If you listen closely to this Howlin' Wolf song, you can hear him make a small mistake in the vocal delivery.
Avatar 2:19pm
Nutley Sam:

Matt, if Nokie could hear he would love that song but I would make him listen to the Jack Benny radio show. Then he would ask me if I was in the Piggies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Matt F:

Then you would say no and play him the Piggies and he would wish he were deaf.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Alex In Illinois:

I was referring to Bang-Shang-a-Lang by the Archies. There was a time when Archies records were available from Honeycomb Cereal boxes. You would see the circle, and you would cut a long the dotted line, and then punch the hole in it, and you would have a cardboard record to play. Sugar Pops had them too, but all of the songs were by the "Sugar Bears". Before you would get tired of the record, the humidity would change and the cardboard record would warp, with two opposing sides bending upwards.

Alex In Illinois:

I meant "two opposing edges bending upwards".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
drr:

I remember peeling one of those cereal box records off the cardboard in pieces to see if we could lay it on a regular record and get the record player to do a kind of mashup.

Coal Mine, a perfect record.

Artie Haywire:

Punching that center hole correctly was really tricky, and critical to avoiding crazy playback speed variations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Alex In Illinois:

Thanks Webmaster Henry! That is exactly them! I forgot about the Bobby Sherman ones, and I don't recall where they came from, but I know we had one of those too. My sister was 4 years old at the time, and like Bobby Sherman. I think I recall a Sugar Bears record sounding a lot like a Bobby Sherman record.

Parq:

Henry, Mac's collection is exactly what I thought of, too, when I saw Alex's post. I didn't know it had been digitized. This changes everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm

Vibrators next? Just a thought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Webhamster Henry:

Thanks! MAC and I put together the Flexi museum a long time ago! Sometime in the next few months, we'll meet to update it, because somehow Flexi/Oddity disks tend to migrate to MAC. It's one of those leftovers from the early online days of WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Webhamster Henry:

Hers's some nearly related info: the man who voiced Sugar Bear, Gerry Matthews, has a weird museum of his on in Wall Walla, WA. So you got yer museum, and yer Sugar Bear.

Sounds like more Doors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
Webhamster Henry:

When "If I Fell" came out, I didn't know it was the Beatles, it sounded so different. When I found out, that's when I realized they had taken over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
Matt F:

Yup! Their early stuff is the best!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Matt F:

Meaning the Doors, of course.
Avatar 3:22pm
Parq:

Read a play once where the actors notes called on them to prepare for the performance by, among many other things, thinking about the look on Ringo's face after they tease him and he sits down to the drums on "If" in "Hard Day's".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

I'm pretty sure the record we destroyed in our mashup attempt was that spooky one on the bottom left: www.wfmu.org...

Their post-Beatles work, especially by Lennon and Harrison,is extraordinary. They allowed themselves to grow and I respect that.
