@Ausmanx: I recall the Dilbert Principal from the 1990's, that promoting people to management is the way to lift the less productive people out of the way of the workflow.

One of the things I like best about Manet is how, en Anglais, his name sounds in the possessive declension: mayonnaise paintings.

It opened in '86. I was there in '87, having worked a bit at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, before heading to the continent to play.

Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 11:28am Jeff Golick:

Went to d'Orsay in the mid-1990s. It was overwhelming. I kinda OD'd on musées on that trip. The l'Orangerie was my fave, largely because it's small. But also for the Modiglianis.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 11:28am Doug Schulkind:

Good things come to those who wait?
  Fri. 5/13/16 11:29am Dean:

Dang, no, Brian. Would love to have visited. Also, I'd love to have seen the Warburg library.

Dean you have such good taste. Just have to say that.
  Fri. 5/13/16 11:32am Dean:

I was thinking this a.m. about the poop show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 5/13/16 11:32am Brian in UK:

Dean I had a road to Damascus there with Monet's Antibes. There were skylights all round the gallery room and as I sat and looked at it the sun came out. The painting came alive. Words are a poor substitute. It is such a bold painting you have to see it to appreciate Monet's skill.

I remember visiting the National Gallery in '84 and walking into the room where this and its companion hang: https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/robert-campin-a-woman I knew the painting from books. Or so I thought. Seeing the actual paintings filled me with joy.
