Good Afternoon Liz!

Good afternoon Liz and liznerers. I'm going to see People Like Us at last tonight, I'm so psyched!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 12:07pm Parq:

Fred, she did a stand at the Record Fair some years back. You're in for a knock-out.

Suicide! HI Liz, and yuz.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 12:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Liz and Lizzeners. Three more days until taxes are due! (Well, maybe more if they are in fact not due until Monday or Tuesday.) www.irs.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 12:18pm Liz Berg:

The new Akpatok album is also released as a CD if the digital world ain't your thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 12:22pm fred:

That sounded more Mongolian than Polish to me, which is high praise from me. But this show demands more focus
  Tue. 4/12/16 12:24pm Charley:

Liz, I have your show on in my wine shop. Customers dig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 12:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Gosh, not only is there a Chris T. Aerial View episode link on the main page, but also a new Dave Emory For the Record episode. I didn't realize he was still recording. I'm going to have to grow some more ears to listen to all this stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 12:26pm Liz Berg:

Cheers, Charley!
  Tue. 4/12/16 12:30pm Daniel Aldo:

If I had a wine shop, I'd put it on too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 12:33pm Liz Berg:

This Adam Matta track is all layered beatboxing, no drum machines, horns, synths, etc... pretty amazing!

Under "Recently Archived" look for "Aerial View."
  Tue. 4/12/16 1:36pm Clay:

Don't know if any of you saw the movie, "Witch," but it was really excellent in my opinion. Created a strong buzz in the audience and in the lobby later. Even later, the strong buzz continued, though aided. Liz - Sounding good as always! :>)
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 1:38pm mariano:

I've read a good review or two of Witch, I really want to see it.
  Tue. 4/12/16 1:40pm Clay:

You will dig it Mariano - It far exceeded my expectations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 1:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Dumpcake - I was going to reply, but Liz beat me to it. I'd like to add that there was a steak restaurant in Hopewell Junction, NY, that had a dessert choice called the Dump Cake. The place eventually closed, but might be open with a different name and management now. No idea if they serve dumpcakes there anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 1:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Oh yeah, the restaurant was called The Stockyard.

So.....vote for Fwump?
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:06pm herb.nyc:

the "lam phaen ..." song, as backtracked by Liz, reminds me of French, Frith, Kaiser, Thompson's "hai sai oji san" (sp?). didn't know a law firm can sing a good tune, rt?
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:06pm herb.nyc:

good point, Cliff.

Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:09pm herb.nyc:

my friend may see TACOCAT tonight, and asked me to go, at mercury lounge! i heard one song, "i hate the weekend". really good, sounds Royal Headache-y.
  Tue. 4/12/16 2:11pm Polyus:

There is a restaurant in my town called Tacocat as well. Greasy bike messengers make and deliver your tacos.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:14pm βrian:

@Polyus: Hmm, I wonder if that would work for pasties. Pasties and beer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 2:15pm Liz Berg:

Tacocat and the pasties and beer combo seem like search engine optimization to me.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:15pm herb.nyc:

via TACOCAT descrip on bowerypresents.com One of the weirdest things humans do is to classify half of all humans as niche. As though women’s shit isn’t real shit—as though menses and horses and being internet-harassed aren’t as interesting as beer-farts and monster trucks and doing the harassing. That’s why Tacocat is radical: not because a female-driven band is some baffling novelty, but because they’re a group making art about experiences in which gender is both foregrounded and neutralized. This isn’t lady stuff, it’s people stuff. It’s normal. It’s nothing and everything. It’s life.

The four actual best friends—Emily...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 2:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

A search of tacocat images on the web will find some adorable Halloween costumes for cats. My daughter wore a taco costume for humans one year.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:18pm mariano:

There's a great 70s disco version of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda, who also did about as Latin disco a cover of House of the Rising Sun as is possible in this universe.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:19pm herb.nyc:

nice"misunderstood" song; elvis c's was yucky (tho his memoir is muy good; i just returned the 2cd soundtrk bk to library. and shhhh, don't tell DAVE HILL - i'm gonna see if his new book is on the shelves there)
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:20pm βrian:

Interesting that "pasty" in a controlled appellation in the UK. On our side of the pond, we run wild with the concept.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 2:20pm Liz Berg:

Thanks for the tips, Mariano, I need to check out those covers!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:24pm JakeGould:

Cornish Pasties? One of the things I miss from living in the midwest. That and the really great street Vietnamese food one could score as well. What do we really have in NYC as far as street food goes? Just tons of Halal carts? Feh.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:26pm βrian:

"Hey, you got Vietnamese food on my pasty ..."
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:26pm mariano:

Always happy to oblige!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:26pm JakeGould:

@βrian: Uggh. That sounds vile. One for lunch. The other for dinner. That’s it.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:30pm mariano:

@JakeGould: lots of different types of food carts here in my experience, though there is a lot of mediocre gyro meat over rice type stuff. You can do a search by cuisine here: nyctruckfood.com...
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:31pm mariano:

Sorry, this link seems a bit more comprehensive: roaminghunger.com...
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:31pm βrian:

I dunno. Some of that slightly sweet salty mì căn with chilies, wrapped in a pasty. I'd go there.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:32pm JakeGould:

@mariano: I know there are a few decent alternatives, but they are not commonplace. That’s my gripe. The most common street carts in NYC nowadays are halal carts serving the same old same old or breakfast coffee and pastry carts. If you are lucky enough to work in Manhattan near a decent food cart, that is an exception to the rule.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:34pm JakeGould:

No idea why taco carts aren’t as common as halal carts in NYC.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:34pm just dc pat or dcp-your choice:

I know Ike has a ton to say about this subject.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:35pm markreichard:

These Horse Lords fellows are rather frantic, aren't they? I have a hunch one or more of them might be on the spectrum.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:35pm βrian:

Hella nice twangy guitar, Liz!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:35pm Dr. Goot:

Yeah, the Horse Lords sound pretty cool.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:35pm Cecile:

the best commercial pasties in the UP are at Lowry's in Ishpeming, MI.
The best pasties period are made by my mother-in-law, but I did write down how she made them...Good commercial pasties in the Twin Cities are at Lund's. Only problem is that the meat is ground a little too fine.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:36pm Cecile:

More Middle Eastern immigrants. Mexican migration to NYC is a newer thing, I'm told.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:37pm mariano:

Depends where you go: Red Hook has lots of taco carts, Jackson Heights too, a couple in Park Slope that I know of, as well as uptown around Morningside Heights, and of course Sunset Park. It's true that the halal carts are more widespread, but it seems like there are more options than even just a couple of years ago.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:37pm Cecile:

now I want a taco.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:38pm JakeGould:

@mariano: I lived in Boerum Hill for years… Just Halal carts and then one great empanada guy who is still there. But for years. Now I live in Bay Ridge and it’s just tons of Halal carts and absolutely 100% nothing else.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:39pm mariano:

Anyway, not to be unduly argumentative: I'm not a big fan of the run-of-the-mill halal carts or the pre-buttered untoasted bagels either!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:39pm markreichard:

I really like that "Moment with Kathleen" dude. I'm intrigued now and wish to know more about their relationship.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:40pm βrian:

If Lowry's wants to get ahead of the curve, they'll need to start offering a kimchee pasty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 2:40pm SeanG:

Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:40pm Cecile:

I found this grocery store that's open until 3 that has great middle eastern takeout. I had a hummus wrap that knocked my socks off. Of course, the name of the place is Santana Foods.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 2:40pm chris:

this is dope. great set, Liz! really digging.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:41pm mariano:

@Jake: Well yeah, Bay Ridge, big Middle Eastern 'hood. I'm in Greenwood Heights, not a lot of trucks, but lots of amazing and amazingly cheap Mexican food. This Mykki Blanco is amazing too!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:41pm Cecile:

Brian, I will blow up Lowry's myself before I let that happen. I had some pretty disgusting pasties from Potter's in Mpls that made me sad.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:42pm βrian:

I rather like kimchee ...
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:42pm JakeGould:

@mariano: Anyway, just want to point out you took my comments way too seriously and incorrectly. 100% not vietnamese carts commonplace in NYC nor Cornish Pasty carts and that’s that. The end. Fin.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:43pm Cecile:

I love kimchee, but someone will have to sell me very hard on that in a pasty.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:44pm JakeGould:

@Cecile: Kimchi Taco Truck—and grill—is pretty amazing!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:44pm mariano:

@JakeGould: that sounds about like me, sorry ;)
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:46pm Cecile:

I can understand Asian fusion tacos. But not so much Asian fusion pasties.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:46pm JakeGould:

@Cecile: Stop.

$10 to see Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, and NWA? Remarkable. What a group, even if NWA didn't perform!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:49pm JakeGould:

Can I form a “Wok and Roll Hall of Fame?” I mean, nobody cares and I can get some asian fusion mixed in with rock acts on respirators.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:50pm Cecile:

Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:50pm JakeGould:

For $10 you can get a small dish, an egg/spring roll and get to get your picture taken with a slowly decaying rock star.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:51pm βrian:

Well, how about something Mediterranean, Cecile? Spinach and feta. Some softened dried tomatoes, fresh rosemary ...
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:52pm JakeGould:

On special days Bun E. Carlos will be available to serve nice duck bao buns and signs autographs. Three duck baos with Bun E. Carlos for $10. WHAT A BARGAIN!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:52pm Cecile:

I think a pasty filled with those lemony Greek potatoes and some lamb could be great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/12/16 2:53pm rsj:

Liz you're awesome!

what's the angle on kimchi in the pasty?
how could the pasty stay in place?
is it a different kind of pasty?
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:53pm Cecile:

You could have him also serve the Vietnamese bun salad. So it could be Bun Bun Carlos Day

Kimchee in place of any meat. You'd still need the potatoes, turnip, etc.

Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:56pm Cheri Pi:

It's basically a viking samosa.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:57pm mariano:

Except a lot of kimchi has fermented shrimp or other seafood in it... kind of like miso, which a lot of people assume to be vegetarian, but which has dried bonito flakes.
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:57pm βrian:

Ketchup??? Heaven save us!
Avatar Tue. 4/12/16 2:57pm JakeGould:

@CheriPi: If I Samosa was like the size of a small 6" pizza folded in half and filled with stuff.
