David Ellenbogen, producer of the podcast NYC Radio Live and veteran of WKCR as well as Radio Univers in Ghana,
shares choice selections from his bountiful archive of world music concert recordings.
Recently David has been very active as one of the lead members of the Brooklyn Raga Massive Collective (BRM)
and we’ll feature many BRM recordings.

We have several pairs of tickets available for this concert:

Makam New York presents Mediterranean Crossings: Ahmet Erdoğdular and his ensemble with special guests from Greece Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma. 8 pm. (This annual concert is held in conjunction with Makam New York’s annual Turkish Music Institute vocal, instrumental and composition / orchestration workshops, April 1-5.)

Makam New York is led by Ahmet Erdoğdular, a brilliant Turkish vocalist who has dedicated himself to preserving and promoting the classical singing style of the Ottoman Turkish musical tradition. Based in New York and Istanbul, Ahmet devotes his time to performing and teaching Turkish classical music. In addition to singing, Ahmet plays tambur, oud and percussion. He’s released several cds.

Heya Rob and friends. Just finished mowing the lawn. Or cutting the grass, depending on where you live.
Avatar    Sat. 3/26/16 6:24pm Rob W:

Carmichael, you're a better man than I am - I'm not much good at either! Fortunately our landlord mows the lawn (as we say in the Garden State)!

The best thing about apartment living is that you don't have to mow the bleeding bloody blasted lawn.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/26/16 7:59pm coelacanth:

forgive me please; i came in late and i didn't catch where this gnawa music is from.
i have an album of gnawa music of marrakesh that sounds a bit different. (but maybe it's just the particular recordings.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 3/26/16 8:01pm coelacanth:

...i guess i mean where the "style" is from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 3/26/16 8:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Alabama: Written by Coltrane about a church bombing that killed little African-American girls - & correlating directly to Martin King's eulogy for them. I think Trane would love the International flavor on this version...
Avatar Sat. 3/26/16 8:07pm northguineahills:

Wow! This is amazing.

If you listen to the original sax lines, Coltrane emulated King's eulogy, as Rev Rabbit inferred.
Avatar    Sat. 3/26/16 8:10pm Rob W:

Very interesting, thanks RR and ngh.
  Sat. 3/26/16 8:29pm Robyn:
