I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

There are a bunch of vintage Disneyland maps on this blog www.burningsettlerscabin.com... and you can create a paper model! Like I did for this playlist.......

Also, we're in the silent fundraiser month now through the end of October... Would be much appreciated if you could donate to the station & help me reaching my goal by crediting your pledge to Play Vertigo...

Howdy Mayuko and pardners! Love that old-timey piano music!

Good afternoon james! How did things go in Atlantic City?
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 12:08pm Mayuko:

It's a re-interpretation of a day in Disneyland on Play Vertigo today! Extended to 3 hours because Disneyland was a bit too big to cover in 2 hours...

Good afternoon Mayuko, James and others. Pretty annoyed to be here today: the Vaudou Game show is sold out. Worse: the Kakushin Nishihara show in late November is already sold out too! I really didn't see that coming

Made a small donation to the local poker economy, but enjoyed myself a ton and didn't do a lick of work! And happy to have three hours today—will be working alongside!

Wow, the pledging system is even worse than during the regular marathon. If this doesn't improve by next year I won't even be able to pledge as much as I want
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 12:20pm Mayuko:

Oh my god! That is annoying, fred, you got some magic kingdom here instead, hope it helps a bit, haha.

An extra hour of vertigo will be magic enough for me. This Cambodian dance track is already making me happy to be here

  Sat. 10/8/16 1:28pm Mark R:

You're doing a great job keeping the crazy sounds spinning. It's a full-time thing--we'll pick up the slack out here. Come on you guys, if you like what you're hearing (and I know you do), help us stay on the air!

(Mayuko, let me know if you like what you hear of Michael Iceberg, I can send you a rip of his complete album)
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 1:32pm Mayuko:

Ha, I see! The designers need to argue for a couple of years how they define what TWLVP is first - like Disney's imagineers did for Rivers of America. I saw a bunch of people having super detailed discussion on the internet about the renewal of Rivers of America. Looking at its sketch from architectural point of view, etc. And they're not even staffers, just fans. They must be people like your friend, Dean! I was overwhelmed!
  Sat. 10/8/16 1:32pm P-90:

I rode this so many times when I was a kid, I never got tired of it. When you're little, these rides are like a dream you're having while awake. Then I dreamed about them in my sleep later...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 1:32pm fred:

@Jason: I think I remember that name. Did you play him on your show?
  Sat. 10/8/16 1:33pm Dean:

My only memories of Disneyland are quite old. I haven't been since high school in the mid-'70s. By then I was jaded.

Yeah, my buddy was seriously into the place, kept track of all the "secrets" such as the hidden Mickeys (which, come to think of it, would make a good band name).
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 1:35pm Mayuko:

famous original italianicewolf, welcome aboard! It's always fun to have your ride get stuck in Disneyland unless it's roller coaster... or even roller coaster... I watched a video someone took in Space Mountain, they got stacked and all the light turned on. That was funny.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 1:40pm fred:

I remember vividly the couple of times I got stuck in a stalled subway train going to a dance show. Not fun at all. And once I had to run around a student riot (last time I ever ran, something like 10 years ago). Always made it, but it was so close I got a seat way in the back

P-90 Many rides in Disneyland sure cultivated many of my dreams as a child too! And I think especially since I lived in a monocultural country, just to visually see that there are many different cultures and worlds out there was inspiring. Despite of the fact that they were not real, just fantasies.
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 1:49pm Mayuko:

james, an audio tour without waiting in a long long long line, unlike Disneyland! Glad you're enjoying it.

Another buddy of mine thought the Alice in Wonderland ride was like a good acid trip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 10/8/16 1:50pm listener james from westwood:

And no grossly overpriced food!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 1:54pm Mayuko:

Haha, I thought it should have been Dumbo ride that's trippy assuming from the film... but Alice in Wonderland is pretty trippy story anyway. And I liked that cup spinning ride thing too, another Play of Vertigo!
  Sat. 10/8/16 1:55pm P-90:

Dean: I highly recommend the Dr. Suess Land at Universal's Worlds of Wonder Park in Orlando. That really IS like physically being inside a good acid trip. And the Green Eggs and Ham are genuinely well-made and delicious
  Sat. 10/8/16 1:57pm Dean:

My 5YO just yesterday attended a Dr. Seuss event on a field trip. Here on the West Coast the go-to Seuss destination is the main library at UCSD.

Those tea cups are deceptive.

  Sat. 10/8/16 1:59pm rw:

Personally never done it, but I've had several friends through the years who would take acid and go to D-Land. I can't imagine. I think I'd have to just go hide in a corner somewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 10/8/16 1:59pm listener james from westwood:

I was 5 or fewer years old when Disney re-released this film. Saw it with my parents. Very trippy at that age.

  Sat. 10/8/16 2:03pm P-90:

The cool thing about the Teacups, they're one of the first rides they came up with unique to disneyland, is that kids can ride them when they're very little, but they're interactive: the kids can spin those wheels in the center and have some control over the speed and direction of the spinning cup they're getting dizzy in
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:03pm rw:

Now that you mention it... I believe one of those friends was the one who loaned a copy Fear and Loathing to me.
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:04pm rw:

P-90. Nothing cool about the Teacups for me. Not since I was VERY young. I get nauseous just thinking about them now!
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:07pm P-90:

"Fear and Loathing at Disneyland"
--narrated by Paul Frees, of course, doing a caricature voice impression of Hunter S.
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:07pm rw:

Though there is something compelling about spinning that wheel...
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:08pm P-90:

@rw right? It's great to give little kids that chance to have some control of the ride
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:08pm Dean:

Anybody remember the now forgotten metaphor, "E ticket"?
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:08pm Dean:

doo-KAH
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:09pm Dean:

I know three people who worked at Disneyland, and I'm married to one of them.
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:10pm P-90:

@Dean: some older writers still occasionally use that metaphor
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:11pm Dean:

Even today? That's impressive.

It was weird hearing of kinect as new, because a coworker did an installation using it around 5 years ago, and he wasn't impressed. Then again I work in a research lab
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:17pm P-90:

I liked Frontierland, coonskin caps and cigar-store indians, beavers, bears, canoes. It was a vision of our national myth of the history of the colonization of the Americas. It was OK. But I didn't love it the way I loved Tomorrowland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 2:22pm fred:

Looks like my pledge isn't showing up in your total. Probably because I split it with Marcel and the crappy software can't handle the options it offers. No worries, it all ends up in the right place
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:23pm rw:

Man, I've got a good story about taking my son and his friend to Disneyland when they were little. It's probably too long to tell here though... not sure if it would make sense typed out either...

Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:25pm Mayuko:

What, Dean! Please tell me your wife is one of the imagineers.
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:27pm Mayuko:

oh no fred! sorry about this pledge turmoil again... but I really appreciate your support, been since the very beginning of Play Vertigo!

And I guess Kinect really isn't new, I know someone who's used it before I left Tokyo too... but I guess it's becoming more popular...
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:28pm P-90:

Dean:please tell me your wife was inside Minnie Mouse. Or Daisy Duck...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 2:29pm fred:

I've never been to any Disneyland park. The closest I got was when a friend was living near the French one. It was eerie seeing it while walking along fields in the early morning after a party. Also weird was taking an early bus to their train station and seeing workers going into the place. Didn't look like a happy one at that hour
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:32pm geezerette:

Ray Bradbury used to visit the Imagineers all the time. He always wore shorts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 2:33pm fred:

@Mayuko: It's OK, I know that who gets credited doesn't matter, and that you believe me when I say I support your show. But I'll keep an eye on whether Marcel gets credited for my pledge. I'll write to Ken about the pledge system anyway, I just want to have as much feedback as I can
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:34pm Mayuko:

Welcome aboard, geezerette! Glad to have you here!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:36pm geezerette:

Hi Mayuko! This is much better than Disneyland!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:38pm Mayuko:

We've kinda moved on to Tiki-room-ish area from Frontierland now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 2:39pm fred:

Seeing "Fort Wingate" and "Song of Happiness" together looks quite jarring. But fitting for a Disney theme
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:41pm geezerette:

Haha, audioanimatronic performers. They don't belong to unions, don't take breaks, and can't complain. :)
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:45pm P-90:

...and the winner for "Adjective of the Week" is:

"Tiki-Room-Ish"
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:45pm Mayuko:

Oh yeah I've heard of labor issues in Tokyo Disneyland in recent years, sounded like it was terrible. That I certainly don't want to support!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 2:45pm fred:

@geezerette: I heard there was a new TV show based on that idea, but the name eludes me

Who'd 'a thunk they'd get a whole film series out of this ride?
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:46pm geezerette:

This is so great! The first fireflies I ever saw were in that ride, tiny lightbulbs on wire.
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:46pm Mayuko:

I should have had Flash Strap as my guest to make the tiki-room-ish part into real tiki-room :/
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:47pm P-90:

@fred: It's called "WestWorld"
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:47pm Mayuko:

Oh my god, geezerette, I DO remember that fireflies! Animatronic fireflies!!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:48pm Mayuko:

or maybe not animatronic, just because it's there doesn't necessarily mean it's animatronic...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 2:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I remember the Disney TV show on Sunday evenings. I wanted them to air cartoons each week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 2:49pm fred:

Both "doubloon" and "duplicate" translate to "doublon" in French. My boss trusts google translate more than me, so he always hypes his music ID tech as enabling people to find doubloons. It's tough to stand behind him looking bored when half the audience is stifling laughs
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:50pm Mayuko:

@james I was relieved for sure when they replaced a woman hiding from pirates in a barrel to Johnny Depp in this attraction.
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:52pm geezerette:

Mayuko, you're absolutely right, it is The Magic Kingdom after all.
(the pirates are audioanimatronic though...)
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:56pm mzzm:

Hey Mayu, I sent changes, donations for GDR shows.
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:57pm Mayuko:

By the way, I know we're almost at the very end, but we're doing the silent fundraiser at WFMU! Please pledge and help us stay alive! JM in the AM is leaving in Dec and we'll lose fans of him which will be a big shock to us. Help the station and ME who needs to make it to this mysterious goal!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 2:57pm Mayuko:

oh, hola mzzm, and thanks so much!!!!
  Sat. 10/8/16 2:58pm P-90:

@DJ Mayuko: you were absolutely right, this had to be a 3-hour special, there's no way to do justice to this concept in 2 hours. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 10/8/16 3:00pm fred:

Thanks Mayuko, you should do a 3-hour show every week, as Jason wisely said this would at least be more than your commute time.
And it's not just your goal, it's ours too. With Nachum leaving, we all need to help making the station we love outlast this new crisis
  Sat. 10/8/16 3:00pm rw:

Ha! Electrical Parade theme. Thanks Mayuko! Later kids!
  Sat. 10/8/16 3:01pm P-90:

This was an existing song when Disney picked it to e the theme for the nightly "Main St. Electrical Parade". Thy paid these guys a fortune for the rights.
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 3:03pm Mayuko:

This is my last track today! I'm so glad to have you all here with me on this magic ride! I had a lot of fun!!!!!!!
  Sat. 10/8/16 3:04pm P-90:

This was brilliantly done, Mayuko! I'll be listening again and recommending the archive to friends!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 3:04pm geezerette:

SUPER FUN SHOW Mouseketeer Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 10/8/16 3:05pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 3:06pm geezerette:

hahaha! :D
  Sat. 10/8/16 3:11pm P-90:

Eventually the "Baroque Hoedown" guys did make an arrangement.
It's part of the reason they switched to a "bullshit" imitation, they had to send a check every month, for each of the parks. And you can't blame Old Walt, he had been gone for several years, it was some of his jerk successors who thought they should try to get away with taking the music from this obscure 1967 record and not pay royalties...
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 3:13pm geezerette:

P-9: You have to admit, the place accurately reflects American values.
  Sat. 10/8/16 3:13pm Dean:

Sorry, checked out to go shopping.

My wife was one of the Matterhorn bobsled track greasers.

Just kidding: she worked in food services at one of the overpriced cafes.
  Sat. 10/8/16 3:14pm P-90:

Thanks again, Mayuko!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 3:16pm Mayuko:

Ah thank you for the detailed info about Baroque Hoedown, P-90! I was really sad when they stopped using that music... but I understand things around royalties can be complicated...
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 3:16pm Mayuko:

THANK YOU again all for listening, and pledges! Have a beautiful week, everyone!
Avatar Sat. 10/8/16 3:17pm geezerette:

Can't wait to share this show. Have a great week Mayuko!
