Hello Tony! I should be able to listen live today at least for 2 hrs. Excited enough to comment early.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 11:59am Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Mayuko! Great to see you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/9/16 12:00pm JtotheK:

hello everyone.
  Tue. 2/9/16 12:00pm Dean:

Checking in early before running for an hour or so. (Didja see the new Ithkuil prog to which I directed your attention?)

Hola hey hello, JtotheK, Dean, Uncle Michael, & βrian!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:04pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Just saw your message. I will bask in Ithkuil prog post-show....
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:04pm V Priceless:

Hey TC and gang!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:05pm Tony Coulter:

Talking of prog: the first hour or so of today's show will mostly be experimental type stuff, but after that there will be lots of prog (and psych).
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:05pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, V Priceless!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

RE Juraj Pospíšil: Thank god for cut-and-paste.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/9/16 12:16pm Carmichael:

Heya Tony and proggers-to-be.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:17pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, Carmichael!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

As you will have noticed, this Wishart piece has several l-o-n-g pauses. Do not panic, the Communication Grid is not under attack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 2/9/16 12:20pm Cecile:

hello hello hello
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:21pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Hey Hey! It's Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 2/9/16 12:22pm Cecile:

how's it going?
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:23pm Tony Coulter:

It's going ... somewhere.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:28pm Tony Coulter:

I'm feeling all up-to-date and with-it, what with the two 2016 releases I've already played today.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:37pm Rich in Washington:

what a glorious racket. This is right up my alley!
Hello, Mr. Coulter!
Hellooo, fellow Coulterites!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

Halloo, Mr. Rich!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:39pm Tony Coulter:

All alleys need a bit of a racket from time to time.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:46pm Tony Coulter:

The discogs bio for Martin Burlas (on now) is rather odd: "His last works are mostly based on combination of easy listening of the 60’s tradition with electronic minimalism and seems to be rather emotionally soft. Not very expressive means are used in his works." I'm guessing he wrote it himself.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:51pm northguineahills:

Typical Slovakian... (I dig it)
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 12:52pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, NGH!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:00pm Tony Coulter:

A now for some typical Wazooians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/9/16 1:04pm Carmichael:

Never heard of these guys. A Detroit band from 1970.

*Robert "Rocky" Dipasquale (Aka Bocky) - Vocals, Percussion
*Jim Finnan - Keyboards, Trumpet
*John Fraga - Bass
*George (Konstantine) Katsakis - Sax, Vocals
*Felix Mcdaniel - Guitar, Vocals
*Vince Scalabrino - Drums, Vocals
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:10pm Tony Coulter:

It's quite a good album. The cover kind of makes it look like a Mothers of Invention record -- and, in fact, there are some parallels. www.discogs.com...

Had the original years ago, but stupidly sold it.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

It really is amazing how many Magma-inspired bands there are -- dozens, at least.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:21pm Rich in Washington:

Magma's coming to town again, I see.
  Tue. 2/9/16 1:21pm MrFab:

Wassup, y'all!

Yeah, there's a self-identified 'zeuhl' band here in LA - but they're only a duo. Doesn't the definition demand a vocal choir?
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

Yep -- in March. I'm definitely going -- they were great last time.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

Here's that prog I promised you all.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:23pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Fab! Don't need a vocal choir to be a zeuhl band, I don't think. Definitely do need a throbbing bass, though....
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:25pm V Priceless:

kinda Be Bop Deluxy vibe going on - cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/9/16 1:27pm Nardo:

It's a proggy day in drummer some town. Nice.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:28pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, Nardo!
Avatar    Tue. 2/9/16 1:28pm Jeff Golick:

With a 75% chance of psych showers. Hey, Tony, other drummers.

I do not recognize today's artwork. Who/what is that?
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:31pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Jeff!

Today's playlist art is by Belgian collage artist Sammy Slabbinck. Have no idea who the woman is....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 2/9/16 1:37pm Cecile:

very beefheartian
  Tue. 2/9/16 1:41pm MrFab:

Speaking of psych, I'm always on the lookout for Bonzo-esque nonsense from the hippie era. individual tracks, as I don't expect too many other entire bands devoted to such silliness. Any ideas, Tony (or anyone)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 2/9/16 1:43pm Cecile:

Hampton Grease band may have what you are looking for MrFab
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/9/16 1:43pm Carmichael:

He he ... Hampton is barely controlled musical anarchy.
  Tue. 2/9/16 1:44pm MrFab:

yes, I've known about 'em for a while and for some reason have never gotten around to checking 'em out. They got compared to Beefheart, always a plus in my book.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:46pm Tony Coulter:

@ MrFab: Your probably know 'em already, but: Scaffold fit the bill: www.discogs.com...

Also Grimms: www.discogs.com...

Plus, there's Stackridge: www.discogs.com...
  Tue. 2/9/16 1:52pm MrFab:

I do indeed know 'em Tony, but thanks! you are def on my wavelength there.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:59pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

VG checking in - ready to smash up a few things!

Mr Fab - Early Mothers of Invention albums fit the bill of being Bonzos like! - prune juice for everyone!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 1:59pm Tony Coulter:

Morgan (on now) was led by Morgan Fisher ... of Hybrid Kids fame .. and of Mott the Hoople. Talk about a varied resume!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:00pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, VANDALISM GENERATOR!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:01pm Rich in Washington:

I think Fisher became a Sanyasin and did New Agey music for a spell, to fill out his resume even further.
Not sure what he's doing now. I sure love his stuff, esp. Hybrid Kidz, his Miniatures compilations, etc.
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:02pm Dean:

I often confuse Morgan Fisher with Matthew Fisher. I would have sworn Matthew also lead a proggy eponymous group post-Procol Harum.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:04pm Tony Coulter:

@ MrFab: Here's a tasty Polish Bonzoid outfit: rateyourmusic.com...
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:04pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

Also Mr Fab - I would check out -
Family - Music in a Dolls House;
July - 1st album - a still unknown psyche classic with a few Bonzo like touches here and there.
Audience - 2nd and 3rd album - a bit heavier than the Bonzos but some whimsical inventive stuff!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:05pm Tony Coulter:

These guys too (also Polish): rateyourmusic.com...
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:06pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

Mr Fab - the first two Soft Machine albums (before they went all Miles runs the voodoo down) are chock full of whimsical psyche and funny wordplay!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:08pm Tony Coulter:

Those two Polish outfits are Bonzoid in that they wackify and surrealicize trad jazz.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:10pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

Tony - Blue men sing the whites!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:11pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

not too many tongue in cheek bands around - how about the Rezillos from the punk era!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:12pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

Caravan's shorter songs on the 1st 3 albums are bonzoid!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:13pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

this is getting a bit soft machine third!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:14pm Tony Coulter:

Also a bit Tony Williams/ Larry Young-esque. But, strangely, it's Santana!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:16pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

do you have the original Lotus album with all the bits and pieces weird art work?
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:16pm MrFab:

Thanks guys, did not know that stuff. *puts on miners helmet* Time to start digging. And diggin'.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:16pm Tony Coulter:

@ VANDALISM GENERATOR: Nope -- only have that one on CD.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:18pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

been at the Goblin again - been watching the 4k restored Deep Red film - PROFONDO ROSSO!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:22pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

Mr Fab - there is an album called - The songs the Bonzos taught us - which has all songs and sources and influences the Bonzos got from 1920 and 30s music hall.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:25pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

sound like a bunch of red necks!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:26pm Tony Coulter:

Studnecks
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:27pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

sweet home Alabama - yee all!
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:28pm Dean:

Stud was basically a recombination of Dust.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:29pm Tony Coulter:

Better than Tuds, I guess.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:29pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

or duts!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:33pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

Mr Fab: The two Hatfield and The North albums also have a touch of that early Softs ridiculousness and whimsy.

Hi Tony! As always, wondering "where does he find all this stuff?"!
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:34pm MrFab:

"Songs the Bonzos Taught Us" is indeed wonderfully wonderful. Actually, these Studs are pretty silly they own selves.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:34pm VANDALISM GENERATOR:

sorry Mr Fab - just remembered Tea and Sympathy - An Asylum for the musically insane is very Bonzoid!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:34pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Elf!
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:38pm Dean:

Well, shoot, early Gong.
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:39pm MrFab:

Amazing how wacky Brits were in those days. What happened to 'em? how'd they go from Bonzos to Coldplay?
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

Thatcher?
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:41pm Dean:

No. I blame Steely Dan.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:41pm Rich in Washington:

I've been listening to that Songs the Bonzos Taught Us album quite a bit lately.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:43pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

I heard a Gong track I'd somehow never heard before the other day. Chris M played "Ooby-Scooby Doomsday or The D-day DJ's Got the D.D.T. Blues" (an outtake from the Angels Egg sessions) on his show. Very silly indeed!

I'd say there's still plenty of Bonzoid ridiculousness being produced over here, but it's all *very* underground, unlikely to get as far as the Superbowl halftime show! When John Peel was alive, he always seemed to find and celebrate that stuff (Half Man Half Biscuit and I Ludicrous come to mind). He's missed...
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:46pm Rich in Washington:

2nd Half Man Half Biscuit! I think they're brilliant. Another group I quite like, in a gentler, loony way, Jazz Butcher (Conspiracy, et al).
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:47pm Dean:

The Beatles? "You Know My Name..."
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:47pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

Quite topically, someone just this moment sent me this link to a clip about Vermin Supreme, the neo-dadaist US presidential candidate: newsy.com/56839 He's the American answer to our Screaming Lord Such (who made some albums back in the day) of the Monster Raving Loony Party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/9/16 2:49pm Uncle Michael:

Love that Sopwith Camel track and that Stud was fantastic!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:50pm Tony Coulter:

Glad you liked 'em, Uncle M!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:52pm Tony Coulter:

@ Canterbury wood-elf: I've always liked Vermin's boot hat. Quite stylish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/9/16 2:56pm JtotheK:

enjoyed the show, thanks Tony!
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 2:57pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Tony It's "Pen-dragon". King Arthur's dad!
Avatar    Tue. 2/9/16 2:57pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Tony! Remind me to not have any meetings on Tuesday afternoons grrr.
  Tue. 2/9/16 2:57pm MrFab:

Thanks again Tony (think it's pronounced 'PenDRAGon,' btw) and greatly appreciate the tips everyone, can't wait to run 'em all down.
Avatar Tue. 2/9/16 3:01pm Tony Coulter:

See you next time, everyone!
