Looking at the Glastonbury Festival splash page, I see drones are illegal there, there's important news about legal highs, and there are tips for those bringing babies and toddlers to the event.
Cripes, where did *anything goes* go?

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/20/16 9:34am sphere:

morning. Sem, people forget that the U.S. Army provided food and medical supplies to the original Woodstock. so "anything goes" may be harder to find than we might think.

@BiUK: very witty, Wilde, very witty.
@sphere: you may count me among those who forgot that. I blame the Caipirinhas.

i love a good Temporary Autonomous Zone as much as anyone, but they are tricky beasts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/20/16 9:43am Brian in UK:

The original Glastonbury was just a small local affair not the big sellout (in more ways than one) that Woodstock became. Going to the farm to buy milk from Michael Eavis (not brucellosis accredited) no one arriving by helicopter more like an old ambulance.

@bobdoesthings - I think I remember Uncle Michael doing all TV themes once...though it may have actually been just an hour...I'll try to find a link to the archive.

" Ironically, the song's popularity is partly due to it being misinterpreted as a "driving song", leading it to appear on compilation albums such as Summer Cruisin' and Top Gear (a spin-off from the BBC Television motoring show of the same name)." Hah.

I know this. I'm just not into his particular form of complaining. hahahaha
Avatar Mon. 6/20/16 10:24am Joe McG:

@Marcel: I think these kind of misinterpretations are common. Remember when everyone thought "The One I Love" was a love song?

I would not have expected Paul Simon to cover VU.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/20/16 10:26am Andrew Waterloo:

In general people expect pop music to follow specific patterns. The title capturing the sentiment of the song is one of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/20/16 10:27am Cecile:

no, it's the sound of silence. Better than the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/20/16 10:27am Marcel M:

@Joe: True! Another fairly obvious one, too.

this arrangement already makes the song better because they have absolutely no clue.
  Mon. 6/20/16 10:39am melinda:

Damn, I missed the Taxi theme. Joe you're right about forming early impressions of NYC from TV. I didn't figure out until much later that those shows were filmed on sets in LA.

@Sem did not say it was the right understanding.

@Cecile gor blimey that's us to a T and if we leave Europe this week we will up anchor and float across the sea to visit you folks and set up shop off Florida like they did five hundred years ago. Alvar Nunes Cabeza de Vaca rules.

Lightly steamed snap peas are a theme, lately. That and strawberry shortcake with maple-sweetened whipped cream.

We are an island race that pilfered (stole) from half the world in the last three centuries and now people are complaining that we are captive to Europe and the European Union and we want freedom to govern ourselves. Unbelievable.

@βrian pea shoots are tasty little morsels too.

Just picked some fresh rocket and mizuna, so vibrant in flavour. Mizuna goes well in a ham butty use it as a mustard substitute.
Avatar Mon. 6/20/16 11:09am βrian:

I was thinking about Mizuna as a succession crop. The garlic will be done soon.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/20/16 11:19am Cecile:

Wow, that Zappa thing is interesting.
It is breaking down by age - the two youngest are trying to control the two oldest. And wow, Mom repossessing your guitars? I know Frank was a control freak, but I don't know if he would approve of that.

Some local growers have taken on ginger here. It takes some doing, because basically you have to create a passive sauna.

I made a pretty delicious tangerine and ginger marmalade a few weeks ago from my neighbor's tangerine tree and store bought ginger and sugar. Only two jars left. Wish I had enough for everybody.

Rejoining the throng. I see that there was a thread on Zappa a bit back. I saw the trailer for the new Zappa doc ("Eat That Question") at Film Forum yesterday, and it looks like, well, pretty much exactly what you would expect.

Brian there are some farmers here in Maine growing ginger and turmeric too. The fresh ginger is quite pretty.
Avatar Mon. 6/20/16 11:39am Joe McG:

@Brian: I don't know! He played guitar nice (but not as nice as Richard Thompson), sang a bit like Dylan, wrote a few nice tunes. Why "Brothers in Arms" is one of the best-selling albums ever is a puzzle to me.
