Great show in Portsmouth last month!

Digging the sounds, Ira. I thought this Ten Year's After track was something from the 50s or something--very cool.

Damn, missed K-Doe! Oh well... hi everyone, Ira!

Hello all. IRA for IRWIN Swap going swimmingly well! GO ALVIN!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm

Reminds me of that Sabbath track from Live at Last, the jazzy break they put in the middle of Wicked World.
  3:18pm
markreichard:

I like the Texas Instruments track, too. It has sort of a Television-y vibe for me, instumentally. Anybody else hear that?
  3:20pm
bobsmart567:

Nice snare on that Texas Instruments!
  Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Ira:

Hmm, a little off center, this 45.

Who else died on stage? The guy from Morphine, but who else?
  3:39pm
Ernst:

That's actually really interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Parq:

Mariano, right off the top of my head, the guitarist from Stone the Crows was electrocuted on stage by an improperly grounded guitar.
  3:45pm
Fredericks:

The Q sounds just fine, Ira. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Parq:

Update, it was a mike, not a guitar. The guy was Les Harvey, whose brother was the Sensational Alex Harvey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hey there, Ira and Iranians.

@mariano - The singer for The Beat Farmers, Country Dick Montana, died on stage. Would you count Dimebag Darrel as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
mariano:

Thanks for the info, @Parq & @Ken -- personally I'd count Dimebag, poor guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm

Dick Shawn very famously died onstage. Had a heart attack, everybody thought he was doing a bit, until they realized he wasn't kidding and it was too late to do anything (in fairness, he might have died anyway).

Lorenzo San DuBois.

John Lennon was named in Cheryl Crow's "Maybe

I think Irwin is supposed to clean the bathrooms.
  4:13pm
P-90:

Irwin doesn't seem like the kind of guy who wouldn't do his chore. Does he?
  4:13pm
MONEYBAG$:

Ira, just vacuum with the mic on. Maybe turn on some reverb.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
mariano:

Thanks @JP!
  4:14pm
berbo:

No, vacuum cleaning is Irwin's assigned chore. He voluntarily cleans the bathrooms for the fun of it.
  4:15pm
mark r:

There's a chart in the kitchen and on the elevator. This is fascinating inside info for listeners who haven't been to the station, a peek behind the curtain, as it were. Like most peeks behind the curtain, you usually end up understanding the function of curtains more than anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
Parq:

Wow, JP, Redd Fox and Dick Shawn *both* had their deaths mistaken for a part of their acts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
melinda:

Ultimate Care II sounds like the name of a vacuum cleaner or other appliance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm

"Dancing with Joey Ramone," Amy Rigby, "I Want to Be Your Joey Ramone," Sleater Kinney, "The Miracle of Joey Ramone," U2.

This is such a WFMU moment. Live vacuuming over a track created from samples of washing machine sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

You missed a spot, Ira.
Avatar 4:19pm

Matmos uses the washing machine in the live show supporting the album, or so i hear.

Maybe Irwin could do this over a Joe Frank episode

@sphere they do! sadly, I missed the Chicago stop.

Cliff:

Aww jeez, I went out for a walk and missed Matmos. Well I could always go down to the basement and bang on the washing machines with some sledgehammers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
JP from KC:

You won't replicate this performance, Cliff. Ira was vacuuming live on-air while it played.
  4:36pm
Cliff:

Well I gotta listen to that on the archives, then!
  Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Ira:

Joey Ramone! Do the Fleshtones or Ronnie Spector mention him by name too? (I can't check right now.)
  4:44pm
P-90:

"Dark Star"! I was going nuts trying to remember where this was from-had to check the playlist. The USC student film of John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon, later fleshed out for theatrical release. NGC 891 is an actual nebula, up there in the sky.

Is John Carpenter the composer on the Dark Star track?

P-90:

I suspect the corny old-fashioned "dance hall" music that plays after the computer voice announces "Martin Segundo and the Scintilla Strings" came from a catalog of stock music cues you can buy for your movie for a few bucks. Not like Carpenter's later synth-based stuff at all. The joke was that the astronauts stuck on this multi-year space mission would have to listen to this muzak on board. "When Moonlight Falls on NGC 891" is a Jetsons-ish joke about an old-fashioned big-band type song title with an astronomical reference thrown in.

Checking in late, unfortunately, but loving it. Julius LaRosa ... I think his career was derailed by Arthur Godfrey on live TV, but you've probably gone over this. And as far as stage deaths ... the only thing that comes to mind is Gary Thain from Uriah Heep who was electrocuted onstage ... died later of complications. Always remember ...
