Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Finally watched the I'm Not in Love making of video. So neat. Thanks for the recommendation.
Avatar Fri. 2/19/16 11:38am Alex In Illinois:

Yes, I watched it too after Uncle Michael's recommendation. It is one of things that can be done more easily these days with digitized sound, sampling and editing, but to do it analog is impressive.
Avatar Fri. 2/19/16 11:42am chromaphone:

They did so many interesting things. No drums but the drummer played the kick drum on the Moog!

somebody was looking for "elvis" type props for a window display or something and they asked for a double neck guitar...I tried telling them that when you think Elvis, you don't think double neck guitar and vice versa, but she insisted. I looked it up and he had one in a movie once, so what do I know, but still...not the iconic image that everyone thinks of.

It's become common to see "Baby It's Cold Outside" derided as a creepy ode to date rape. Does anyone join me in thinking that's going a wee bit overboard?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/19/16 2:26pm Uncle Michael:

Well, seduction isn't doing too well as a concept, is it?

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/19/16 2:28pm Uncle Michael:

excellent!
Avatar Fri. 2/19/16 2:30pm Lane Gray:

I'm with you, Parq. Pleading is a legitimate, but usually unsuccessful, seduction technique.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/19/16 2:30pm doctorjazz:

Seems a bit much to consider "Baby It's Cold Outside" as a date rape opener...that's the kind of thing that gets the Republican PC crew going...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/19/16 2:30pm Parq:

Lane, Mazel Tov, whatever that means. Hope the grandbaby is okay during the flight.
Avatar Fri. 2/19/16 2:31pm Lane Gray:

Wait. Wasn't there a line about "what's in this drink?"?
That's crossing the line into Cosbyland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/19/16 2:31pm Parq:

Doc, my point exactly. That kind of humorless, earnest take-no-prisoners approach to progressive ideas is what's made it easy for the right to use PC as code for "racism, sexism and homophobia are okay."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/19/16 2:33pm Uncle Michael:

Back when that was written, the answer would be "a whole lot of liquor."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/19/16 2:33pm Parq:

Lane, everybody says that. I disagree. It's simply "how much vodka did you put into this?" I don't think that roofies or mickies were what Loesser had in mind at all.

Kris...I owe you, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 2/19/16 2:43pm Uncle Michael:

Kris programmed the soul set...and then I played all the songs in the wrong order.
  Fri. 2/19/16 2:43pm Kris Holmes:

man, you aren't the only one, i played the rimshots out here a couple months ago, the other DJ was "whoa what's this?" & then I stopped in last week & heard him playing it. it's all gouda.

also i love how sunny messes his lines up on that track, should i take you home/should i telephone & one time he gets them the wrong way round, classic.

Lap steel not pedal, right Lane?
Avatar Fri. 2/19/16 2:47pm Lane Gray:

Lap steel, not pedal. Jerry owned the only non-pedal Sho-Bud ever made. Double neck, seven strings
Avatar Fri. 2/19/16 2:47pm Lane Gray:

Indeed Saul Goode

It's just before three AM on the Riau Islands. If anyone there is awake, I'm sure they agree that this was another fine Uncle Michael show. Good weekend and week, all.
