Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm

Good afternoon Jason and everyone. Except mauri, I guess it's good evening for you.
I'm late (work...) but just in time for a Vietnamese track

Found this record at the record fair last year...
Unknown as far as I can tell.
Avatar 4:02pm
Jason Elbogen:

oops I should have googled it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
fred:

Is it the one on Chant du Monde? I'm pretty sure someone has played it before, but I don't remember who did
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Parq:

Well, this is a shift in mood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Webhamster Henry:

This reminds me of me with my feedback in 1973! I got that out of my system back then though.

Hey Jason, Fred Hellerman, the last of the Weavers has died. Got any deep cut Weavers for us?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
coelacanth:

Greetings Jason i forgot the drummer stream has programming now on fri afteruncles. i'm usually working but i'm listening now and so glad you're here, as the main fmu station is an unbearable void on friday from 3-7 pm. Thanks.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
coelacanth:

what if you lined up the 25 or 50 or 100 or however many tracks you tentatively plan to play and as each one is playing choose from those which one would sound good following it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Parq:

"50 Skadillion Watts" is a great name for a label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Congrats on the star, holland oats. www.variety.com...

(...or is that too flying-by-the-seat-of-your-pants..?)
Avatar 5:03pm
Mayuko:

@coelacanth see-la-kanth is how we call that ancient looking fish in Japanese, and I always wondered if that's how it's called in English too or not, the spelling is confusing! Now I understand!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
coelacanth:

hahaha! i think you've succeeded in out-weirding anything i've heard on Vocal Fry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
Webhamster Henry:

She's great! I think, Shelley Hirsch can do this too! It's hell on your larynx. But Sainkho already has a leather larynx from throat singing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
Parq:

This sounds like a lamb on acid. Mind you, I'm not complaining, but I am glad that all my coworkers are gone for the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
fred:

Cool Sainkho Namtchylak track. I'm not a fan of her overtone singing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
coelacanth:

Mayuko it's latin so there may be local names for it but i suppose the latin name is accepted everywhere?
(i am that ancient fish!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
Webhamster Henry:

The Internet sez: mid 19th century: from modern Latin Coelacanthus (genus name), from Greek koilos ‘hollow’ + akantha ‘spine’ (because its fins have hollow spines).

I had to take a nap and just read Henry's comment about the last of the Weavers dying. That's sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm

@fred from earlier Doug S played Chant du Monde today in his second set featuring Spanish of an early vintage.

My manners, hello Jason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Webhamster Henry:

I knew Fred Hellerman's cousin, who is also very nice, a musician, and very deaf! I hope he's still alive, he's in his 90s!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
coelacanth:

Fred had a pretty good run. still, sad to lose him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
fred:

@Brian: I think they have released a lot of amazing stuff, but I don't know how many have been re-released or are available somehow. I remember that my grandmother had 78s, and that the label was somehow connected to the French communist party. But that was almost 40 years ago
Avatar 5:35pm
Jason Elbogen:

Brian--I'm pretty laid back.
