Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:12am Doug Schulkind:

Is there a better stage name in music than Peetie Wheatstraw?
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:13am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks, chromaphone. I really don't know how I am going to get it all done. So much... work.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:14am Doug Schulkind:

@Mr C
The farmer's daughter is my executive producer.
  Fri. 9/2/16 9:15am Lore:

@Doug re stage names of old time blues artists: Peanut the Kidnapper is also up there, I think, as is the enigmatic Freezone.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:16am chromaphone:

Doug, I am back in school too actually to get certified as a teacher, and last summer I just had to keep my head down and slog through it. Kind of sucked and still haven't gotten a new job but will pay off soon hopefully.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:17am Doug Schulkind:

@Lore
Peanut the Kidnapper loses on alliteration, but wins on evocative mental imagery.

@chromaphone
G'luck to you, Sir.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:19am chromaphone:

Thanks. Man that was such an intense guitar tone Sherwood had there.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:20am chromaphone:

Oh, I guess he wasn't playing guitar....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 9:20am Brian in UK:

Doug, I had to study about eightenn years ago to be an Industrial Engineer. Not easy, gets your arse twitching sometimes especially as there are 'youngsters' in the class. Once you find a groove it will draw you in. Not a question of talent but application.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:20am Doug Schulkind:

More intense guitar coming up on the next one...
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:21am chromaphone:

Kind of sounded like Johnny Guitar Watson.

Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:22am Doug Schulkind:

@mauri
When your groceries is beer, then you have reached the mountaintop.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:23am Doug Schulkind:

@Brian in UK
Not worried about the talent. Just the time. When I am supposed to be getting this all done, I wonder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 9:26am Brian in UK:

There are some wonderful modern flamenco dancers (dressed down) as well as the traditional (drssed to the nines). You have to be there like most worthwhile musical experiences.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 9:50am Leonardo:

The voice quality of flamenco singers always interests me. I asked a guy who sang with a local flamenco ensemble about how he achieved and maintained that very particular sound. He said his previous years singing everything from screaming punk to varied things in Cerberus Shoal had pushed and practiced and prepped the pipes.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:53am ndbob:

wondering why this is called Hungarian Rag -based on something classical?
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:54am βrian:

My, it's a nice day on the isthmus. I feel like I'm listening via a backyard can-and-string walkie-talkie. Gotta keep it taught.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 9:56am Doug Schulkind:

Maybe I'll write my dissertation on that, ndbob.

Doug, as a Maine coast appreciator/visitor, you should think about a trip with the fam to Monhegan Island. I was there a few days this week and had a great time. Rugged rock/cliff east shore for viewing/scrambling, woods trails, appealing village and even a wee brewery!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:30am Little Danny:

That drum track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:30am Little Danny:

More of a black widow kinda summer alas Doug
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:31am Flash Strap:

Boy we used to have to do that in Mexico. Hit paydirt more than twice but never got stung. They love waiting for you in the shower too
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:32am Little Danny:

Except for the occasional vinegaroon (ugh), the scorpions we have here are actually kinda cute - tiny little guys.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:32am Doug Schulkind:

I know folks in New Mexico who have black widows all over. I know a gal in North Carolina with brown recluses all over.

Get me outta here.

it's the Funnel Webs you gotta watch out for down here... they like the sleeves of your jackets

the worst thing, in those ol Mex days, was all the tarantula drop-bys. They'd just sidle up and scare the daylights out of you, looking like a disembodied hand in a black silk glove

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:37am Leonardo:

I like the vibe here, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:37am Little Danny:

I've never been repelled by tarantulas the way some are. Certain years they can seen crossing ranch roads around here by the hundreds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 10:38am melinda:

Also like the Augustus Pablo talkover music.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:38am Doug Schulkind:

Just like the worm, Little Danny, the vibe will turn.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:39am Doug Schulkind:

Dylany yes, Leonardo. And this is even more so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 10:39am Uncle Michael:

It's always so weird when Dylan's singing voice sounds like his speaking voice.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:40am Flash Strap:

I love em too, but I jump like a nut when they show up next to me on the couch.

They really are the coolest creatures though
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:40am mauri:

Oops I forgot headphones in the running shorts pocket which went through washing machine. Damn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:41am Little Danny:

Townes van Zandt nicked a bit of Dylan's groove here
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 10:41am Brian in UK:

Those butchers boys are trouble.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:42am Flash Strap:

Self Portrait is so good. Really good to hear this
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 10:43am Brian in UK:

@Little Danny ever hear Dylan tell a cheesy joke like Townes?
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:43am Doug Schulkind:

I kid I knew back in college worked at the local grocery store. (It was called Fazio's, but we called it Price Fixio's because the company got busted for price fixing.) Anyway, this kid worked in produce. One day, a tarantula came spilling out of a banana sack, and he took the critter home as a pet.

Get me outta here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:44am Little Danny:

God I love the Charlie Tweddle album so much
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:44am Doug Schulkind:

@Little Danny
Was close to including Townes in this set, but it seemed too literal. (As I said, the wormvibe will be turning.)
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:45am Doug Schulkind:

Charlie Tweddle is a maker of hats now, if I remember correctly.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:45am chromaphone:

Who allowed the liquor in the recording studio?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:45am Little Danny:

That is indeed correct Doug
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:46am still b/p:

Just like the song say-o: "Beautiful bunch of ripe banana, hide the deadly black tarantula."
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:47am Doug Schulkind:

The pigeon brought the liquor in, chromaphone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:48am coelacanth:

Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:55am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:56am βrian:

Sounds like Kermit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/2/16 10:57am Little Danny:

Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 10:57am Doug Schulkind:

I adore you, βrian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 11:00am Brian in UK:

PS as he runs out the door, typo on Keith Richards. Byeeee.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 11:01am Doug Schulkind:

You get points deducted for copyediting without beer, Brian in UK.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 11:01am ndbob:

@Doug scrolling back here - do you know what he named the tarantula?
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 11:03am Doug Schulkind:

That was 34 years ago, ndbob. No.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/2/16 11:04am melinda:

@Doug: First Blues is the only one I was aware of. I was watching Youtube vids of his Father Death Blues, which I love, and saw that it is on this album. It's on my list of things to buy eventually.
Avatar Fri. 9/2/16 11:05am chromaphone:

What an awesome set that was.
