Today's show will be nothing but 7" records -- and, as a counterweight to the last three weeks of Froginess, they will all be from the U.S.

Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 11:42am Tony Coulter:

By the by, the band in the playlist pic is Friends -- who will not be heard from today....

hey james! i picked up a pro-bono editing gig with a group of young activists publishing expose-style articles. i know them, so i told them i'd help clean up some of the articles. i've only done a couple... man, they LOVE the commas and semi-colons!

a huge one, i suppose....:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/25/16 12:17pm listener james from westwood:

@annie: I support all editorial ventures! Cool that they were up for some review. Long, conjoined sentences, it sounds like! If you figure you're going to be doing future ones for them, you might suggest they read the work out loud, then add periods where they run out of breath. Sounds simplistic but it helped me in my own writing (and I'm a semicolon fiend!).
  Tue. 10/25/16 12:19pm JtotheK:

Hi Tony, hi everyone!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

yeah, luke is a friend of my son's, so i want to help him polish up a bit. they've been hammering out articles at break-neck speed, publishing the wikileaks releases. it's been interesting to say the least. i love their passion.

When you're dead (God, I mean, not you) your eyesight and hearing tend to suffer....
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:37pm βrian:

My avatar bit the hand that feeds him, so I got two shots in the butt. Gratitude, I tell you.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:38pm Nick S.:

Tony! I'm late. Some people need to donate!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar bites are nasty (Heya, βrian)
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:40pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Nick S!

How right you are re donations ... gotta raise some more moolah for station and stream!
  Tue. 10/25/16 12:40pm MrFab:

Ahoy, Tony, and fellow Tony-ites! That 'Revenge' song sounded like a hippie band trying to get all '80s and New Wave but they still sound like Jefferson Airplane. Fascinating.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:42pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, MrFab! I've been picturing Essence as a Long Island bar band or sumpin'....
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:43pm Nick S.:

Tony C. deserves 100% donation status! Time to donate whatever paltry, sad and seemingly useless amount you got! Come on!!!!!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:45pm Tony Coulter:

On top of which the station overall is WAY behind in meeting its goal....
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:47pm βrian:

The Donald could just fix WFMU's problem. Why doesn't he?
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:48pm Tony Coulter:

Because he's actually totally broke....
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:48pm Nick S.:

You're listeners need to put down their $30 hash oil pens and give you their burrito money! Just ONE FUCKING BURRITO!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:49pm βrian:

Or two burritos fucking?
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:49pm Nick S.:

Goddamn, you should give Tony TWO FUCKING BURRITOS' money just for thanks for having those hash oil pens!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:50pm Tony Coulter:

Get a room, you fucking burritos.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:51pm V Priceless:

hey Tony! Were u reading pledges from last week too, or just today? Not sure I heard my name - not that I care, beyond ensuring that said pledge gets credited to your fabulouso showso! : )
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:51pm Cecile:

I would love people who have never pledged before to pledge. I'm hoping to pledge again at the end of the month, but it's been a tough year for me, and I've given plenty.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:53pm Tony Coulter:

@ VP: Didn't see your name there, no. I think some pledges to this and other Drummer stream shows are probably ending up being credited to the station overall. Still counts, of course -- and many thanks for your pledge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/25/16 12:55pm annie:

have we reached the goal of 200 new SFLers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/25/16 12:55pm annie:

@ cecile: it's all ebb and flow, hon..
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:56pm Cecile:

well, I'm ebbing. Someone else needs to flow.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:58pm V Priceless:

hey, yer most welcome, Tony! I know my email receipt confirmed pledge went to your show...hmm.....it's all good, and yes, to those within eyeshot who have not pledged before, please do what you can, if you can. It simply doesn't get any better than FMU! OK,who wants up on the soapbox next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/25/16 12:58pm annie:

yepper, you done your share. i wuz watchin'
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 12:59pm Cecile:

Pledge because us old folks aren't going to live forever, and you don't want WFMU to go away!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:00pm Nick S.:

I will pledge again when my wife is not looking. How can you see who's pledged?
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:00pm Cecile:

Or pledge because you're going to die soon and you don't want to leave your money to them rotten kids.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:00pm Tony Coulter:

@ VP: Thought of another possibility: Perhaps the list of people who donated that I was given is not complete? Who knows.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:01pm Tony Coulter:

@ Nick S: I still can't see who's pledging. I'm given a list after the fact.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:02pm Nick S.:

Oh. You can see who pledged each fund drive on the listeners profile. It takes a little while to get posted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/25/16 1:02pm annie:

cecile, i've noticed that there are "legacy" pledges now... as in, "put it in your will"
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:02pm βrian:

My parents were of the "we're spending our kids' inheritance" persuasion.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:03pm Cecile:

yeah, Ken has been pushing that for awhile.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:03pm Cecile:

My dad was pretty good, but Canadian nickel futures are not what they once were. Hopefully, there will be an upswing before his estate is dispersed. Not like it's a fortune or anything.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:06pm βrian:

Yeah, my parents ended up slightly in the red. Their 220K house was only worth 80K, by the time we sold it. (Flint, don't you know.)
  Tue. 10/25/16 1:06pm Dean:

Dudes from Rhino Records, these Low Numbers.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:07pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Didn't know that! Interesting!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:07pm Cecile:

oh, yes, Flint.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:07pm βrian:

This is silly, Tony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/25/16 1:08pm annie:

i've been scheming on how to keep my SS coming after it's all said and done; who can i get to cash in on that whopping(not) income.
  Tue. 10/25/16 1:08pm Dean:

Harold Bronson, IIRC.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:09pm Cecile:

this is more like cabaret music than rock 'n' roll.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:09pm Nick S.:

Leila & the Snakes! lOVE THIS.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:10pm βrian:

I'm more inclined toward cabernet, myself.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:13pm Cecile:

Are they also looking for a love that's true, so get ready?
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:14pm Tony Coulter:

Yep, a love that's true, with plenty of goo.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:14pm V Priceless:

I Got Your Love...in my pants! : )
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:14pm Cecile:

Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:15pm V Priceless:

'pants' is such a funny word
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:15pm Nick S.:

Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:15pm Cecile:

it is...
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:16pm Cecile:

tony, do you have any of MX-80's fine 7" singles?
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: Yep, I do -- I love MX-80. Today's show is limited to singles I bought within the last year, though -- so they don't qualify.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:18pm Cecile:

oh, OK.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:19pm Guido from Cologne:

Oh Type!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:19pm βrian:

"In your pants," he panted.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Guido!!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:21pm Guido from Cologne:

Hey Tony!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:21pm Cecile:

I don't know if you were around when the joke happened, Brian, but it went a little something like this. Diane was playing "Loanshark" by Riot when I had this epiphany that every hard rock/metal title had the unspoken phrase of "in my pants" at its end. So "Loanshark in my pants" Or "Reigning blood in my pants", or "Highway to Hell in my pants"
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

So, one natural outcome of moving to Portland is that now when I go record-trawling I catch many more West Coast records than would have been the case when I was in NYC. Lots of new stuff for me to discover....
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:22pm Cecile:

I'll bet, Tony!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:24pm Nick S.:

Wazmo Nariz's singles and EP's are better than his 12" records.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:25pm Tony Coulter:

  Tue. 10/25/16 1:25pm MrFab:

Ha! I have this 45. Actually saw this nutter live.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:26pm V Priceless:

indeed...Cecile gets all the credit for creating that re-branding approach to song titles!' Touchy Feely People in my pants', etc.

whoa - the Legendary (inspired 'Ziggy') Stardust Cowboy!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:30pm βrian:

Stairway to heaven in my pants? I dunno.
  Tue. 10/25/16 1:30pm Dean:

Works really well for that one Sparks song.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:31pm V Priceless:

great Sinceros track...I recall this was pretty popular back in the day...at least on NY-area FM radio.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:31pm Tony Coulter:

"Do They Know It's Christmas in My Pants?"
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:32pm Cecile:

Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:32pm Cecile:

still works better with metal, but that works.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:33pm V Priceless:

Carsesque, too
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:33pm Nick S.:

I got this Sinceros record. I need to pull that out soon.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:34pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/25/16 1:36pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:36pm Nick S.:

Fisk was in Pell Mell, too!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:36pm Cecile:

Is that date right on the Sinceros? Your date has that single coming out 4 years before they formed.

Steve Fisk is great.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:37pm Cecile:

Yes, he was! One of my favorite bands.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:37pm Tony Coulter:

HEY! The show is half over and there hasn't been a single pledge!!! I've you haven't pledged yet this month please do consider doing so now!!

Hiya, doctorjazz!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:38pm V Priceless:

yeah, '74 seemed odd...could it be that ancient?
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:38pm V Priceless:

ahh..'79. OK!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:39pm Tony Coulter:

Yep, that was a typo -- thanks for catching that, Cecile!
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:40pm Cecile:

it sounded so ahead of its time, I had to go look it up...
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:41pm βrian:

John Prine has a few good candidates:

Christmas in Prison in my pants.
Please don't bury me in my pants.
Nine pound hammer in my pants.
The great compromise in my pants.
The list goes on ...
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:41pm V Priceless:

nice work, Cecile...it had me freaking out a little
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:42pm Nick S.:

Zach Swagger is in my pocket! This is great. His two singles are pricey.
  Tue. 10/25/16 1:43pm MrFab:

Hey, Twisted Roots! With Pat Smear from the Germs. Who would go on to join Foo Fighters, make a record with Sir Paul McCartney, and win a Grammy, a fact I still can't quite wrap my head around...
  Tue. 10/25/16 1:46pm Dean:

Played in Nirvana, too. The Germs were it. Loved them.
Avatar Tue. 10/25/16 1:46pm Nick S.:

Ha, counting the stars.
