This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Mayuko, to quote Bart Simpson, "Everyone knows the best bands work for Satan anyway."
And yes, I'd likely ease up on finishing the proofreading I'm working on right now and switch to alcohol!
Avatar 7:14pm
geezerette:

Mayuko I think all the fun people get left behind while less playful types are raptured "up" to heaven. So everyone should be happy!

Kain was hitting Kipling pretty hard, now Jason Guy is coming for the rest of the imperialists
Avatar 8:45pm
geezerette:

It's so sad that the crazy things we're living through;the deterioration of environment and problems caused by over population, were being written about, spoken about, nearly half a century ago and "we"let them happen anyway. Just context for this music...
Carter had solar panels on White House Roof,Reagan took them down.

Evan you're playing extraordinary things tonight!
Avatar 8:48pm
geezerette:

The Last Poets were shamans for real.
Clear vision.
Avatar 8:49pm
Flash Strap:

Thanks, G. I feel the same way, the music of this period is a portal to a future we decided not to pursue, to the detriment of all, particularly the precarious among us
Avatar 8:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lonnie Holley would work in here.
Outstandings.
Avatar 8:51pm
Flash Strap:

Hey Rev Rab! Love Lonnie Holley
Avatar 8:51pm
geezerette:

The anger we're hearing is "righteous" anger.
Avatar 8:58pm
Flash Strap:

It's pretty well-founded; if it's at times problematic from a certain perspective, that's usually irrelevant to the broader message and its context. I mean, the relatively mild Black Lives Matter is somehow a controversial movement in this country NOW. All the anger of the 70's seems pretty righteous in the face of this nation's persistent dragging of its feet on the way to an emancipatory future.
Avatar 9:02pm
northguineahills:

@geezerette, all of the topics you mentioned were talked about 150 years ago (minus Carter's solar panels), nothing changes, or if it does, it does at a glacial pace, and then we slip back before 'progress' of sort is made.
Avatar 9:04pm
Flash Strap:

That's why I like connecting this music to themes in 16-17th c. Flemish painting!
Avatar 9:04pm

@NGH: Absolutely true.

The Founding Fathers were Slavers. It's foundational in the U.S. I'm afraid.
To address the national Crisis in Racial Injustice - it will have to be made a National Priority just as Civil Rights had to become in the 1960s. Seems to me.
