Nice to be with you live, for at least a few min, this week...

Good evening from Oregon, everyone...
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:05am Bentangle:

I actually hadn't heard of Pauline Oliveros before this week even though she is so very much my bag. Recommendations for entry point?
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:06am fleep:

Greetings from a chilly L.A.
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:07am Jeff Conklin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 12:10am Scraps:

Oliveros, sigh
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:11am Jennifer_PNW:

Another loss for 2016
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 12:16am Scraps:

There's a lot of good Oliveros, lots of it in collaboration.

Primordial Lift is really good, and I think it's in print
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 12:18am Scraps:

The label Deep Listening has several of her works, including the album Deep Listening
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:19am Veronica (OG):

Two other good ones: "I Of IV" on New Sounds In Electronic Music comp (1967)...Accordion & Voice on Lovely Music (1982)
Mon. 11/28/16 12:25am Erik in Michigan:

These Willie Dunn songs from the last few shows are certainly poignant.
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:51am Bentangle:

Thanks for the recommendations guys :)
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:52am Bentangle:

Best Nash song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 12:54am Scraps:

I like the change at the end
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 12:56am fleep:

Enjoying the arc of the whole set, it got kinda dark for awhile but we're coming out of it.
  Mon. 11/28/16 1:01am ?:

Wow! Enchanted again by this show!

Lots of Pettibone on SST
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 1:09am Scraps:

Especially 7". Black Flag, Minutemen, etc
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 1:11am Jeff Conklin:

Yeah, forgot about the Black Flag/SST stuff.

Great Michael Chapman song, really looking forward to this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 1:12am Scraps:

Scraps is my name! Even my family calls me that.
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 1:13am Jeff Conklin:

Not talking to you, Scraps. Talking to the person complimenting the show not the one correcting me ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 1:15am Scraps:

Never mind! (I wasn't correcting you. Just offering more information.)
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 1:16am Jeff Conklin:

Just bustin' yr chops, Scraps. Appreciate the info
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 1:17am Bentangle:

Didn't know there was new Willie Lane?!
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 1:18am Jeff Conklin:

You must have not been listening the last few weeks, Bentangle
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 1:21am Scraps:

This is lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 1:41am Scraps:

Huh. Doesn't sound like most Tzadik.

OTOH, I guess I only know Tzadik that I already know. There's lots of Tzadik that I don't know....
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:03am Dean:

There are tons of websites devoted to "how to get it off."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:08am joeray:

The letter U and the number 2...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:16am Scraps:

No U2 on Avant Ghetto! No Grateful Dead on Spin Age Blasters! Today is the day that FMU says No!

;-)
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:17am Jeff Conklin:

Whats a spin age blaster
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:18am Scraps:

Creamo Coyl's show
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:18am joeray:

@Scraps: Where's b k?
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:19am Mark R:

Someone should do a show just of bands that other DJs refuse to play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:19am Scraps:

PLayed 3hours of This Heat today
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:20am joeray:

Creamo was sort of dissing the Dead followers, "they should have been following This Heat!"
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:20am Dean:

Nope, I don't think I could tolerate several hours of Journey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:21am Scraps:

@joeray: ha! I wondered just fifteen minutes ago
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:21am Katie | Toronto:

@Mark R I feel like that used to be Blurred
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:23am joeray:

3 hours of bootleg This Heat was incredible!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:23am Scraps:

Where's b k, that is
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:23am Jeff Conklin:

I don't know this show. It's on FMU?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:24am Scraps:

Sunday 3am
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:25am Jeff Conklin:

Ah.

Well, I love This Heat, have every boot and everything they've recorded but couldn't possibly listen to them for 3 hours straight...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:27am Scraps:

At midnight seattle time, it was cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:27am Scraps:

Of course, i was reading too....
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:31am Katie | Toronto:

Yeah yeah Blurred & Obscured! Records DJs refuse to play. Sorry my whole comment didn't post. Amazing show tonight btw dude. I feel like when people tell me their favourite band is This Heat it's untrue. Right? 3 hours seems nuts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:34am joeray:

I mentioned your show in the comments of Spin Age Blasters, Jeff. I asked commenter b k (said he saw the Dead 600 times) who seemed angered by Creamo's comment about the Deadheads, if he ever listened to The Avant Ghetto. He never replied.
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:34am Mark R:

I"m so ignorant, this is the first time I've heard of them. Play some Foghat, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:36am Scraps:

My brother says when I say Wire is my favorite, he doesn't believe me. I don't understand him. You really don't believe people who says This Heat is their favorite band?
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:38am Jeff Conklin:

This Heat are amazing. Deceit is a masterpiece. The live recordings are great. Charles Hayward played in Gong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:38am joeray:

@Katie: 3 hours of This Heat was kind of nuts, but in a good way!
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:40am Jeff Conklin:

And thank you, Katie.
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:42am bbb:

Charles Hayward also played in Quiet Sun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:42am Scraps:

"seemed angered"?

He said, among other thngs, "Nothing shows anyones musical ignorance more than not getting the Dead."

I like the Dead. But really.
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:43am Katie | Toronto:

I agree they are amazing. But it's a bit suspicious. To be a FAVOURITE band. It's too damn academic to be a favourite or something. I had someone tell me The Shaggs were their top five recently and I called BS to their face! I did NOT know that about Gong. Sick.
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:43am Jennifer_PNW:

Forgot about that Quiet Sun record, I recall liking it quite a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:44am Scraps:

And Hayward replaced Massacre when Fred Maher left
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:44am Jeff Conklin:

I agree with your point, Katie, I don't think they can be anyone's favorite
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:44am bbb:

@Jennifer, yeah I love that Mainstream record
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:45am Scraps:

Quiet Sun's Mainstream is one of my fifty favorite albums
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:47am Jeff Conklin:

The Shaggs are terrible in every respect. Not even likeable in a Jandekian sense.
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:47am Katie | Toronto:

I have many Elaine "English Patient" moments though, working at a record store, so I'm touchy that way haha. Is this an OG Timmothy?
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:48am Jennifer_PNW:

@bbb, @Scraps, amazing lineup on that record
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:48am Jeff Conklin:

A shop in TO, Katie? I go up there often!

Not an OG Timmothy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:48am joeray:

@Scraps: Hang onto that thought!
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:49am ! I X Key !:

!
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:49am Jennifer_PNW:

@Katie: Re: "English Patient" moments, same here, working in record stores for many years. haha!
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:49am Katie | Toronto:

What is this Xtra beautiful Toronto song???
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:50am Scraps:

Man, if anyone said they didn't believe my favorite band, whatever the reason, first i would explain, and then if they still didn't believe me, i would be angered
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:51am Katie | Toronto:

Yeah a shop in TO! Not far from *Yonge street :)
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 2:54am Jeff Conklin:

@Katie: You don't work in my favorite spot there because its always the same old, angry dude. (Don't say the name if you know it. I like keeping it a secret)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:55am Scraps:

And i liked the Shaggs, and i think we know too much about them. If they were in the 1980s, and we knew about them about what we know about, oh the Raincoats, we wouldn't hold them in contempt.

But that's because i really like them. Really.
  Mon. 11/28/16 2:56am Katie | Toronto:

@Scraps Respect. Honestly!
Yeah man I 100% know who haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:58am Scraps:

@joeray: Hang onto that thought!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 2:59am Scraps:

Hey people: it's 3am! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 11/28/16 3:00am joeray:

The Shagg's version of Tom T. Hall's "I Love" is insane and right up WFMU's alley!
Avatar Mon. 11/28/16 3:00am Jennifer_PNW:

Goodnight
