Avatar    Wed. 2/10/16 12:29pm kumar:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 12:29pm JtotheK:

good morning all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 12:32pm Cliff:

Never knew Maurice White drummed on Summertime, that's awesome
  Wed. 2/10/16 12:33pm djsheilab:

The best version of "Summertime" hands down!!! So happy to hear this. Thanks Duane!
  Wed. 2/10/16 12:34pm Slaboch:

killer show!
  Wed. 2/10/16 12:35pm djsheilab:

And this is a slightly different version from the 45. More feisty!
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 12:37pm Polk Biggins:

Hey ho all...digging the show, Duane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 12:37pm JtotheK:

@djsheilab -- yep, i've heard that version of summertime before, too ... not sure if it's from an LP or comp... -- but i'm in the "I prefer the 45" camp. Drums feel louder...perhaps it's in my head...but also the 45 seems a bit faster, though maybe I pitch it up. *shoulder shrug*
Avatar    Wed. 2/10/16 12:39pm Eli:

Wonderful songs today, D.

Enjoying a roast beef and avocado sandwich while listening to this (better than using mayo!)
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 12:50pm Polk Biggins:

Thinking of how much I love The Elements...the song 'Serpentine Fire' is my jam. So many great, great tracks. Oof. Maurice! What a legend.

  Wed. 2/10/16 12:58pm paula pc:

as we get to the 70s, any chance of something from the incandescent Sweetback soundtrack? And such a gorgeous tribute...thank you, Duane...
  Wed. 2/10/16 12:59pm Ari:

Really appreciating the music history rundown...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 1:00pm Cliff:

Didn't even catch that. Much gratitude to Maurice White!

Great bio on Maurice White. Especially loving the real, off the cuff from the heart style of it.

Amazed that he do soooo much that I never heard about.
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:03pm alanr:

Geez. I thought I knew a lot about the AACM, but this Maurice White connection is quite a revelation! Thanks for sharing. (listening now from Mexico City)
Avatar    Wed. 2/10/16 1:04pm kumar:

Crazu. I never would have guessed there was a connection between AACM and Earth, Wind, and Fire.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 1:11pm Mike East:

recently had to come up with some gear to replicate the EWF video for "September" for a tv production. Really enjoyed watching it (great costumes, they look like they're having so much fun. Maurice White is electric). All these years I had no idea what they were saying in the chorus...turns out its just Ba-di-ya, which I assume are just nonsense rhythm syllables. Not far from what I had been singing to cover the fact that I didn't know what they were saying.

Long story short...there may be a TV show coming up that involves Earth Wind and Fire as characters
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:13pm robin:

Duane, for a good, 2015 k-pop take on les fleur, ck out lim kim's awoo. Iz gud.
  Wed. 2/10/16 1:13pm robyn:

Sweetback is an awesome movie. Come on, feet!

Avatar    Wed. 2/10/16 1:16pm Eli:

I didn't know about so much of this. Duane taking us to school today!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 1:19pm chris:

encouraging news, Mike East!
  Wed. 2/10/16 1:21pm paula pc:

@robyn - exactly
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 1:22pm JtotheK:

i like Diamond D's sample of Bad Tune, for the Feel the Vibe track.
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:25pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

Wow, this is some seriously freaky stuff. I had no idea EW&F made music this far out! Wonderful, thank you Duane : )
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:26pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

What are the best EW&F years to check out?
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:29pm Duane:

if you like this stuff, check out the first three EWF albums (71-74)
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:29pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

(My guess would be '71-'74, which would apply for almost all artists who were active during those years, but correct me if i'm wrong...)
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:29pm βrian:

Now this is more like the EWF I know — a little cheesy. It's great to have heard so much new (to me) and excellent material.
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:31pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

@βrian Exactly. I'd only heard the cheese before.
  Wed. 2/10/16 1:33pm SeanG:

i like cheese
  Wed. 2/10/16 1:36pm paula pc:

near-same 70s to 80s arc as Kool and the Gang, and I love both groups all through the 80s too...and yes David Foster wrote After The Love Has Gone and that's loveable too
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 1:39pm Cliff:

I like cheese and I like funk, but I don't like funky cheese
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 1:39pm JtotheK:

The self titled EWF album and the second EWF album (for WB) can be found on the vinyl comp 'Another Time'. The self titled LP used to be hard to find, not sure if that is still the case...
Avatar Wed. 2/10/16 1:40pm βrian:

The question is, is it commodity cheese, or artisanal cheese?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 1:41pm Cliff:

Depends....was the artisanal cheese made by some funky (as in unshowered) neckbeard?
  Wed. 2/10/16 1:43pm Polyus:

I just came across Another Time for the first time last week - was wondering what that was. The person browsing to my right grabbed it, so didn't get to look at the tracks.
  Wed. 2/10/16 1:45pm Asparagus:

MONSTER HEAT
Avatar    Wed. 2/10/16 1:51pm PKNY:

'Another Time' is definitely a lot easier to come by in the field than actual copies of the 1st two EWF records.

Ooh, this is hott!
Avatar    Wed. 2/10/16 2:25pm Nick S.:

In '94 I moved and started hanging out with a group of musicians in my new town (I was a drummer). One afternoon, I was dropping off this one guy and when we got to the parking lot of his squalid apartment building 'Shining Star' came on the radio. Of course, I cranked that shit to the max and jammed out like I always did. When the song was over I turned down the radio and looked at him, expecting him to be silent and removed as he was about most of what I was into and he said, "What the fuck was that?" He was a kid at the time. It blew him away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 2:28pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 2:33pm Mike East:

These songs are so overplayed on commercial radio, but they are still so fucking good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 2:33pm dale:

this is some of the best produced music from the 70s
  Wed. 2/10/16 2:34pm paula pc:

@ mike east -- yes - hearing them in their context with Duane is a whole other experience
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 2/10/16 2:34pm Goyim in the AM:
