Hi all. Digging the old movie stuff. Sorry I missed Petra. I like her movie stuff a lot. I probably should just break down and buy the album.

@ListenerJames: sounds like John Waters to me but I can't think of what movie it would be. Good afternoon Charlie and fellow Ne'er-do-things.

Some shit about Alan Rickman, eh? Man, i dug his work -- the finest movie actor of our time, IMO, with apologies to Ford and Hanks. Read this -- it says it all.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Brian in UK:

Just been through Brixton saw the Bowie wall and all the flowers/tributes, very moving. Constant stream of people passing by.

Eddie Grant wrote a song called Electric Avenue which is just round the corner from the wall where the street market is.
Avatar 12:59pm dcp:

is it a sin to like the Equals more than Bowie?? Man. I feel stupid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Charlie:

Brian -- there's a real Electric Avenue?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Charlie:

dcp -- we can like the Equals and Bowie too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Webhamster Henry:

Yeah Jim Copp's "Adult" material!

Valley of the Dolls coming up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 1:06pm dcp:

alright Brian, what is acky fish? and do people actually rock down to Electric Avenue?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Brian in UK:

@dcp The market is on Electric Avenue. You will hear plenty of reggae sounds.

If I send this link it will make life easier.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm listener james from westwood:

I've heard (possibly apocryphal) that Liz Taylor kept photographers at the Monty Clift crash scene from successfully taking, much less publishing, any pix, by telling them she'd guarantee they'd never work again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm melinda:

hi everyone! Bummed to have missed the 6ths and muppets! Pleased to know there really is an Electric Avenue though.
Avatar 1:17pm ndbob:

Heya Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

I wish "Electric Avenue" brought to mind acky fish and yams. As it is, it just conjures memories of painfully awkward teen dances.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Charlie:

Hi Melinda, thanks for dropping by.
Once at WFMU, I met a band who was playing on Joe Belock's show. I think they were from Sweden. They were *so* delighted to learn that there really is a Rockaway Beach!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm listener james from westwood:

Cue Jack Woltz's rant at Tom Hagen!
Avatar 1:19pm testingwithfire:

@listener James: wish stars and studios had the same power today. Liz was not to be messed with anyway, though,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm melinda:

hi Bob!

"I hope you like the lyrics, 'cuz you're GONNA HEAR 'EM" - Ethel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm melinda:

Until now I wouldn't have thought to associate Rockaway Beach with anything other than rocky coastline.
Avatar 1:27pm testingwithfire:

anyone see the movie of Elaine Strich's solo show in the early 2000s? She had a great Ethel Merman story to tell: apparently Ethel once left the Broadway stage, personally bounced a loud drunk, got back up on stage and the show went on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm listener james from westwood:

@Charlie, that is excellent re: the Swedes.

I envy my parents for seeing Merman live. They saw "Gypsy" thrice b/c of her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm doctorjazz:

Nice version, know Ridin' High from the Goodman, if I remember correctly, smoking track, but this is great to hear as well.
Avatar 1:29pm testingwithfire:

@listener James Green with envy. I went to a performance of Threepenny Opera a couple of months ago and sat next to a guy who'd seen Lotte Lenya perform in it on Broadway in the fifties
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Webhamster Henry:

I love this NASHVILLE scene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Uncle Michael:

So at the tribute, Elton did Space Oddity? How good might his Life On Mars have been?

He'd have nailed that keyboard line, I know that much!

I'm listening to this on the archives. Charlie, you are a wonder. Among other things you've included my favorite Roches song. I love this live version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQMwU3TrVE0 where Suzzy uses her relative height, stooping to convey the awkwardness of crawling back to your ex-boss.
