Day Three

The Rainforest World Music Festival takes place every summer at the fascinating Sarawak Cultural Village outside of Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, on the spectacular tropical island of Borneo. It's a great festival at a remarkable site and Rob was fortunate enough to be invited by the Sarawak Tourism Board to attend this past August.

Tonight's show looks at day three of the three-day gathering, with concert excerpts, a musical taste of one of the many festival multi-artist cross-cultural workshops, and interview or press conference sound bites from the performers. You’ll also hear festival MC Hendrick Foh, host of The Borneo Broadcast, deliver his colorful stage intros for the artists.

For more, check out Rob's shows covering day one and day two of the festival.

Also recommended: Manhuman Rao’s superb coverage of the festival, with excellent photos, for World Music Central.

The next Rainforest World Music Festival will be August 5 to 7, 2016. Featuring among many others, Ghanian highlife great Pat Thomas, Southwest China’s visionary trad-rock band Shanren, Stelios Petrakis Cretan Quartet - which recently gave a great performance at globalFEST in NYC, tri-cultural fiddle-wizards Violons Barbares, Cuban a cappella icons Vocal Sampling, engaging UK-based Ethiopian trio Krar Collective, and of course an array of excellent ensembles from peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, plus lots more. Tickets and info at http://rwmf.net/.

Was just out for a stroll on the Walkway Bridge and streaming the program. Sounded great!
     Sat. 4/16/16 7:47pm Listener Robert:

The percussion on this one sounded like it went with the typing animation on the sound bite of the day graphic on the WFMU home page.
     Sat. 4/16/16 7:54pm Listener Robert:

Thanks, Ken from Hyde. I just Google mapped where you were & see it's a rails-to-trails conversion of which I'd not been aware. Does it admit bicycles?
Avatar    Sat. 4/16/16 7:57pm Rob W:

Any similarity to the typing animation is purely coincidental but certainly possible!
     Sat. 4/16/16 8:02pm Listener Robert:

Psychologic entrainment, I'm sure, Rob W. But the kind of percussion used at that point did sound like typewriter keys hitting the paper on a platen roll.

greetings Rob and palanese
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/16/16 8:12pm coelacanth:

very pretty vox
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/16/16 8:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Robert. I think they allow anything that doesn't have a motor in it. www.walkway.org
     Sat. 4/16/16 8:57pm Listener Robert:

Thanks, Ken from Hyde. Google Maps also provided a link to it. It's wide enough, and it'd be asking people a lot to have to dismount at either end.
     Sat. 4/16/16 8:59pm Listener Robert:

The Old Croton Aqueduct Trail has a bridge on it with no guard rails that's signed for walking only, but it's plenty wide, and you can be pretty safe biking down the middle. I've seen other bridges on ped trails alongside vehicle lanes that are too narrow to accommodate ped + bike, but I've done it anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/16/16 9:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Almost no one walks their bikes, that I've seen. I've biked it quite a few times and haven't been asked to walk it. Use common sense, don't speed and keep an eye out for kids darting around and crossing by bike will go smoothly. Thanks for tonight's show, Rob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 4/16/16 9:00pm coelacanth:
