I've never been to one).
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:16am Jeff Golick:

Will do my level best to surprise and delight, @fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...nor I, & I lived in SoCal for 16 years. I was however apprised of the practice of editing their bumper stickers to say 'In & Out urge'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:27am Andrew Waterloo:

The Burger King sign in my town was edited down to "Arking for the urger patrons only."
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:30am Jeff Golick:

Hey there, @ndrew aterloo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:35am Andrew Waterloo:

good morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 9:36am Brian in UK:

HEY FRED. So good to see your pretty face again.

Oh, my manners and yours, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 9:37am Brian in UK:

Fred, is the pain relief working and are you getting any sleep?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:39am northguineahills:

Ok, I missed this Joe Henderson album.... how????
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:41am Jeff Golick:

Warm greetings to you, @Brian in UK, and you, @northguineahills!
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:42am Jeff Golick:

@ngh: bit of an outlier, I guess. (Plus, Doug is usually talking over it when he plays it...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 9:45am Brian in UK:

@ngh dare I ask about job progress, my friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:50am fred:

@Brian: I'm sleeping well enough, though I've reached the 7 hours limit imposed by my med-taking schedule. I dumped the painkillers after a couple of weeks, when the side effects got worse than the pain
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 9:53am northguineahills:

@Brian, I got to run, will talk about it later in about 90 minutes
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 9:54am Jeff Golick:

See you, @ngh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 10:16am Brian in UK:

@fred always read the leaflet with the drugs, the side effects can be up to ten or twelve in number.
It is having to sleep on your back that is difficult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 10:17am doctorjazz:

Cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 10:33am fred:

That set makes me want to see Gerald Cleaver. Philly is way out of my range though
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:36am Dean:

Makes me want to hear Craig Taborn, too. I think he played with Sonny Simmons and Michael Marcus here in Oakland several years ago as The Cosmosomatics. Or am I making that up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 10:38am Brian in UK:

Dean, if you are. Good work.

Trying to sell things of an auction site and it is driving me nuts.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 10:39am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @Dean. I am really looking forward to hearing this group on Thursday, including Taborn: roulette.org...
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:41am Dean:

The venue was near the Chinatown branch of Oakland Public Library.

Lord, yes, Jeff G.! Wow, what a lineup. Would so love to hear Evans and Sorey live.

A friend and I interviewed Miya Masaoka in a former apartment of mine here in the Bay Area for a movie the friend made.
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:41am Doug Schulkind:

Just sitting to lunch. Please pass the Grey Poupon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 10:42am fred:

I have seen Taborn a few times, but always with Tim Berne.
@Jeff: That show looks amazing. What a stellar lineup!
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:42am Dean:

Friend of mine had a pet cockatiel named Poupon. Guess why.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 10:44am Jeff Golick:

I once saw Taborn in our local video rental store, which shows you how long ago that was. I still regret not hailing him and saying how much I loved his work.

@Doug! Bon appetit!
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 10:44am Jeff Golick:

(Saw him renting a video, that is. It wasn't a live music venue.)
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 10:46am Jeff Golick:

Here's that Laubrock group.
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:47am Dean:

Saw Taborn (and Cleaver) here: http://jazztimes.com/guides/events/2215-michael-formanek-with-tim-berne-craig-taborn-and-gerald-cleaver-at-yoshi-s-oakland

Bumped into Matt Shipp at DMG c.2000. I did tell him how much I loved his work, and I asked him if he knew the works of Sorabji. He had not, so I promised myself I'd record Opus Clavicembalisticum for him, but I never fulfilled the promise. Could still, though.
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:47am Dean:

He *did not.
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:49am Dean:

"Pothole Analytics." I wish Laubrock worked for the Berkeley Streets Dep't.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 10:50am Jeff Golick:

With NYC's 311 line/app for reporting such things, I don't doubt that there are pothole analytics in play.

@Dean: that is a great group you saw @ Yoshi's.
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:51am Dean:

Was Roulette in Manhattan at one time?
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 10:51am glenn:

grey poupon. that's commie mustard.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 10:51am Jeff Golick:

Yes, I believe so, @Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 10:53am Uncle Michael:

I'm doing fine, thank you for asking, Jeff.
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:56am Doug Schulkind:

Roulette indeed was originally in Manhattan. And one of Roulette's founders has a show on Give the Drummer Radio!

Tune in to Ridgewood Radio, Wednesdays 2-4pm.
  Sun. 12/11/16 10:57am Dean:

I suspect we will soon hear music composed using algorithmic explorations of corpora of open data collected by local/state/federal government departments. Reports of potholes will inspire the next Goldberg Variations.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:00am Dean:

Or Tales from Topographic Highways.
Or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, albeit Uncomfortably.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:00am glenn:

also, grey poupon contains the words gey porn, which, as everybody knows, means that the clintons are running a pedophile ring in the basement of the grey poupon factory.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:03am Jeff Golick:

Belated greets, @glenn! That story you tell seems about right.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:05am Doug Schulkind:

Gotta git back to work. It's been real, gentlepeople.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:05am Jeff Golick:

When you don't like the world as it is, just make up a completely different world. Who's to tell you that you can't use old socks and paper clips as currency?? International BANKERS????!!!?11?!?!
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:05am Jeff Golick:

CHEERIO, @Doug!
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:07am Jeff Golick:

@Dean: you were on a roll there. Well done; keep 'em comin'.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:17am Dean:

Giant Steps? Green Dolphin Street (Is Temporarily Closed to Traffic)?
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:18am Jeff Golick:

No Parking on the Dance Floor.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:19am Jeff Golick:

(You're better at this, @Dean.)
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:25am JtotheK:

Quick chiming in to say 'hi' and that I've enjoyed the tunes this morning!
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:26am Jeff Golick:

Ah, thanks for chiming, @JtotheK! Great to hear from you.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:30am Dean:

Der Straßenarbeiter von Nürnberg, as performed by Asphalt Orchestra.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 11:31am Brian in UK:

Grub Street to be pedestrianised. No through traffic.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:32am Jeff Golick:

That sounds nice, @Brian.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:32am Dean:

"Pedestrianized" sounds...dirty.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:33am glenn:

ooooh. my favourite neil album.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:34am Dean:

Bought a used Ben Allison record yesterday. He covers a Neil tune.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:35am Jeff Golick:

Mine, too, @glenn.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:36am glenn:

he really is a fabulous guitarist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 11:43am Brian in UK:

No pederasts here. Well, not on Sundays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 11:44am Brian in UK:

A Kinks' favourite is 'Don't You Fret'. Appropriate these days.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:45am glenn:

ray was a curmudgeon when he was 21. maybe 19.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:45am melinda:

Hi folks
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:47am Dean:

melinda, did you see my comment yesterday, maybe the day before, about Dusts on the Nettles? Confirmed: only 3 discs.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:49am glenn:

apparently the new stones album is quite good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 11:50am northguineahills:

@Brian: I definitely have a crappy job, but I'm waiting to hear if I get the good job I want, but I won't find out about that one until after the holidays. Thanks for asking.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:51am Jeff Golick:

Hi, @melinda!

@glenn: Matt played a cut from it on Thursday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 11:52am doctorjazz:

Made it to Philly! Music in half am hour. Thanks for the great driving tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 11:53am Brian in UK:

ngh some good news but string dangling is no fun.
Good luck.

Jeff you morphed into Matt F.
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:54am Jeff Golick:

Glad you made it, @doc. Enjoy the show!
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:54am melinda:

Hi dean, I did see you comment. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 11:54am fred:

I'm sorry to report that laundry refuses to wash and iron itself, despite my weakened state. This show provided a nice soundtrack to a tedious chore
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 11:56am Jeff Golick:

@Brian: a boy can dream.

@fred: glad to hear it, and really overjoyed to see you back here.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:56am Dean:

Seems to me there's a much higher demand for self-washing/ironing laundry than for autonomous vehicles.
  Sun. 12/11/16 11:56am Dean:

I believe Rodney Bingenheimer was in Chocolate Watchband, at least briefly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 11:59am fred:

Dean, I think you're on to something. Please remember to throw a few millions the station's way once you're a billionaire
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 12:00pm Andrew Waterloo:

Autonomous vehicles will just happen, like the proliferation of Twitter. One day it's a fad with questionable market potential. Next thing you know the president elect leads the news every night by saying inane things on it .
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 12:00pm fred:

Bikini Kill! (I'm still pissed off I was in the hospital when The Julie Ruin played in Paris)
Avatar Sun. 12/11/16 12:01pm Jeff Golick:

It doesn't matter what we want.
  Sun. 12/11/16 12:02pm Dean:

I'm with Atrios re: self-driving cars. Ain't gonna happen in our lifetimes. There will be a shit-ton of hype--is already--but there won't be a deployment at anything approaching full scale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 12:03pm Andrew Waterloo:

I close to the industry. The technology is there
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 12/11/16 12:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I-IV-V are very good numbers...
Thx for sonic aid this A.M.
  Sun. 12/11/16 12:04pm Dean:

Smells like AI to me. The definition evolves as the limited capacity of the technology is recognized.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 12/11/16 12:04pm Brian in UK:

Nice one, Jeff.
Best to fred.
