Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 3:11am joeray:

"Continuous play" mode should be more apparent on broadcast cd players!!!
  Sun. 8/14/16 3:15am Mike tp:

Good morning Mark. Can't go wrong with some blues. Was hot here in Portland too today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 3:18am pacific standard simon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 3:22am pacific standard simon:

Even Graham Nash won't have anything to do with David Crosby anymore. That's sayin' something!
  Sun. 8/14/16 3:24am Mark R:

Morning, everybody. Whenever it's this hot, the blues feels right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 3:29am pacific standard simon:

It's hot in the Pacific Northwest, too. Baseball on the radio weather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 3:42am pacific standard simon:

That should be BRUCE Thomas on bass. Persona non grata with Elvis, too.
Avatar Sun. 8/14/16 3:43am Steve from Columbia MD:

Great show so far.. You're keeping me up. What happened there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 3:44am joeray:

Moving on
  Sun. 8/14/16 3:48am Mark R:

Not for the first time, I might add. I should change the name of my show to "Nothing's on the air!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 3:50am fred:

Good morning Mark and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 3:51am pacific standard simon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 3:54am pacific standard simon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 3:58am pacific standard simon:

...and some lilting Steeleye Span lyrics...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 4:01am pacific standard simon:

...and we MUST have some NRBQ, because this is WFMU, and this is Terry Adams' birthday...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 4:03am pacific standard simon:

...um, yeah, Peter Blegvad. Bet that will be covered tomorrow night.
Avatar Sun. 8/14/16 4:05am Mary Wing:

Mark never looks to see if the needles are moving on the board, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 4:06am joeray:

...or to turn turntable channel back on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 4:06am pacific standard simon:

The Moving Needles. Good band name.
  Sun. 8/14/16 4:06am Mark R:

Because I'm an idiot, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 4:13am joeray:

The old broadcast mixers with rotary potentiometers and big knobs were less confusing than these crappy newfangled boards!!!
  Sun. 8/14/16 4:18am Mark R:

Oh, it's not the board! It's the board operator! I keep leaving the turntable in cue mode, and then not looking at the VU meters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 4:23am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...all that excellent Jazz - hadda get outta bed & check iTunes hadn't skipped to WWOZ! Heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 4:27am pacific standard simon:

I worked out the timeline, once -- my parents conceived me either on the weekend that Allen Ginsberg first read "Howl" in public, or the weekend that James Dean was killed. Early October, '55.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 4:31am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I was born less than 24 hours before TheBeatles did the Royal Command Performance & John said 'rattle your jewelry'. Musta been conceived around when their 1st album was being put together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 4:33am pacific standard simon:

It's a fine day for bass players.
Avatar Sun. 8/14/16 4:36am greysquad:

ha! I remember hearing that mitch ryder/Detroit tune back in the day on wabx in Detroit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 8/14/16 4:37am pacific standard simon:

Tommy Bolin on guitar
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 4:42am fred:

The evolution of Prince Rama has been fascinating. They remained a good live band throughout, and very nice people from what I heard
Avatar Sun. 8/14/16 4:42am greysquad:

it's only rock and roll....
www.youtube.com...
  Sun. 8/14/16 4:47am Mark R:

That brings back memories--that was a spoof of their competitor's commercial, WRIF. The truth is the magic had left WABX many years before that. Til about '72 or '73 they were a freeform station, actually inspired by WFMU. But they were also a commercial station, and you know how that goes, inevitably, eventually...there's more money in repetitious programming than risking losing listeners by playing something "weird."
  Sun. 8/14/16 4:47am Mark R:

Whereas we get to play whatever we want here. So poverty has its upside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 4:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You can remember that constant state of flux radio was in then that way. Was yer fave Rawk station getting boring...
Avatar Sun. 8/14/16 4:51am greysquad:

I agree... I started listening to wabx around 1980 or so...wrif killed Detroit radio as far as I remember... but honestly I was listening to WDET more back than...
  Sun. 8/14/16 5:14am Mark R:

It's that time of night when the night owls are drifting off to sleep and the early birds aren't quite with it yet...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 5:16am fred:

Well, it's 11am here (and 10 in the UK) so Europe should soon be checking in
  Sun. 8/14/16 5:18am Mark R:

Well then everybody's just all talked out...
Sun. 8/14/16 5:21am Alessandro from Italy:

Thanks for my favourite Claudio (Monteverdi)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 5:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...we're all incensed...
Episode Six had future Deep Purple persons? Maybe a few lineups? & who listens to the earliest Purple anymore anyhow?
  Sun. 8/14/16 5:24am Mark R:

Glad you dug it, Alessandro!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 5:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'The Band' just came out sounding like it had always been.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 5:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& Buddy Holly like he always will be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/14/16 5:58am fred:

Thanks Mark, I hope you'll find a cool place for the rest of the day
